While I have no idea what you need it for, I'll guess and say buy an estate, more comfortable ride, better driving position, more choice, way more luggage space.

You also seem to be assuming that mileage is a direct measure of usage and maintenance. It's not that simple. A car driven up and down the motorway every day may still be on some of it's original suspension bits or clutch over a granny grinding gears driving two miles down a pothole ridden road to the shops once a week. People put too much emphases on mileage and I can see why clocking is big business.

But 'very low' mileage is not 162,400 km, irrespective of the cars age. Perhaps 'below average' but not 'very low'.

Age is what it says in the log book. Mileage is what it says on the odometer. Condition is what you judge by looking and driving.

Granny gear grinding is easy to tell, but 'very low' mileage, 'very rare', 'highly sought after' and 'future classic', are all meaningless salesmen puffs that have no value and bring nothing for the possible purchaser.

Those terms are all lies that try to fool the foolish.

Decent looking 2010 Panda with a years test and claimed low miles, €1950

Another decent upper budget bangernomics choice IMO is the Panda. A 2010/11 example can be had within budget handily enough, they make decent first cars or cheap runabouts.

Same owner since 2005. Needs to be 400, but still - I would! I'd bet not many other small cars from this era would look so fresh inside after 170k miles.

Looks alright, mileage seems low for the year, whatever of that, I wouldnt describe it as a long NCT/late 2020 though. I know someone who had one and said he couldnt get anyone to make an offer, Im not much of a fan of BMWs, but Im not sure why he couldnt get an offer.

Seller is "webuyanycar" type - literally!

i.e. it's not a private sale, just a trader shifting on something cheap with no idea of its history. That's why its priced that way.

It could be fine, it depends on what you are looki g for. They are a fine car generally, and for the money it's worth a look if its local to you.

I'd say there's going to be a lot of the bigger cars with a bit of tax left going for peanuts soon.

I have a 9-5 with the same engine, great for motorway driving. Urban use you'd need an Arab in the boot ! They are a great car to drive ,engine parts are GM/Opel so much cheaper than BMW or MERC.

Very near to NCT, bit too near for my liking, someone in the family had one, nice car, it needed some work they didnt want to pay out for, some problem/part on the steering rack hydraulics leaking, couldnt get an offer on it, was a low mileage diesel, nippy imo compared to my octavia, dont know what the petrol is like, nice inside, but felt cramped, again in comparison to the octavia.

It has 8 months NCT. how long do you expect in a bangernomics car?

My mistake, I must scanned the end of tax in the advert, I read May on NCT, yep 8 months is grand, a year or more is always good :pac:

Any opinions on a 2005 Toyota Avensis with the 1.8L petrol engine? I'm looking at one with just over 300,000km on it for 550e... assuming the car's been taken care of, would it make a good and sensible purchase for cheap and reliable motoring?

Cheap and reliable on a 15 year old car....

It won't be cheap but Toyota were obviously reliable enough.

If you want cheap you would want to looking at the Yaris or similar.

You might have oil burning issues but to be honest, for €550 who cares? Just bin it and go again if it won’t pass NCT

Well equipped, comfy enough, very good standard safety for an 05.
