Anyone ordered off AMD direct recently?

I think I got a 6900XT. I'm through the checkout process, Paypal paid, I have an order number, and I have an 'Order submitted' email from AMD. The email says 'Your order has been submitted and is currently being processed. You will receive another email with the details of your order within 48 hours.'

This is good, right? Or am I in for a surprise?

All good, You should Order Confirmation relatively soon after, then it's a waiting game for the shipping I took nearly a week for mine to ship. Keep in mind they process orders manually so until it is shipped it can get cancelled

I had the page open prior to drop, there was talk on discord about a "CAT16 tag" on certain products. Apparently there is a link you put the product code into if the status is CAT15 it's not in inventory and won't be dropping. When the code goes to CAT16 it means the product is in inventory and will drop within a couple of hours, no way to narrow down the time unfortunately.

Anyway the chat confirmed the RX6900XT RX6800 and RX6700XT would drop. I'm happy with a RX6700XT, if the RX6800XT was available I might have gone for that but it wasn't so I had the RX6700XT page open and ready to go, no add to basket button was available. As soon as the discord part alert went off I used the AMD add to basket and checkout script posted on the previous page. It worked perfectly and brought me to the payment detail page. I initially was going to pay with debit card but my saved card details didn't autofill the bloody payment details page, so instead used PayPal and it worked.

It bloody mental, in the last 2 weeks I've gone from not using any social media to signing up to discord, twitter and Telegram. Discord gives me headaches , I was 44 on Tuesday and trying to read through the kids text speak has aged me further.

Job done now despite the headaches, I'll probably cancel the RX6700XT I've pre-ordered on amazon for 740, But I could probably sell that for double the price on adverts:pac:

That's definitely the most stressful thing I've ever bought.

I didn't get any captcha visual checks just the tick box. I've recently found out that when you click the I'm not a robot button your browser history is reviewed. If you just cleared your browser history the site can't tell if you are human or a robot so the picture puzzle appears. If you've random site history in your cookies it thinks your human and off you go to the checkout without the picture puzzle.

Moral of the story - Don't clear your history after watching porn :pac::pac::pac:

So I had Discord, Distill and a YouTube stock channel open. I should have gotten some audio notification! Thought I missed it. Turns out that Zoom takes over your audio completely when you're on a Zoom call. Just did some testing on that. God damn Zoom call I was on

The script - I have it also, but it just adds the add to cart button for me.

Is there another which brings you to checkout also?

PartAlert Twitter worked for me on mobile with Watch alerts sound turned up. Used the Twitter browser which is probably why I got stung for Captcha due to lack of cookies, but it was quick. Stressful getting it done on the phone while also trying to spin up a browser on the pc.

Im glad you got something but im literally banging my head against a wall here.

I had finger on trigger - 6900XT page open, second the alert went off I hit the script button, Paypal worked, hit place order and it crapped out.

    Game over at that stage...

I'm using MS Edge with no plugins installed. From what I recall I hit the script it runs little timer appears for a second or two, then the I'm not a robot tick box appeared, I clicked it and the add to basket button, little timer appears again for a second or two, then the checkout button which leads to the payment details page. I got no picture puzzles things. To be honest it's a bit of a blur , it must have taken 10 - 20 max from alert to checkout but it seemed like an age.

Any update on the shipment page ? I read of delays on discord where AMD where checking all orders going out. Anyone who ordered more than one of the same card had orders canceled.

People who order one card ordered or two different cards got them eventually.

That's a PITA but hopefully it arrives next week and you'll be sorted. It'll be all worth it in the end, well hopefully the catch is better than the chase.

I need to figure out what to do with myself on a Thursday afternoon now .... I'm considering going again next week :D

Can I ask what Discord group you were in? or how exactly can one find out where these product codes are? Knowing what is going to drop would be really helpful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 694 ✭✭✭Confused11811

I'm on the part alert discord , unfortunately the group is closed to new members. However partalert on Twitter is easy to access and drops links. I don't know how they find out if the product is about to drop. There is a lot of BS talk on the discord channel but it seems some have access to it. I really was targeting a rx6700xt and had the page open ready to go I had the RX6800XT opened in an other window just in case the chat on discord was BS and the RX6800XT was available, I'd no interest in the other cards. The alert sounded and I used the script details of which are posted a few pages back. It worked for me this time but the twitter alerts came in very quick too so probably could have got one that way. I honestly don't know the validity of those who claim to have access to the code details.

they run a script on digital rivers server..it outputs when the stock code changes..usually means that the stock item that changed gets dropped within 2 hours or so..thats how they do it

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why we can't have nice things or better, why the bot epidemic is getting worse and worse and will start to affect the purchase of just about any desirable products in the future (or needed - wait until there's some important medication for sale and watch it appear on eBay for 10x the price).

Of course I'm not referring to PartAlert nor your specific message, but the practice from web developers of using public-facing APIs.

