Ran one for 6-9 months and at the time it was pretty much my affordable dream car ...18k ish new was plain stupid but i dropped a bit under half that on a fresh one . It had a very solidly built feel ,real quality like a post 2006 Yaris /Golf etc ...heavy door clunk ,door handles that didnt feel as if you could rip them off -unlike many cars eg latest Quashquai .Alas for a Fiat fan that was largely where the positives end .OK so it could handle a 45mph/70kmh sweeping bend in a pretty impressive fashion as well .The subwoofer under the drivers seat was cool too

Here comes the rant :-( It ATE petrol on my two hour mixed -but plenty of motorway and very little urban-commute .The best I ever got was 43mpg and the worst about 36/37 so averaged 40/41 .For what it is this was unacceptable to me and I sold it inevitably losing around a couple of grand .A 2 litre Gti getting that(or even 106GTi etc-Sure i used get 40mpg plus in my aul Kadett GSi 16v which was a sub7 sec car ) is ok but a 1.4 litre 9 to 10 second 0-60 car ?!No thanks. The poor mpg was due to the stupidly low sixth gear which completely spoiled the car for me -3600rpm at 75? .It completely lacked the hooligan feel of the 1.1 Panda (and most other small Fiats eg 'centos)and would just 'plough on' on roundabouts which are normally a good test of cars tight handling .Some suggested I had a bad one but it was on good tyres and was laser tracked .(It would loose tracking at the sight of a pothole !)I had a loaner 1.1 Panda when it was in having a new sump after hitting a small grapefruit sized rock -it was LOW -and i didnt want to swap back .A standard Panda will delight on a wet roundabout carving a perfect track around it even if the wheels are spinning most of the way round .

The thing most hated about these is the tungsten(concrete would have been cosy relatively speaking!) hard rear suspension .Every speed ramp was a spine cruncher .(Ive driven all manner of low hard stuff eg lowered MX5 but this was plain stupid hard )
The 1.4 16v engine was just plain boring giving neither low down torque or red line urge instead just a 4500rpm gentle shove .
Now most rave about these and one driving instructor even speaks of passing a Ferrari 355 on a trackday in one .But it left me cold and broke in 2011 .My wife even reckons it shares the blame with Lehman Brothers for causing the recession .
Having said that at 1850 Im ALMOST tempted to not learn from my mistakes .Mind you it could be due a second pricey timing belt at 113k and I dont think the bushings were that tough either although I think theres a UK one on 150k miles plus .
Eh I think that covers it .Any questions ?!:-)

Scaldy tax but it looks beautiful.

Fiesta is poverty spec and seen a bit of thrashing but probably a decent enough little car if it drives ok, if the clutch isn't hanging, what much wlse could go wrong. You wont get many 2011 diesel yokes in this thread with 2 years test for €1500.

KE reg with all the ambulance gear in the background though, hardly a training vehicle of some kind for the national ambulance? That might be a different story.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,215 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

That Fiesta has 195k miles on the clock according to the NCT cert photo, not 195k km as stated in the advert. It also had an engine replacement. I have my suspicions as usually this a very good reason why something like that appears to be a bargain.

Remember driving a pre learning school Micra with dualpedals, we would take turns driving and swapping control.....

    How we didn't wreck it

Weird to see a car where the passenger seat has more wear!

I'm flogging that for my sister in law.

It's a good honest car, the kind that has always just been dropped to the garage yearly to do what was needed, no questions asked. 3 of the owners are the same family, and I know one of the other previous owners too.

It's taxed, NCT'd and has more than half a tank of juice too.

Would there be any insurance implications having that dual control gear fitted?

    Fairly substantial modification.

    Yes

I know they could be removed. Just wondering if running with them would be an insurance issue.

It's not necessarily an engine swap. The 2l Diesel engine in the mk4 Mondeo and Mk2 Focus was designed and built by Peugeot. It's considered a far better engine than Ford's own oil burners of that era, (like the 1.8l with the wet belt the costs $$$ to change). That's probably the message the seller is trying to get across.

you would have to declare them as a modification. An insurance company would be very curious as to why you want to keep them.

    I was thinking that myself.

Just imagine what might happen if you were giving someone a lift home after they had a few pints and they applied the brakes putting you into a skid.

You crash into another car causing thousands of euro damage. The assessor comes out and finds the dual control. Won't end well.

This looks nice, 2.0T (210 bhp?) 9-3 estate with low miles and NCT til May 2021, €1999

Slightly longer NCT would be ideal at this money but hardly a deal breaker if you're in the market for one of these
