    Hi,

    AOC 19" TV.
    Model AOC l19W981

It has "audio only " message.
I can tune it in ..... All channels show.
Can select any but no good.
Text shows up on TNG ..
Cannot work out if it is the TV's gone, or has the picture been turned off, via the Remote ? or something else.

TV will not work in another room, but another TV will work in this room.

    Any Ideas ??

    Thanks

    Jay.

Your description is not very clear, but what I think you are saying is "I've tuned my telly, and I get the words 'Audio Only' on my screen" is that right? Are you listening to a radio channel (which are available via Saorview). Many remotes not have a TV/Radio button, an you find it (look for tv/radio images)

    Hi,
    Thanks for the swift reply.

TV had not been used in a while.
    Switched it on.
    Blank screen.
"Audio Only " message in top right of screen.
    I have sound.
I thought it was something minor, and the TV was " Locked " in audio mode.
I did a retune, The menu messages / options all appear on the screen.
    Retune got all the channels.
    all sound only.
When I have RTE1 on, I get the commentary from RTE1 but no picture.
I tried the remote reset TV/Sound.
    Nothing.

    Any thoughts ??

    Thanks

    Jay.

When tuning did the picture show for the channels it found.

Is there an option in Audio settings for "Audio Only"?
    From the manual
Audio Only: To turn off the screen picture but keep the sound on.

Could be a Freeview TV rather than a Freeview HD TV, are you trying to use it on Saorview.

This is likely the case (a Freeview TV that doesn't support Saorview)

Jay Dee, when the TV worked before, was there another box connected to it?

    (a) When tuning did the picture show for the channels it found.
When the tuning was complete, it showed a full list of channels, RTE's Virgin etc.
It's fed from a saorview aerial.

    (b) Is there an option in Audio settings for "Audio Only
No... "Audio Only " appears on its own, when you select a channel. The other information, Channel number and Channel name appear on the top of the screen, and then go off, leaving "Audio Only" .

    (c) Could be a Freeview TV rather than a Freeview HD TV, are you trying to use it on Saorview.

    (d) This is likely the case (a Freeview TV that doesn't support Saorview)
I don't understand.. I have 5 different TV's running from the Ariel, all have Saorview, and all are running fine.

    (e) when the TV worked before, was there another box connected to it
The last time it was used, it was a Playstation 2 or 3, connected to it and it worked fine.

The TV will show the subtitles, if the channel has them,
So I end up with "Audio Only" Top right of screen
Subtitles running at the bottom and the audio through the speaker ?????
    But no Picture.

According to this, the TV is from 2008. Freeview was around at the time, but Saorview was not. Specifically, for Saorview to work properly, the TV needs a MPEG4 decoder. That TV model likely only has an MPEG2 decoder, which is why you get sound, but no picture. The channel information, etc are still there because the TV is actually working just fine.

Other TVs connected to the same Saorview arial will have the proper MPEG4 decoder. The quickest fix, without having to fork out for a new TV, is to buy a Saorview box in the likes of DID, Power City, Harvey Norman or online

    Hope this helps

    HI,

One last question, ... hopefully !!

Does the Saorview box have to be MPEG4 ??
I have seen boxes for sale in MPEG2 and MPEG4 spec...
However, from the comments above, I'm assuming it's MPEG4 only !!!!

    Thanks

    Jay

Yes, it should be MPEG4. Any branded Saorview box will work

    Hi,

So, will this work or not ?

    https://www.gumtree.ie/a-tv-dvd-vision-photo/wexford/saorview-box/1002294751470911088014009

    " Fully MPEG2 / H.264 Compliant "
    whatever that means ?

I've seen a few like this one.

    Thanks

    Jay

Nope, you won't get Saorview HD channels with MPEG2, stick to an MPEG4 box

    Hi,

    That's the job.
    Got sorted with MPEG4.

    All going great.
    Boards does it again....

    Thanks

    Jay
