Tbh im also wondering why it hasn't sold yet.

Petrol, auto, high tax, nothing going for it really. Lots of people don't like cream interiors.

In my experience the main reason is that the seller is less than honest - story about car doesn't add up. After that it's usually that the car looks much worse in the flesh than the photos.

But in all fairness it could be that people are just hard low-balling or their expectations are simply too high.

If it was local I'd give it a glance to be sure, but I wouldn't travel for it.

Could be right, wonder if there is anyone close by that could take a look :)

Would the fact that it's being sold with only a month's NCT be a red flag that there might be an untold issue?

I wondered that myself and also the detailing in the ad.. for some reason it gives off a strange vibe.

It was also price slashed by 33% on a 2200 euro car

    That's panic selling if anything

1500 e is a very good price if alls good

I'm curious how that seller (who has other cars for sale so isn't a novice) can make anything from that car at that asking price considering how much the car owes them given the claim it recently got a new timing belt & water pump, clutch and flywheel. You would spend well over 1k for all that work even from an indy plus he had to buy the car.

Maybe the previous owner did the work?

The whole point of buying a cheap bangernomics car is generally to get something hassle free that you can just get in and go, and having to book an nct on the day you buy it is not most peoples idea of hassle free. I think the majority are looking for at least 6 months of not having to do anything with it.

But the advert says they were just fitted so even if the previous owner had the work done just before selling how much did they get for the car over what they paid for the work? And if the current seller is making money from selling it on at that price they must have bought it a bit cheaper then. It just doesn't add up to me unless they got the parts fitted for next to nothing.

I didnt see that - but yeah, you are right. A months NCT is nothing, without at least 6 months NCT its practically worthless (unless you want a fixerupper)

I took a look. Genuine seller imo, nice guy.
A few electric gremlins and short NCT turned me away. If you are handy or familiar with fixing them, could still be worth a punt. I don't have the time or expertise

    Sorry, mad day

Interior light didnt work, not a biggie
driver electric seat didnt work, bit of a biggie
passenger window electric not working, bit of a biggie

track rod end and bushing needed on the front

Thats just from my limited knowledge. Interior was perfect, previous owner was his dad. Nice guy, genuine.

If you are handy with electrics then it was a good buy, I just dont have the time to sort the issues.

Ah and that's why there wasn't a test put on it.
The seller wrote to me anyway about half an hour afterwards to say the car was sold so someone either got a good one or it will be up on donedeal in October for 2.5k :)

Don't take this the wrong way - I'm not having a go at you.

However you want a quick sale but you put up photos of the car that use less than 25% of the space available to you for a photo.

Instead of making things easier for a potential buyer you are just making it easier for them to skip your ad and go to another one where they don't have to squint to view the car.

Not the 1.6, engine from an Escort. Nor the 1.4

    The 1.7 will be

Funnily enough Ford actually considered the Puma to be the successor to the Capri

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,447 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Any where the metal survives surely will be.
I suppose any old car could be a classic, but the Puma and Seicento will both be sought after classics!

Bit pricey at €1675 but looks nice. 1 month warranty too!

I thought the Probe was their successor, which was then followed by the Cougar?

Yeah, but they were massive flops. The Puma, much like the Capri, was created by taking one of their bread and butter cars (the Fiesta) and putting it in a pretty frock. That was the idea behind the Capri back in the mid/late 60s, and I suppose you could argue the same idea resulted in the earlier Consul Capri, and it worked quite well.

The Probe and Cougar were transatlantic Fords and just didn't feel or drive anything like the Capri.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 433 ✭✭Dia_Anseo

The Puma was never like the Capri nor was it supposed to be!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,978 ✭✭✭Rows Grower

How dare ye take the name of the Capri in vain.

"Very soon we are going to Mars. You wouldn't have been going to Mars if my opponent won, that I can tell you. You wouldn't even be thinking about it."

    Donald Trump, March 13th 2018.

By the end of the Capris production run, nobody wanted a car that was like a Capri anymore. The Probe, the Cougar and the Puma weren't supposed to mimic what the Capri was, they were supposed to fill the gap in that segment.

Read any literature from Ford on the Puma, it was a successor to the Capri...in Ford's eyes at least.
