I tried to watch that Stephen miller interview from yesterday on fox and got about three minutes into before it bailed out. What is wrong with the guy ?

It was a rough watch alright. The guy is soulless. .. the interviewer did a good job of showing him up as a pathetic apologist for Trump's racism. Indeed, isn't he the principal architect of that message to the predominantly white Base that they're desperate to keep energised. ...

So Trump said he could win a war in Afghanistan in a week but he might kill 10 million people. Does he just randomly say whatever thoughts float around in that addled brain of his?

If we wanted to fight a war in Afghanistan and win it, I could win that war in a week. But I don’t want to kill 10 million people. Afghanistan could be wiped off the face of the Earth. I don’t want to go that route.”

So, it's back to "My buttons bigger than yours!" Nuclear obliteration territory... the man's a lunatic to even suggest it!

In same blithering press meet, he claimed India had invited the US / Trump to mediate between India and Pakistan over Kashmir - needless to say New Delhi quickly stepped in to say, uh, no, we didn't.

Then, presumably, we should claim him a man of peace because he says he COULD wipe out a country, but won't. Sigh.

    But the economy!!

I suppose it's not technically war-mongering if you're only saying you could kill millions, but won't; it's sure as hell one demented interpretation of Teddy Roosevelt's "speak softly, and carry a big stick".

I swear Trump thinks he can run US foreign policy [*] as some glorified protection racket. Pay more for NATO, or else. Nice country you have, shame if someone nuked it...

[*] Wonder how the State Department is doing these days after the gutting at the hands of Tillerson; it's important to remember the diplomatic network that softened these blows no longer exists to the same extent...

They do speak like you. There is tons and tons of evidence which the consensuses on here have either read on here or other sources and came to the same conclusion. It might seem like an echo chamber to people ignoring or ignorant to the crimes/ineptitude of the current administration but there is no real honest way not to come to those conclusions. The Mueller report for example, which I guess you never read but I presume you think vindicates Trump off all crimes even though it clearly points out 10 cases of obstruction that if was anyone but the president, who end up in jail time. Or the mountain of evidence laid out in section 1 where his campaign team tried to gather information and favours from Russians at every opportunity. 11000 plus lies and every tweet/rally/press statement has to be re translated to mean something else

What is it that you like about him, that makes you support him?

Is it just the economy? Because whilst it is doing ok, it's nothing amazing and not too dissimilar to what Obama was doing.

He is continuing to increase spending, debt has shot up, failed in many of his promises (wall and infrastructure and Repeal and Replace)..

So given all the very negative aspects of both the man (racism, business dealings, lies) and the administration (massive turnover of staff, huge list of inditements), what is it that makes you support him?

Good tactic considering hes about to meet with Pakistan, a country who helped hide Bin Laden, either knowingly or just through incompetence.

I'm no Trump fan but the Nixon style "make them think you're crazy" does work with some countries.

What if other countries try the "make them think you're crazy " on us?

    Is that just as cool?

Putin's crowd threatening to march on Berlin and his nuclear threats.

Iran could make all sorts of unrealistic/realistic threats for all sorts of good or not so good reasons. (maybe they are crazy too ---they have the afterlife to fall back on after all)

Is MAD just so passe? A bit of brinkmanship is just what we need , So refreshing.

Its worked for America since the end of the Vietnam War. The only president who hasn't used it and wanted a war was Bush.

When has a sitting President ever publicly threatened, or just even wondered aloud as seemed to be the case here, nuking a country and killing 10s of millions on a whim?

Like I said, Roosevelt's 'big stick' rhetoric was underlining the concept of peaceful diplomacy through the passive threat of military might - but the key word there is "diplomacy". What Trump did is kinda adolescent posturing, but then he claimed once he knew more about ISIS than "The generals", so we're dealing with a practised spoofer.

Then to make up a claim that India sought him out for Kashmir peace talks? Now that IS dangerous; anyone with an ounce of geopolitical knowledge knows the violent history and continuing frigid relationship between all parties. That Trump just stomped in with a 'genius' suggestions shows what a thundering klutz he is.

You're OK with suggesting it is an option to kill 10 million people in another country? Is it OK for that country to make reciprocal threats on the US or its allies -or just its neighbours?

Maybe it will work for them (good tactic).

Couldn't be confused with state terrorism ,could it?

Well it certainly worked wonders for NK. KJU is getting the sort of praise and acceptance from the US that his father could only ever dream of.

Unfortunately for Trump, he does not have a controlled population and any 'craziness' is seen for what it is. Tough talk by a man that has shown time and again that he lacks the courage. (and I am thankful for that!)

Opposition leaders on Tuesday angrily demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarify his position in Parliament about President Donald Trump mediating India’s long-running dispute with Pakistan over Kashmir.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said in a statement in the upper house of Parliament that Modi made no such request to Trump as the U.S. president had claimed.

It has been India’s consistent position that all outstanding issues with Pakistan are discussed only bilaterally, Jaishankar said. “Any engagement with Pakistan would require an end to cross-border terrorism.”

On the one hand I can certainly believe that Trump simply made it up. He was trying to look big and important and simply lied. He has plenty of form.

On the other, it is quite possible that something was discussed. But like all these things, Trump has shown, yet again, that he cannot be trusted. One cannot talk to him about anything without the very real worry that he will let it slip.

In advance of tomorrow's testimony by Mueller, Barr has

    1) mischaracterized the findings of the report on multiple occasions
    2) refused to release the specially prepared synopsis prepared by Mueller's team
    3) delayed the release in order to allow Trump and Barr's common incorrect finding to percolate with the american public for 3 weeks
    4) blocked members of his team from testifying publicly
    5) written to Mueller telling him to stay within the confines of the report
    6) publicly disparaged the idea of him testifying at all

It is quite incredible that someone, who Chuck Rosenberg defended from the get go as a decent guy, has turned into this, to such a degree that even Rosenberg has now conceded that the general consensus on Barr is now correct.

Of course, but this is the frustration of the Trump Presidency: those would would cheer and clap with delight at all these "liberals" owned, either ignore or miss these real geopolitical consequences of just shooting ones mouth off like an idiot.

And frankly, at this stage I think there has to be an allowed degree of bluntness in this discussion because what Trump did was idiotic: he demonstrated a clear ignorance of a delicate political situation, in a part of the world barely holding it together, and caused problems in blurting out some desperate need to be the centre of attention. Alongside the Middle-East, Kashmir is as big a powderkeg, but here comes Donald Trump, real-estate magnate who knows all, to cause heart attacks in New Delhi.

Only an idiot would do this.

Thinking of taking the afternoon off tomorrow and watching the Mueller Show should be good fun...

I don't know how the GOP are going to play it.... they cant start trashing Muellers reputation can they:confused: I suppose they will go after his team saying that they are Democrats etc and totally biased. I also see them from the very start calling out procedural points and other points of order. I would imagine it will get very shouty from the start with this BS trying to slow down the time.

On the Dem side I am hoping there isn't too much grandstanding with senators and congressmen laying out big speachs. Simple questions yes and no answers. Mueller is that type of person also and will appreciate it.

I have a feeling if this goes well tomorrow we will see an impeachment call very soon. Nadler has already started saying that there is substantial evidence of high crimes, so tomorrow will be the nail on the coffin.

That saying, I have been so wrong a lot of times with Trump and the ability of the GOP to sink so low into the gutter for Trump that I am not very hopeful.

I think the Dems though have to start the impeachment process, even if it runs up against the GOP in the Senate and they support Trump, this can be used against them in the general election next November.

Every single Republican will mention the "oranges" of the investigation and how it was illegal to start with, including wire tapping and all the other made up GOP talking points. Some may even mention Bengazi for good measure. Not sure if anyone will belittle Mueller but they will definitely say he was forced into it by the 12 angry Dems. Don't imagine there will be silver bullets by the Dems but if they can get him to say if he wasn't president he would be in jail he might turn some heads. Spoiler alert: go onto Fox News main page after and during the event and you will "XYZ says Mueller was out of his depth" or "XYZ says Dems fail to get any dirt on Trump", where XYZ is a talking head like Conway or Shapiro. They won't actually report it like it is but won't say themselves they are biased. It is exactly what they did when the report first came out.

If Congress goes for impeachment it should telegraph how low expectations are of a conviction and put the blame on the Rep Senators who are enabling the behaviour of the President.

It should point out that impeachment is necessary to lay down an historical marker even if the chances of a conviction are so low.

If they don't open an impeachment enquiry, he will run on the fact that the Dems wouldn't, because they found nothing.

At some point in time, you have to stop worrying about what he will say and do the right thing.

They have to after Mueller. I guess they could go after the start of the investigation. However it has been several years since republicans were ever able to enter an argument about the president and actually defend him. They have consistently gone after the reputation of the person attacking him as opposed to the argument as they know what Trump is and that he can't be defended.

Capitalism generates wealth and uses this wealth To provide health, education and for those who cannot care for themselves shelter and food.

Socialism is the redistribution of wealth and power from the individual to the state.
No one can provide an example of a socialist country that did not fail
And please do not say Scandinavia is socialist they are not they just heavily regulate capitalism.
But that is fine for Norway with their resources the party is over for Sweden who are currently trying to dismantle their welfare state

Actually is the US, the vast majority of school funding is provided by the local town/city taxes, then some by the state. Federal funding overall isn't that much.

Trump tweets the 4 Congress Women should go back to their countries.
GOPer's have no problem with it.
MAGA crowd yells Send Her Back.
    Trump enjoys it.
Then he said maybe next time I'll say Stop.
    Then he backtracks.

You can't make this stuff up lol.

    And now this....
Right wing website falsely publishes an article that AOC said Soldiers are paid too much and a Louisiana police officer reposts it on FB with "This vile idiot needs a round … and I don’t mean the kind she used to serve.”

Now the police officer is fired.

I have serious concerns about violent (or even fatal) attacks on one of these four women - spurred on by Trump who would then be "shocked" if it happened.

Now the police officer is fired.

They also fired another Police Officer that liked the post - The "Angelo Varisco" shown in the screen-shot .

Whatever about an utterly ridiculous post on twitter , the real concern is that another disturbed individual like Cesar Sayoc will take this kind of thing further and actually take a shot at one of these women.

I mean we've already had this kind of thing happen.

He Wasn’t Seeking to Kill a Mob Boss. He Was Trying to Help Trump, His Lawyer Says.

This is the story of the guy arrested and charged with the murder of one of the heads of the Gambino Crime family. Initially it was assumed that it was a mob hit, but no , it was way weirder than that....

The guy that shot him was trying to arrest him because he was convinced that he was a leader of the "Deep State" and that he was going to be helping Trump by doing so..All based on the QAnon conspiracy theory guff.
