those job losses of course, have nothing to do with Brexit, just as the 1000 new jobs at Facebook have nothing to do with Brexit.

Clueless. Let's point at a different company in a different country to try and deflect.
Do you really think that Brexit has no impact on JLR? If you owned the company you'd put all of the risks / costs affecting your plants world wide and make your redundancy decisions accordingly.

Brexit is not the only reason but its a factor. And the finance minister saying they won't align to EU standards will have put more pressure on many companies.

    I’m clueless?

Facebook are taking on 1000 people in London. Same country.

Neither has anything to do with Brexit. The automotive industry is on its knees globally at the moment.

Facebook and a car manufacturer are hardly comparable.

Correct. The sad thing is Liverpool was one of the few regions to vote against Brexit.

I wasn’t comparing them. There is no need to as neither are relevant to the subject of this thread.

Brexit or no Brexit, the world continues to revolve, business carries. Not everything is Brexit related.

Yes, huge challenges. Its good that the European auto industry is able to collaborate and work closely together on technology, components etc.

It would be a shame if differences in standards or delays at borders got in the way of that.

In the case of JLR and other car manufacturers, they are more likely to be hit negatively by Brexit than Facebook. So, making a point about possible job losses in one industry - car manufacturing - is completely relevant, while blithely bringing up Facebook hiring employees to offset that point isn't.

    nope, absolute codswallop.

Two different companies, one hiring, one laying off. Neither has anything to do with Brexit.

Halewood is in Knowsley, which voted to leave

Car manufacturers that rely on actual real trading that involves shipping are more likely to be hit if the negative aspects of Brexit come to pass.

An internet company who's product is merely virtual isn't.

In the period 2016-2019 employment in the auto industry rose in 27 out of 28 EU member states, and fell in one.

Obviously, the need to find capital to invest in developing electric cars and the decline in demand for diesel carsare issues which affect the European auto industry as a whole. It's delusional, however, to imagine that Brexit doesn't play a role in leading producers to decide the the necessary cutbacks will be made in the UK in priority to other places.

How do you know that it isn't anything to do with Brexit?

simply put, because JLR are in the **** and that has nothing to do with Brexit. They have relied heavily on Diesel engines and not invested enough in Electric.

Along with the rest of the luxury car makers, they have also seen a massive drop in sales in China which in 2017 was their biggest export market.

or maybe we should start claiming the announcement by facebook that they are to create 1000 new jobs in the UK is a sign that Brexit is a success? If not, how do you know?

Adding a layer of economic uncertainty seems unlikely to improve their lot, no?

Facebook are purveyors of intangible services who are highly mobile. They're not investing all that much as they can move away easily should they need to.

    no, it won't.

that doesn't detract from my statement though, that the job losses at Halewood are not related to Brexit.

I dunno man, there's a few pro Brexit posters here making wild claims with zero evidence, turning a blind eye to current events, ignoring inconsistencies and lies by their leaders and spinning every negative into a weird positive.

The irony being that Ireland has its blasphemy law, and the UK has the strictest online speech laws maybe anywhere in the world. Nothing to do with the EU.