It strange that there a small group and won't let new people join kinda sound like scalper club buying up cards to sell for profit could be wrong guess there no way to stop groups like this getting cards.

  • Registered Users Posts: 694 ✭✭✭Confused11811

The discord channel I joined was open for membership until the 20th of April. There's something like 40k members across all the EU it's at it's maximum capacity now, I got in at the tail end of it.

These discord channels are only around because of bots and the web vulnerability that exists in website that allow bots to run and grab all the stock. They give normal people a fighting chance of getting something. The discord channel is closed , but the twitter alert is running available for all. The developer of the discord channel put a open source code on GitHub available for all to use to help with buying on the AMD site. Its details are posted on this forum and others , I would say he's done his best to help normal people get a card.

Using twitter alerts I've managed to complete the purchase process of RTX 3060 TI which was later unfortunately cancel by amazon. It was about €220 above RRP . I pre-ordered a rx6700xt again through amazon and again €220 above RRP. I used the script he made to get a AMD direct RX6700XT. I've now cancelled the amazon RX6700XT. That chap God bless him saved me €220 euro.

As a 44 year old who first PC self build was based on a socket 775 single core P4 engineering sample (Chip loaner program at Intel) I would never have imagined the current need to jump through the hoops just to get a bloody computer part. We can blame alot of different things but when you got basically one silicon manufacturer TSMC supplying all the major chip makers with 6nm chips and thus restricting overall capacity that's the real problem IMHO.

Websites API's and bots don't help the limited supplies, I'd agree with the sentiment that this needs to be addressed. Discords and part alerts are a help to normal users most of the users there are pulling their hair out like everyone else trying to get a card. But if AMD, intel and Nvidia got their fingers out and start making their own 6nm product and increased supply instead of TSMC supplying the world we'd be in a better place.

Seriously I can't believe how much intel have slipped since I left there .....

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,574 ✭✭✭EoinHef

So basically the answer to bots is more bots?

Na,no bots at all would be better.

  • Registered Users Posts: 694 ✭✭✭Confused11811

I dislike having to jump through hoop to get a card as much as anyone else here. The answer is greater supply, which hopefully will be Q3. If there was supply to meet demand then the bots would soon disappear.

Regarding the bots and the current limited supply , there is an issue with certain websites and the ease at which bots can operate on them needs to be addressed. This goes for everything from concert tickets, GPU's , consoles and more. There are things website could easily do to stop bots. Many European sites have brought in one item per customer policy. EVGA have a great first come first serve registration and invite purchase option running in the US and elsewhere, unfortunately it seems Europe isn't on their priority list. AMD have to their credit brought in anti bot technology, the script I mentioned and is detailed here doesn't bypass this it just place the item in you basket when you click it and the gpu is actually in stock. You still need to go through the bot detection stuff.

In Ireland we're poorly served , the websites that do delivery here don't have bot protection or one card per customer policy. I've registered with EVGA for a notification on stock months ago and probably won't hear anything for another couple of months. AMD is our best hope, the only chance on amazon you have is when a product is newly introduced and the bots script aren't setup to run on that specific page. It's BS at the moment, to get an RTX card at RRP you either set up your own script (which doesn't seem all that hard if you've any coding experience) or hope the part alerts sites are quick enough to give you a heads up.

There's 40k people on the discord channel I joined, 40k for the most part trying to get a GPU. Most would be happy with a decent 1080p/1440p card. There's a massive market for a card similar to the 1660 series which is 12nm tech. I'd have been happy with a new 1660 super, but lack of supply pushed me to a higher end gpu. I don't regret using discord or part alerts, I'm just glad my search is over.

Its unreal that big companies cannot be arsed to stop this kind of intrusion..my understanding is it can be done but would cost money to integrate into existing systems.

This scalping bot **** started a few yrs back when expensive sports footwear sold at a premium and supply was low

Their are now whole groups of people who pay into a fund to buy up anything they can so they can sell it all on for a major profit..

The bean counters don't care since it's good short-term profit with decent mindshare.

They'll care IF people (1 hardware generation removed) don't give a damn about upgrades.

Keep in mind it's a bank holiday. My delivery had a bank holiday in the middle and took two weeks to deliver because of it. I'm sure it'll show up by Friday

Building up a custom pc on MSRP (or as close as possible) is stressful to get all parts delivered:
Ordered an AMD direct GPU on 16th, shipped on 23th but DHL tracking info is from 26th.
Something from CaseKing (Germany) that was shipped also by DHL on 28th and today 3rd May, it's already being tracked by AnPost.
Some other parts from Amazon Germany, ordered on 25th and were delivered Saturday 1st May.

The shipping cost from AMD direct was almost double the cost of the others and it's the slowest and less informative of the bunch...

I'm trying to stay positive and thinking that all those horror stories with FastWay will not happen... specially since I have 2 packages to receive from them, GPU and CPU (from 21st drop)...
