I’m not driving a mini Metro.

If someone had a garage, kept for classic tax.... Could be an investment.

Although the tax is probably getting near double the price of the car, the car looks spotless, in a nice colour and with no towbar fitted.

It will be still going strong when it's getting into classic tax territory

Just on the wiki page for the Rover Metro. Never available with ABS or power steering however you could instead have the "Standard wood veneer dashboard inserts, a tinted glass sunroof and the optional wood veneer door cappings", making it indeed a Rover..

Bookmarked that one earlier. It's as good as they come in Bangernomics really. Taxed until end of May next year and with the Covid extension, it's NCT is until May also. Drive it until then and flog it on for as much as you can get ;)

NCT til July 2021, tax til October, 40k miles, €900

Not sure anyone is going to spend the guts of a grand on a Metro, but it looks nice!

As you know yourself, I used to be all over small cars like these too...
That was until somebody pointed out the crash test on the Seicento. Just looked at the one on the Rover 100 now too, and that was NEWER than the Metro! All I can say is yikes!

Everytime I see a metro pop up here i always think to the first time they released EuroNCAP videos back in the day and I will never forget the metro. I actually shudder when I see them. I shuddered when that post went up earlier!

It's a Carisma. They even looked stupid in silver and black.

And that's pretty hard to do tbf to it and Mitsubishi.

What chance that the one for sale has a driver airbag ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 809 ✭✭✭filbert the fox

those dummies are brutal drivers - haven't seen one yet that didn't crash - and no tyre marks either!!

Prior to air bag, procon 10 was an amazing system that still has a place

Indeed. Fascinating stuff. Has it been completely superseded by airbags?

    TIL2 :)

I would assume that the Airbag technology has become so reliable and efficient that there is no need to add anything else here (I mean economies of scale etc as well). Combined with and the Procon 10 possibly bringing more limitations (in terms of cable routing and engine placement) it would probably have been completely superseded by now.

But I am guessing here - I only read about it for the firs time an hour ago!

    Just to be pedantic - it’s “procon-ten”

    The ‘ten’ meaning tension.

Seatbelt pretensioners made the system obselete.

    The cool kids use a 10 :D

Nah cheers, both points make sense.

Procon-ten sounds like a strain of coronavirus these days.

I actually had assumed that they were also in the vehicles in question as well.

Everyday's a school day on Motors.

In the crash video, the airbag was useless. The dummy was thrown past it and it offered no protection for the driver.

The passenger had no airbag, but then, the crash was on the other side so it did not matter so much. :)

I have decided these old cars are death traps in a crash - particularly if rust had weakened their structure.

Seicento had similar rating to BMW series 3 of that vintage.

Iirc Renault was leading in the safety at that time, Volvo probably, too.

The rest was mostly bad. Or really bad.

Most bangeromics posted here will be more modern, but you still can't vouch for the safety system to be working correctly.

Many people resetting airbag light etc. And even if there is no fault they are recommended to be checked every 10 years. I doubt there was a single check done on this item on any car.

Seen few accidents where airbags didn't deploy at all on some shows.

Best advice is not to crash into things ;)

No matter how safe the car is.

Badly stuck for a cheap runabout while work being done on my car.
The no garuentee thing has me worried..
Would it be worth the risk duke? Cheers

What guarantee are you expecting from someone selling a €350 car? Make sure it starts, runs and stops right, steers straight, doesn't burn or leaks oil, doesn't over heat and isn't rusting. Have it checked over by someone who knows their way around cars failing that.

No matter how safe the car is.

The Laguna II was the first car to get a 5 star EuroNCAP rating. Renault focussed on safety as their USP at the time trying to take the mantle from Volvo.
