I really fancy Dan Martin for a podium for this Tour ...if he can get to the final week in contention without crashes or illness
Staying safe in the opening stages is so crucial .No wonder he is unhappy about the 3 second rule being omitted

I'd be thoroughly shocked if Martin podiums, would need several to crash out I feel. Will kindly take a charity bet with someone willing to oppose :) I don't think he'll top 5 FWIW. Really open race this year which I think will mean more riders will go for it instead of dilly dallying around.

Barring crashes, the 2 sky lads, bardet, pinot, 1 from movistar will finish ahead of him. Would not be surprised to see nibbles and kruiswijk as well, possibly fuglsang too.

Dont see aru being a good mountain dom for dan to work with

Bernal is the bookies favourite interestingly enough:

I'll bet you €20 that Dan finishes in the top 5.
If I win you pay to my charity, if you win I'll pay to your charity.

I've just had two glasses of wine with dinner.

Edit:I've looked at the odds on Paddy Power. Dan is 50/1 to win

Does anyone know if there’s a highlights show on anywhere other than Eurosport?

Love watching these every year with the ozzy lads. They usually pick up the stuff Kirby misses.

Just a headsup for people without Pay TV - S4C are showing the Tour in HD.

Lotto Jumbo will probably hold Yellow until PdBF now, excellent TTT

Might be an idea to keep stage comments either to their thread or until after midnight, even if in spoiler tags.

Deleted some posts that contain the times after today's stages. People want to get the highlights and purposely avoid the raceday threads, so don't post anything in here that will give it away when the stage has barely finished.

Are the rest days different this year?

Usually it's the Monday, I wondered if with Bastille Day landing on a Sunday, Monday was also a holiday in France and the Tour didn't want to lose a holiday audience?

Seems like a valid enough reason from a commercial point of view. Tough on the riders though.

I wonder if that's why we had flat stage yesterday.
Also I notice that tomorrow's stage is a relatively short flat stage, rather than in previous years I think the tour usually resumed with a mountain stage.

I guess most riders will use Thursday's ITT as a training day in between the mountain stages, except for the time trial specialists and GC contenders.

Next Monday is a rest day so maybe today being a rest day was because of Bastille day being on Sunday

Is there any chance that Thomas loses time in the TT?

I'm hopeful the mountains have some GC drama
