Well that a ridiculous statement, PHEVs definitely should NOT have priority at charge points. They have an alternative fuel source and as such can continue their journey, they should not be reliant on a public network.

Well, government is trying to reduce emissions - hence all grants and discounts for EV are acceptable. Making such rule would reduce Irish emissions.

genuinely not being facetious, but are you being serious?

It would make sense from environmental policy point of view, but I guess would be difficult to implement.

Price of petrol is 1.75 euro a liter atm, https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/Norway/gasoline_prices/
plus they get other incentives for having an EV.

Price of Benzine in NL is 1.78 / liter but 3 euros an hour for parking is crazy expensive.

In NL the only incentive these days is low BPM (equivalent to Irish VRT) and zero Bijtelling (Benefit in Kind) tax for some years on BEVs.

In Germany you get your 4 K grant still, local grant for a home charger and it’s still possible to charge almost for free.

NL is miles ahead of Germany in terms of charging infrastructure. Ireland looks a bit behind the game and the Island is so small some decent infrastructure would make a huge difference.

The Dutch don’t really drive EVs because they are cheap anymore, they drive them because they are more pleasant to drive than a standard ICE.

If you see a Tesla in NL is probably leased via their work.

Very interesting what you posit here though on the economics of it. Do eCars intend on charging in the future, is there an ETA?

eCars originally announced charging in 2015, to start in 2016. However they ****ed it up with a ridiculously high monthly charge for access (€16.99) plus per minute charges of 30c. The introduction of this genuinely stupid plan was "postponed". Since then they have been making vaious statements that they will introduce charging presently. I think last year they announced it would be early 2019 for fast chargers and late 2019 for slower chargers. Obviously they have also missed this deadline.
I have never met anyone who needs the fast charging network who does not want chargers introduced asap.

    I have, unfortunately.
    Morons.
They don't seem to grasp that any form of charging for charging will make the network better instantly as local freeloaders will be deterred

I've met a few like that too, I suspect most of them either don't have a home charger or won't use it so they can €20 off their electricity bill.

Just like the plastic bag charge, if there's a cheaper alternative, people will flock towards that. 5 cent for a bag (think that was the initial price) was enough to get people to reuse bags.

If electricity at home costs 20 cent/kwh, charging 25 cent/kwh at fast chargers will deter the freeloaders. Granted the fast chargers are much faster, but unless you're on a drive, they're much less convenient than just plugging in at home.

My drive home passes a fast charger, and i'll happily nip in for 10-15 minutes once a week if it's free (queue and cost wise).

Curious , how do you work out say an oil service on a phev. Let's say oil needs to be done every 15k but u estimate that you did 5k on battery and 10k on ice. Do you have that data on hand ?

its 15 k on the dash and counts down, then lets you know every time you start the car "Service Due" or something like that, but your question is valid if i done only 1 k on petrol and 14 k on electric, seems like a waste of oil.

My model is the lowest spec, it resets the Electrical usage part every time I charge to 100%,

Phev watch dog app can keep a trip log telling you all that info, but I have yet to get the OBD ii thingy.

I am on holiday in the Netherlands and I returned back from a day trip with 6km’s left on my rental i3 to my accommodation and the destination charger was taken by 2 British reg Outlander PHEV’s

It funny that my 8 year old after only 4 weeks EV exposure, our new 40kw leaf which we picked up at the start of the month and now a rental i3, she suggested to unplug one of the dirty PHEV’s as our need was greater!

We compromised and I left the car in the next space with the cable hanging out and put a message on one of the windscreens of the Outlanders to plug me in once done, with my number in case of any issues. I got a text 15mins ago thanking me for a nice blue BMW curly type 2 charge cable and to go fornicate with myself as I am a stupid spud munching prick:mad:

Checking the app the car is charging so someone plugged me in, I guess some langer from the local pub decided to have a bit of craic. Not sure how to text back yet.

6 KM Left ... Try to aim for 30km remaining in the Battery for when you arrive at your destination (stop at a rapid charger on the way there for few minutes to give yourself a buffer.
Even if you have a dedicated private charging possibility at your destination you don't know what might happen, road/motorway might be closed and you might need to take a longer detour.
Where are you in NL ?  I find it hard to believe there are only 2 charge points near you unless you are out in the sticks :)
Are you using Chargemap :) ? It's pretty handy:
    https://chargemap.com/map#pid=1

    Edit:
How exactly did they start the charging session on the loading pole for you ? All the Chargers in NL Usually need an RFID card to start even if it's for free (and you also need a card to finish the session)

And how are you using ConnectedDrive on a Rental i3, you need the master code to do that and Sixt said it's a major security issue to give this out since a previous renter would have access to a new renters car.

I am in a holiday park in Wassenar and the charger is onsite and free to use so no need to start with RFID or anything. Last night it looked we would have plenty of charge but I put my foot down on way home and man did that suck up the juice. With the kids in the back who where getting cranky I didn’t fancy stopping for a quick juice up.

The car is on a long term rental for 12 weeks and Sixt were fine setting up the app for me, they never mentioned anything about security to me. Only hassle I had was to prove that I had accounts & tags for charge stations in the Netherlands.

12 weeks rental on an i3 in NL is pretty pricey!

I guess you are at Duinrell but they only have Normal Plug sockets .. are you saying they have Type 2 Chargers now :)

If they do then add them on Chargemap !

In Germany when you rent with Sixt they give you a Plugsurfing Card so you are good to go with no preparation.

Surprised about the Connected Drive thing, must look into that.

I am renting through work as I am working 3 days a week in Amsterdam at the moment. It’s cheaper for them to put me up in Duinrell than a downtown hotel in Amsterdam so it great I can bring the family over for the summer while the kids are off school.

There is a type 2 charger on site, not sure of the output but from 6km to full is about 3.5 hrs. Sixt did not give me a charging tag, I have a NewMotion tag which is working out ok over here, I have only needed one rapid charge and used a fast Ned. I will heading to Munich in a couple of weeks so it will have a workout then.

That's handy, nice trip with the kids as well.

Not sure what you are paying with NewMotion, have a look at:
    https://www.maingau-energie.de/e-mobilität/Autostrom-Tarif

Gets you 35 cent /kWh on Fastned and Allego.

You can use the Allego chargers directly with the Maingau app without having to wait for the RFID Chip to arrive :)

When you do your trip to Munich Maingau is definitely the way to go, all Rapids are pay per charge rather than per kWh, and with Maingau you only pay the 35 cents.

You could even Manage Munich for free I recon :)
All of these Rapid Chargers are for free on your route:

Some one is going to get killed at a charger,

3 hours would charge an Outlander at 3.7 kw, would not bother me if I was unplugged, but I would hate to loose my cable to theft/damage.
I would have plugged you in if a note was left also.

I wouldn't respond - it's exactly what they want you to do, just leave it.
