It does indeed, he may stretch out. As with covid he is not able to use public transport which he would prefer. Was never a big car fan.....

If you told him that had alloys he would be a grand:-)

only if it was imported before the end of june 2008. anything imported that after is on CO2 tax.
I think you're wrong there. If it's original date of registration was between January and June of 2008 then there a choice as to which way you tax it - regardless of when it's imported. Date of original registration is what's important.

    07 1.6 Mazda 3 for €700

The advert isn't the greatest and the colour might not be to everyone's taste but I believe these tend to be reliable albeit perhaps a bit thirsty on oil.
However there are far worse places to be at this price.

That reminds me of the story of the little old lady who took her car into the local garage complaining of a peculiar smell in the car. The mechanic said to leave the car and he would check it out.

When the little old lady returned he said he found nothing wrong.

Next day she was back saying the smell was still there. So he said take me out and tell me when the smell appears. So off she sets, driving like the lady in the VW ad, only a bit more robust.

When they return to the garage, she says 'There, can you smell it now?' He says 'Mam, I'm sitting in it!'.

Would the mazda rx8 of around 2004/2005 be regarded as a reliable car does anyone know? Is it known for having any issues?

Reliable no, thirsty yes, fun drive yes if running right.
Engine rebuild seems to be a must on many and you need a good sized wallet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,631 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

If you want a car that will...
rev forever and thrives on being redlined
    guzzles gallons of petrol
    barely does 20mpg
    wakes up the neighbours
    pops and bangs
blows flames out the exhaust, etc etc...

Then get an RX8, but reliable is certainly not a term to even consider

Yes, I spent months trying to persuade my young lad not to!
Yes, he totally ignored his auld fella!
Yes, he loves it, despite everything
Yes, I've driven it and can see the appeal :D:D

I do work to my car in a friends shed, he's 3 RX-8's and not one has a Mazda engine. One has a 2jz, one has a SAAB engine and the other has no engine at all.

That'll tell you everything you need to know.

This is a rare bird, 2.0 T Spirit avensis estate, only tested til January, nice spec, €1300

Would I be right in saying this is about 150 bhp?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,287 ✭✭✭Ferris

Mine was super reliable, but it had been minded by the previous owner and I sold it 5yrs ago too. Now, I would buy one with no rust and in need of a rebuild and take it to shadow rotary but we’re getting out of bangernomics territory.

I still might however, they’re fantastic cars, also cannot fail an NCT on emissions.....

Nice clean looking example and something a bit different with the colour also
Seems they are rated around 145-150bhp alright

Didn't know that. They so bad at polluting they don't even bother to test them. :pac:

Basically 😁! No chance of passing, petrol and engine oil being burnt and fired out the exhaust.

Few caveats on those. They’re the D-4 engine, so are direct injection. They’re quite noisy and I don’t think they’d figured out how to prevent carbon deposits at that stage. You’d want to be sure it was idling properly and starting on the button.

Nice car for the money though, and a rare colour too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,454 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Just to add. That car has been in Ireland since it was only a few years old. Clare imports on the silly numbers start at 9000.

The ad says that it's a petrol. Quite rare in 2.0 form I'd imagine

Rev counter suggests it's petrol but is that a 2L TDI badge on the wing?

    It’s a 2.0 D-4 (petrol)

As opposed to a D-4D, which is diesel

Super rare in Ireland anyway. We only ever sold one, which was a Sol with Luxury pack, at the time it was Camry money. Nicer car than a Camry though.

The badge should say 2.0 VVT-i. Engine cover should say D-4 VVT-i because it’s direct injection, which the 1.6 and 1.8 weren’t.

I had never heard of a D-4 petrol, I thought all the Toyota D-4 engines were diesel.

You learn something new everyday! :)
