That's a UK import as I don't think the 2.0 litre was ever offered here in the i30. Price difference between it and the 1.6 when new made it too expensive here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭barry181091

This looks like a decent value i30 in rarer 2 litre form. Heated leather, rear sensors. Few months tax and it's at the 390 rate as well.

Oh, this isn't a bad little car at all! Any issues with these?

I just rang him as I'm on the lookout for a car for the missus.

No good for me. Needs work, new clutch, new links, new flywheel. He was quoted about €900 for repairs in the garage. Least he was honest about it all.

Sounded like a genuine fella, said if he doesnt sell the car like that in 48 hours he will get it fixed and wont be selling it at all.

Honest about it all would be mentioning these issues on the ad itself tbf

Essentially had the same conversion as yourself :P It would be a nice model to fix up all the same

I'm going to look at this after work. Anyone want to offer anything I need to look out for besides the obvious stuff?

Jesus that interior is just filthy, looks like the previous owner had farm animals living in it. You might want to put on a pair of overalls and wellies before sitting in that. That car isn't worth anywhere near that sort of money imo. 2k would nearly get you a Renault Fluence which is a far better car.

Double check the badge. If it still says vauxhall then I'd give it a miss.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,047 ✭✭✭Truckermal

Jesus that's a awful looking thing! So much better out there for less money!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,494 ✭✭✭dobman88

We would have the dogs and hiking gear in the car anyway so not too bothered about interior. More a case of anything I should look for with the engine or are they prone to anything in particular going wrong. This is for the missus and she just wants a reliable car to get her around and into work and back.

Have never actually bought a car myself, my exes dad was a mechanic and got my first 2 cars for me, Duke O Smiley on here helped with my last purchase so I'm pretty clueless when it comes to buying cars.

They are a nice car to be fair. If you only have a 8km drive to work and don't do a serious amount of driving besides I'd be suggesting petrol all the way alright. Being a Honda petrol reliability should go without saying - they are the biggest manufacturer of petrol engines in the world after all.

Asking price is on the face of it a little on the strong side but it does look in great order and a long NCT. Presumably they meant NCT 07/2021 and Tax 03/2021 in the body of the ad but something you would want to check out whats what. If it does have that much tax on it then the tax alone would be worth a considerable few quid and arguably make the car a pretty decent buy.

I see a tear in the drivers seat bolster but that certainly wouldn't put me off. Bear in mind Honda parts can be expensive but they should be at the sweet spot where there fairly readily available in breakers yards and not gone as rare as hens teeth yet.

Bought this morning and delighted it with it. They have sourced a seat from a scrap yard and have to bring car back down when it arrives. All for free.

NCT is till March but tax is out at end of the month.

They gave me a month warranty which is expected of a car that age.

Anyway happy out with it. A rocket of a yoke

I would take Bazz’s advice and look for a Fluence or Mk3 Megane, you’ll get 09-11 within budget. Those Astras really aren’t good cars

Best of luck with it. Looks like a nice car and that was decent of them to replace the seat also.

Ok, cancelled the viewing on that Astra. Took her comments on board and this txt from the brother. I'll put it this way. They're the cheapest cars on the market for a reason.

We're not in a huge rush, shes not back in the office until July so we have time on our side

Good call. Those Astra’s are absolute rubbish. You can add insignias to that list too.

The ones I have rented over the past few years were really nice to drive. A mix of manual and auto diesels. Although the rentals are all basically brand new cars :o

    @dobman88

    I wouldn't say that either.
The Astra H are generally good straight forward cars, that are easy to drive, fix and run.

Not flashy, but perfectly adequate from a utilitarian point of view.

That is not a 2k car. Certainly not with 180k miles on it. Offer him 500!

I'm trying to help my girlfriend's sister find a suitable car for bangernomics budget.
Would love some suggestions on a make/model.
Looking for something in and around Dublin area.

Looking for hatchback, something like a fiesta or Clio. Have been browsing DoneDeal but haven't found a huge amount.

What do you think if this?

Same seller as two other cars that could be of interest to you/her, the Fiesta being probably the best of the 3.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,239 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

You would think the seller of that Fiesta being a trader judging by the other cars he has for sale, would at least take a few photos of the car's interior. Seems to be an annoying trend these days on donedeal.

06 Kia Cerato with 104k kilometres on the clock. NCT to September - 600 Quid

Shame about the bodywork on this "Toyota Yoga" read Aygo, but might be of some interest for a first time driver or delivery driver looking for reliable, cheap to insure and tax:
