Well, I guess for packaging reasons, and for the heritage they have with boxers, that was the logical way to go.
To hell with heritage, that engine has not been kind to their reputation.
A very quick look online full of story’s of the early Diesel engine failing at as little as 50-60k miles, even with FSH and the later ones aren’t much better apparently.

Yeah, but like Mazda with rotaries, they probably thought it was a good idea to keep at it.

Also known as NIH* - is common in companies run by engineers

What I dont get is ... Why did they bother ?

... I mean apart from Euroland where is there a market for the unit ? ( not U.S. or Japan anyway )

    * - Not Invented Here ( and therefore no good ! )

    Dreadful.
    They don't age well.

Seemingly well looked after 320d coupe with lots of history, tested only til June, €1999

Nice bit of flash for the cash. Ad seems genuine. Seller has it nearly 2 years.

    Suspiciously cheap?
One other similar car on Carzone is double that price.

Carzone prices are usually overly optimistic to say the least.

Seems a bit cheap, but I wouldn't imagine there is anything nefarious going on. The shut lines on the bonnet above the headlights look a bit wonky.

No reason not to buy it though, especially if the history checked out and it drove well it would be worth a punt IMO

No interior pics either. I know DD limit to 10 pics but he could have put 1 up

e39 touring with leather and full service history for €750. Looks very decent at that money

Very tempted myself. And it’s local.
Are they good/bad? What to look out for etc.
According to service book it’s only done 50k since 2011. Mileage might have had a haircut.

I was wondering, saw a couple of late model Forester diesels for sale with “needs engine”

The problems stem from the dreaded dual mass flywheel failing and being continued to be used. The excess vibration wrecked the rear main bearing causing the oil pressure to drop drastically... The rest is history..

Good unit, make sure belt is done and oil and it will motor on...

I'd rather this then my megane for that added comfort and space.

Got belt on mine last week €290 with pump and coolant.

Not a rocket as the Laguna definitely could do with the 2.0 but they are quite frugal.

S320 with test til July, nice spec (massage seats!), €890

Nice yoke to smoke around in for a few months. You'd surely get a few hundred for it for export when the test runs out?

Bargain if it checks out. Even if it only lasted til the tax ran out you'd be doing well

No, its not. Just commenting on it. Its in fine condition, if I was looking for a car, would not mind taking a chance on it.

That's a lot of car for the money if it's been looked after and runs well.

There's a few on donedeal for not much more than that of the same sort of vintage.

Granted the NCT is almost up on that one but they seem to be going pretty cheap.

My Passat estate is beyond economical to keep on the road past Feb with NCT repairs needed, so looking for a replacement.

So, my E60 530d is for sale now. Carbon black, test until end of April. 312k km, full Joe Duffy history, and last month I did oil/air/cabin. Its auto, its got cream/beige/mustard interior and is certainly sold as seen. For a boardsie I'll do €1500, so for the bangernomics price of 2k you'll have a taxed and tested 530 for three months. I'll be honest with it if someone comes view it.

You should really put a new test on her.
