Reuters has an interesting report on some collateral damage from Trumps call with Zelensky: An ongoing investigation into Manafort's activities in Ukraine has been effectively buried under a torrent of new bureaucracy and changed leadership.

    Bait and switch?

They won't get the votes in the senate barring something absolutely incredible which I don't think is going to come.

The republicans will hand wring and say that ok they don't condone or agree with X y and z but that as it's so close to an election they should let the American public decide at the ballot box, that will be the real trial and so on and so on...

It will get all the evidence out very publicly, it will force trump to defend/attack the impeachment proceeding more than focus on the re election campaign and it will shrink his potential voter pool with each revelation.

Make no mistake, the only way he is leaving office is by being voted out in 2020 though.

I don't yet get the sense that the shakeup in the Ukranian prosecutor's service is related to the Trump "Quid Pro Quo" allegations. I think that Zelinskyy's new regime may be trying to clean house in a part of the Ukranian Justice System that has been judged for over a decade as being patently corrupt. In any such house- cleaning, some things will naturally fall between stools and frankly, I reckon Ukraine has an awful lot more investigative need in relation to ongoing internal corruption and the undermining of its existence internally, than any need to further investigations for U.S. political advantage whether its for Democrat or Republican benefit.

I could be totally wrong, but I am not yet ready to judge any internal Ukranian action(s) as a Quid related to the US Quo...

It will be such a duality too:

In the Senate: “we can’t convict him only the American voters can in November”

Senators on the campaign trail: “well he was acquitted”

Pretty sure idolising someone who had an affair with a porn star is not in the Bible.

    But that’s standard.

Seeing him trying to testify anywhere would be a hoot. Imagine him actually being forced to tell the truth for any period of time.

Just picture it.... Donnie at the table.. A thousand lawyers around him and him totally not listening to them, as the Hearing Room is assaulted by a thumping mix of stolen sounds from Prince, Neil Young, Twisted Sister, Steve Tyler, Pavarotti, Rihanna..... Until Schifty Pencil Neck Schiff (not sure how those pejoratives meld together) gavels in the meeting and calls the proceedings to order!

    It takes a while!

Roooodi is tearing his hair out 3 rows back and Gym Jordan, Devin Nunes, Louis Gohmert and Mark Meadows are arranged in a phalanx, waxing Trumpant and holding spears to fight off the crazed Dems, whose rallying cries for the protection and saviour of Democracy itself, are being held back ONLY by the strength and sheer brass neck of the Gaetz that had been erected by the Emperor of the East to protect the King from the baying, maddowing crowds!

Ouch!!! Just had a dream and fell out of bed!:eek::eek:

Especially as he'd surely have to testify under oath if he agreed to it. He's a completely different person when in a deposition.

It's why he'll never agree to appear before the committees, not even Senate-led ones. Same reason he wouldn't agree to an interview with Mueller.

The preventing him from a face to face interview with Mueller was a smart move by his legal team. Hiring Giulani considerably less so.

Just under 130k jobs figure for October, that's with 46k GM workers on strike, bringing it down.

    That's big.

Unemployment at a 50 year low.

How much of that is made up of people working multiple low paid jobs and barely being able to afford to live?

I'm very glad to see that the jobs figure for October beat Wall St estimates. And, if the accepted rule for years is that the sitting President gets credit for a good top-line jobs performance, then Fair Play, President Trump.

I'll leave it at that, but fair is fair!

I'll have to drill down, probably the same amount as in the last 15 years.

It doesn't change the fact it is a big number.

Add in the strong wage growth in Working Class communities, especially African American and Hispanic ones, who are benefiting disproportionately from the crack down on illegals, but then they were hardest hit by the surge in migration for the last 40 years.

The crowd in charge get the credit or blame whether deserved or not.

It's his show now at this stage.

    Deficit.

The U.S. is predicted to hit debt to GDP of 100% by 2034.

Hardly shocking by modern standards in the West.

All modern economies borrow too much, the Yanks only grace is low unemployment, decent Inflation and good growth, that combination makes them stand out from most large to medium global economies.

Ultimately global debt will be a problem, how long can the EU keep interest rates negative and creating money through QE. They are talking about buying corporate bonds now, basically large corporations will be able to borrow for minus rates with ECB support.

This crazy show is going for 20 years now, arguably 30.

Nope. By what percentage did the deficit increase in 2018? Then, by what percentage did that deficit increase in 2019?

And who campaigned to eliminate it in 8 years.

To be fair, he thought he could do that by using all that extra money he'd get by reversing the balance of trade.

But then he went and cut corporate taxes while going on a spending spree. I know he didn't mean it, it was just a mistake.

I'm sure the employment figures for his casinos were at 100%... until they weren't

Probably but the electorate will look at the economy.

They'll look at that and the ever increasing crazy show that is the Dems and enough will hold their nose and vote on the economy, God only knows what the Democrat plan is or if the varying factions can even agree on anything.

*Disclaimer had a few beers :)*

I guess one of the things that boggles me about Trump, and I'd imagine this applies to most people, how did this guy, become the guy we know today?

Everything is different, his voice, his demeanour, his manner, his looks, his speech, everything. The guy below you could actually respect as a President. Trump is some sort of enigma, everything about him.

I've never seen such unprofessional or childish official statements from the White House until this "Presidency" - it's a shame to see the US in such a dire state; but it's clearly what Russia wanted and it's paying off brilliantly for them.

If you’re looking for some light entertainment you should follow the official White House page on Facebook, they’re giving The Onion a run for its money these days.

I dread to think how much he will have conceded to Russia at the end of another four years in office. As the Democrats don't seem to have anyone who might defeat him (at the moment), I fear the world will have to endure another term of Trump crazy. :(
