If Trump gets to implement the border measures which he wishes to, then it will be the best thing that happened to the region as it will take the cartels out. At the moment they make a fortune from drug trafficking and human trafficking. Mexico are doing much more now also and plan to do even more. Worth remember also that the less illegals come into America at the southern border, the better it is for those in low paying jobs given how illegals have been exploited my scurrilous employers for many many decades. A dent in that can only be a good thing. I think by 2024 Trump will have transformed the border immeasurably for the benefit of all Americans in one way or another.

Airports, beaches are still open, tunnels and ladders bypass the wall, sure you could even come through the checkpoints and just stay. The wall is just a massive massive waste of money. It may have some affect in some sections but everybody not invested in right wing talking points knows more staff and equipment is a more cost effective way to spend the money. Do you seriously think if there less immigrants, cleaners and fruit pickers etc, the jobs Americans won't do, will see a bump in their wage. Fantasy land stuff. Sure even Saint Donald has plenty of underpaid illegals working in his properties.

As for your nonsense about leftwing inciting virus in the bizarroland you live in, the vast vast majority of terror attacks in the US in the last 2 years have been Right wing extremists. If any of them were Islamic attacks there would be screaming bloody murder from conservatives and action would be taken. Insane Trump supporter with a gun it is okay because he was incited by people looking for tolerance and inclusion.

Just in case there's any doubt, here's Trump having a laugh with a guy at one of his rallies who suggested shooting migrants. Of course there were mass killings before him, but the idea that all the hate he spews can't incite those willing to pull the trigger is nonsense. He's the president - people look up to him.

Pretty sure that a certain Trump fan here, will be along telling us, that „that‘s just how Trump is - having a laugh and joking with people at his rally‘s“, „nothing to do with Trumps real thoughts“! Of course, any decent person would NOT joke about this matter and be highly alarmed about rhetoric like that, but Trump fans are too far down the rabbit hole.

Yeah, 'many people' with an agenda. Division was sown alright, but it was in the previous eight years, on that I agree with Shapiro.

He doesn't encourage hatred and his policies benefit the very minorities the left try so hard to portray him as having no time for.

The lie that never stops. Not sure how many times this has to be said but at no stage has Trump ever referred to extremists as "fine people". In fact, he went out of his way to make that clear (given he knows how the leftist media operate). Here are the relative portions of what he said on that day:

He also made it clear how he feels about racism and bigotry here the next day (given that the media went and reported that he had called white supremacists 'fine people'):

At this point, I'm not going to continue to give your comments any respect.

It's dissappointing that someone could spend so long using their intelligence to debate others but not use it take a step back and think about their own position on things.

You'll take any shread of evidence and use it to back up a pre-defined position on things.

Now you're at the point where you're denying that perhaps the most anti-immigrant leader a developed Western country has had in living memory has any impact on anti-immigrant sentiment in that country.

You're an example of why critical thinking should be taught in schools IMO.

Be specific. Who is trying to return us to the days of the gas chambers?

Well, that's not hard given Trump has effectively all but wiped them out. Bit to go but they are a shadow of what they were in 2015/16.
ISIS are in no way wiped out, despite what trump claims. Just yesterday they attacked Sinjar to coincide with the 5th anniversary of the Yazidi genocide

This is why Trump's idiotic remarks on Kashmir - that required the Indian government to step in - were so colossally hamfisted and ignorant. I'm not for one second blaming him for this development, but it's a stern reminder that he mouthed off about an area still on the precipice of another India-Pakistan war.

The irony being that a savvy diplomat might indeed be useful as an honest broker between the two, yet the sitting President prefers to dissemble and waffle about geopolitics he has no clue over.

I see Don is saying that mental illness is the cause of the shootings, and what he said about the Mexicans has nothing to do with the shooters murderous activities. He's trying to walk away from the effect that his friendly thoughts about the Mexicans and illegals have incited. Apparently he's to address the US on the matter of the shootings so he has realised that his re-election is at risk from his spoken thoughts.

There's two things about his saying that mental illness is the cause for the shootings; One is that he's creating a defence argument for the shooter in any trial. and 2, that the mental illness ploy he's using may rebound in favour of stronger gun control laws "the president has said that the shooters were mentally ill when they were sold the fire-arms under the licences they held". People must seize on his words "mental illness is the cause behind the shootings" and use the words against him and the NRA. He must not be allowed dodge the actual outcome of his racist speech referencing Mexicans., the murder in the US of US citizens of Mexican descent.

I'd say the NRA won't be too happy with his "mental illness is the cause of the shootings" when it comes to both murderers holding of fire-arms licences and fire-arms.

