You have never seen someone who has never laughed sincerely and never made a joke…he will laugh in a bully way, ‘Ha ha, you look kinda fat, Joe’ (but he’ll never laugh at himself.) I never saw any humor in person. I also never saw him show any joy or understanding of music. And those two things are things that I connect with people very much on."

The White House Correspondents' dinner footage would also confirm that.

On top of that, isn't there a derth of any footage of him properly laughing ever been shown?

It's a bit worrying that Don is openly playing to the religious right "negation of the evangelical vote" in his election and posting a quote from a Rev'd on the theoretical removal of a president from office causing a civil war, talk inclined to herd-drive a people farther apart than they are now. What Mike Pence says and does in where-ever he visits for electioneering over the next week or two will bear watching.

Worrying yes, unexpected no. It was the one major element missing from a total movement to the far right. Once religion becomes intertwined with government on top of everything else we have seen from the Trump administration, the US is in for some very very dark days

Will the alienate some of his base? They are not all evangelists surely, some probably have bigoted views towards them (probably Trump himself if it suited him)

Does he not realise that the transcript of the call is out there for people to read?

There was a couple of instances showing genuineness during the 2016 campaign like the one below, far and few between though. Like you say, it was laughing at somebody else's expense.

Schiff didn't read the transcript during the hearing. He gave his own version of what was said on the call. He exaggerated statements and strayed fairly far away from some aspects of it. Not a big deal really but the Republicans are attacking him on it since there's not many other angles of attack.

    https://edition.cnn.com/2019/09/27/politics/fact-check-adam-schiff-trumps-ukraine-call/index.html

"...Schiff's remarks did make it easy for viewers to get confused. He did not make clear which words he was taking directly from Trump's comments in the rough transcript, which words were his own analysis, and which words were meant to be the comedic "parody" he later said he was intending.
At some points, Schiff's words strayed quite far from what the rough transcript showed Trump saying."

Agreed - stupid stuff from Schiff and uncharacteristic IMHO.

At this stage, I really cannot see how people can defend the latest tirade of madness. He is spiralling out of control and that is on the basis of one corroborated conversation. There are stories now of Kelly putting the loudspeaker on the phone on mute so as to remind Trump that certain information that he is divulging is confidential. What happens if the conversations with MBS or Putin are looked into. Trump has said enough publicly to warrant impeachment, but for some reason if he is caught on tape saying it, it becomes salacious and makes massive headlines. For example, we know Kushner offered to help MBS on a PR level after JK's killing, can you imagine the tape of Trump saying the same? Or perhaps a call with Putin wherein he acknowledged or even thanked him for the help provided and which he requested and welcomed?

People may have noticed that the anchors on Sunday had a much better handle on the surrogates sent out to support Trump. I strongly suspect it was because of the WH sending out talking points... to the Dems by mistake. That way, the anchors were ready for the nonsense "defence".

Have a look at this - excerpts below re Russian intelligence instructions to its operative for 2018 that mirrors many of the Sunday morning talk show talking points - note encouraging civil war.

Schiff did himself or his cause no favours tbh, no idea why they give easy ammo.

Agreed, but its not like the actual transcript isn't out there to read. You would think the whole thing is hearsay with the way he is carrying on.

Yeah bad move by Schiff when the actual transcript itself was bad enough. I can understand what he was trying to do but he did it badly and has left himself open to be attacked.

She's a former US secretary of state in case you haven't heard of her. She held office within those timelines. You should look her up a proper crook.

They gave it right back though, because Trump used the remarks as a reason to call for the arrest of a US Senator for treason.

It doesn't matter though. Your not dealing with rational or balanced people. You think his supporters will critically think about what he has said or done at this point? What they will do is latch on to any possible own goal and use it as a defence against the actual acts.

In other news, growth (GDP?) projected to be less than 2% in 2020. What was that Trump tweet about GDP and how easily it would hit 5% and help balance the budget in the presence of the 2018 tax cut?

About as accurate as his forecast that he would halve the deficit following his inauguration. How is that looking, oh fiscal conservative Republicans?

Mitch McConnell is quoted by NBC news as saying he'd have "no choice" but to hold a senate trial if trump was impeached by the house. Did Mitch not get the talking points on how to play this impeachment thing ?

I'd say the nihilistic part of Trump's mind is saying 'imagine the ratings of the trial'

We'll soon know if Don watches NBC news. I was looking at a completely different social topic today and came across this Fox News interview of President Trump by Maria Bartiromo from June this year. It makes for interesting viewing on his "shock jockey" attitude towards any topic put to him by the media, incl friendly networks.

Deficits don't matter if it's a GOP budget running them up. And, with an impeachment investigation in progress, possibly leading to articles of impeachment being voted on by the House, and then trial in the Senate, last I saw our pro-Trump types here, they were saying "we won the election" as their defense to all of this.

Interesting times indeed, but it feels like its best to check in on it no more than once a week as too much is swirling and the media's just going nuts on all sides.

Well, when you open your big mouth...

Plus he's already admitted that he wasn't acting as Trump's attorney, so no attorney client privilege

If I was Trump, the very first thing I'd do is stop Rudy going on television. No more media appearances. He'll either land himself or Trump (or likely both) behind bars if he continues like he is.

Wow. Even if you were on the fence about the impeachment process, who cant get behind a process that might see Giuliani jailed for perjury?

Trump and his team is seriously rattled over this. I don't think anything will actually come of it, not because it shouldn't but because the GOP is simply too deep into this and there is no way out other than to brazen it out.

But each time Trump opens his mouth he opens another can of worms. And this Ukraine thing is far more simply for the average person to understand that the complicated Russia story.

Trump asks Ukraine for help to get dirt on Biden. Not his son, not a meeting about adoption, not some lawyer or possible third party. Chris Wallace summed it up on Fox News interview with Stephen Millar. Why was the POTUS, with access to CIA, FBI, State department and lots of other official channels, sending his mate over and threatening to withhold funds from the newly elected President of Ukraine when diplomats could have done it if deemed necessary for the US? Millar, of course had no answer because it very clearly looks like Trump was doing it for his own benefit.

People can understand that far easier.
