2007 Focus for 750 (down from 1,000 yesterday). On the cheaper tax. Ad seems honest and car doesn't look to be in bad shape. Short NCT and almost out of tax. Eyes wide open but it may be worth a punt.

    Cheaper tax? 2008 on

Post 2008 the tax on the Focus is roughly 516 or something p.a. versus 385 (for a 1.4). Not the most important thing in the world but every little helps :p

Confused by one of the cars in this thread.

Is it unusual for a car to be listed as private sale on donedeal but the cartell report says current owner says its been held as trade sale for 8 months?

Seller claims 2 owners. But it appears its been 2 owners and then held in trade sale by a garage for since November?

Is that a common thing for a small trader?

Is someone trying to pull a fast one?

Happens all the time. If someone is going to misrepresent his status as a trader you can be certain he will lie about other things too, that's just for openers

I find the best value at this end of the market is a privately sold, long term owner car with a good history. Part time traders just want to make a few quid so they pick up cheap (for a reason) cars and add on a profit.

There are legitimate traders at this end of the market too, and you can get good stuff from them because they have good connections to the trade. But they will be honest about what they are doing.

I'm only posting the asking price, I don't think it's worth it either.

It's an Alfa, it's got low mileage, over a years test (07/21) and it'll even come with a warranty.

Granted, it's not the best Alfa or the best engine. And €1895 seems optimistic.

Ideal summer motoring if the weather were to play ball
VW Eos 2.0TFSI, NCT to 12/20, ad mentions a lot of work (chains/belts/pumps) done.
    €1650 and negotiable apparently

    Isn't that 2.0 about 200hp?

They’re 150PS on the earlier ones I think.

What looks like a decent 2007 A4 Avant
    265,000kms 1.9TDi
NCT until end of January 2021 and 2 months tax also
Comes with 3 keys which is also nice with this age of car
Asking €1675, wouldn't be a bad buy for €1500 if all checks out
Seller has plenty of cars for sale, so eyes wide open

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

I do a lot of business with the seller of that A4, his ads can be abrupt but he is sound out and will be up front about the smallest of issues with anything he is selling.

Must have bought about 30 cars off him

The turbo one is 200 and the N/A one is 150.

In VW speak, the back of the car has either TDi or TSi' The T signifies Turbo, the D signifies diesel, and the S signifies petrol, and the i signifies injection.

More relevant part is the colour of the letters. If the only red letter is i then that is the basic power, if they are all red then that is the highest power.

The EOS had only the i in red so low power.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

In typical VW fashion a TSi isnt always a turbo though, like this Polo https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/volkswagen-polo-1-0-tsi-65hp-trendline/24436397

Id say that Eos is turbo though. The non turbo was an FSi and turbo was a TFSi.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,588 ✭✭✭User1998

That Polo isn’t a TSi, the dealer just wrote TSi in the description, if it was a TSi it would most definitely be turbo and would say TSi on the boot. There are no non turbo TSi’s

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,239 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

If it only has 65bhp with a turbo then heaven forbid how slow it would be without one. The Polo TSI has something like 90bhp not 65bhp.

Not really. The logic as regards badge colours changed a good bit through the years.

The Eos and Polo are non-turbos. The fsi is direct injection, the other one is mpi.
From the master of red letters it'd be a silly move to leave the mighty T out, they won't be silent on them whiny wheels. ;-)

I bought my (wife's) bangernomics Ford C-Max from him last Jan. Small trader. Does get in a lot of clean higher mileage cars with plenty of test left.

    T.

Im confident that there was a kerfuffle with those Polos at launch in 2018 where the 65hp cars were advertised as a TSi when they were not before the 90hp actual turbo engine became available to us.

Cant find anything to back it up on the web but im fairly sure that was a thing and there is a fair few 2018 65hp cars advertised as TSi, they cant all be dealers making mistakes. Well, maybe, but i still think it was a thing.

I also remember soon after launch a number of people returning the cars for a complaint of down on power but it turns out the cars were absolutely fine, just the 65hp is exceptionally strangled and is literally around 16 seconds to 100kmh. They wouldnt pull your pants down.

Thats getting a bit off bangernomics though.