And one thought Trump could not get any worse but when you see his latest twitter responses he gets to a whole new level

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,347 ✭✭✭✭Water John

It's quite simple, Trump owns what has happened and no fudging or walking back will deny that. When you spew hatred and divisivness, you own the consequences.

The idiot is saying that they want to improve background checks, but his leader of the senate is blocking that bill

Trumps tweets today are simply disgusting, he lumped in gun control laws with immigation reform laws he wants and then he goes on to say the fake news media are to blame for this happening

American is sinking deeper and deeper and if he wins next years, who knows how dark it is going to get in the country

It's telling to see the difference in the response from Republicans depending on the race of the perpetrators of crimes like this.

When it's a Muslim or person of colour , they are "terrorists" "Animals" "Low-lifes" etc.

When it's a white person they are "Disturbed" , "Mental Health Issues" etc.

So , the rhetoric is thus

White Mass murderers :- Not really their fault, victims of society . Failure of Mental Health services (conveniently blamed on some distant Democrat policy).

An immigrant or someone of immigrant descent :- Murderous scum who hate America and American ideals.

    Why the difference?

The reality is , anyone who goes out and decides to commit mass murder is severely mentally disturbed.

In all likelihood they have been exposed to a poisonous rhetoric or lifestyle that has led them to the decision to commit the atrocity.

Whether that was an abusive family home , a hate filled Immam or a group of white supremacists that filled their already damaged minds with bile and hatred doesn't matter , the pathology is the same for them all.

Stop creating the environment for these hate mongers to exist (any kind of hate).

Vilifying Immigrants, Muslims. Blacks or "different" people makes it easier for the mentally unwell to be influenced by hate and driven to these acts.

Whether they are a white person driven to attack a minority or a minority driven to attack the majority , it's the same environment of hate that creates them both.

Having a President who spends his every waking moment enflaming a "Them vs. Us" society and who has never met a person he cannot denigrate or belittle does absolutely nothing to stop hatred.

He makes it worse and he has to own that , as does every single person who tries to explain away or justify his behaviour.

So is Trump suggesting that if the Hispanics weren't there, you're man wouldn't want to shoot them?

The man picked on people because of the colour of their skin. How many times does he have to do it for you to accept it? His complaint about the squad was purely based on the colour of their skin. He demonised the Mexicans repeatedly. His main complaint about Obama was the colour of his skin and birther nonsense. It is why he went after the Central Park 5. Until his advisors told him to retract it he was delighted with the racist chanting at a recent rally. Came off with only compliments for the crowd.

But hey his advisors pushed him to do a single pr conference is all the evidence that he is not racist? One which he stated he regretted doing a few days later.

His policies benefitted the rich mostly and the fee is already worried about a recession. The man took over one of the strongest economies the US has ever seen ffs.

If I were head of security at places like CNN or The New York Times, I'd be seriously stepping up security. It is only a matter of time before someone targets them.

    Exactly as I said;
    Joyce Alene

    @JoyceWhiteVance
This is sinister. Why do shootings mean we need immigration reform? By linking them, Trump blames the victims for the terrorism that took their lives. He throws red meat to his base-let’s keep Hispanics out of our country-in response to the crimes of a white supremacist.

Trump blaming video games instead of the real issues. It's nuts tbh

The real issues will never be address as long as there is money in US Politics and therefore the NRA/gun manufacturers wielding such power and influence

So Donnie's going with the mental health angle. Interesting.

Trump just said again that mental illness is to blame for gun violence.

One of his first acts as president was blocking an Obama rule that would've prevented 75,000 people with mental disorders from buying a gun.

It was 100 times better than it is now.

It's almost as if the "make America great again" was a lie!??!!

The video games industry better start making donations to the GOP. Target will then be moved away from them.
Media closely watch Sanders, Biden and Warren to see if age is catching up with them and this is the POTUS!!!

Did you think America was great up til 2016?

I would say there's a general view that the US have gone down an incredibly dark road under Trump. The very fact that one can give credible backing to the claim that he's a bit of a white supremacist. That he actively dog whistles about immigrants as part of his policy about a massacre of Latinos. I would say he's set them back considerably as a country.

At least one Republican politician is going with him on the Games angle, amongst others of her own choice.

A representative from southwest Ohio posted to her Facebook that the blame for the Dayton shootings should be placed on gay marriage, recreational marijuana and former President Barack Obama among other things.
Rep. Candice Keller (R-Middletown) began her post by saying “liberals start the blame game” after every mass shooting and “why not place the blame where it belongs?”

“The breakdown of the traditional American family(thank you, transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates); fatherlessness, a subject no one discusses or believes is relevant; the ignoring of violent video games; the relaxing of laws against criminals(open borders); the acceptance of recreational marijuana; failed school policies(hello, parents who defend misbehaving students): disrespect to law enforcement(thank you, Obama)."
