Diesel automatic Octavia with test til February 2022, €675

    Huge mileage obviously, but cheap.

Well spec'd Octavia 4x4 estate, NCT til December, €2000

Not sure what its 4x4 capabilities will be like, but an interesting looking yoke nonetheless

You wouldn't be taking to the fields or anything but handy for Winter roads.

Some of them were used as out of hour doctor service "Doc" cars. That one has two aerials so might be one of them.

Proper winter tyres would make it very sure footed, it's supposed to be a good system they use.

Low mileage (166k kms)Volvo s40, NCT to March 2022 and tax until May. 1760. Maybe down to 1550-1600 with bargaining?

How can he give a warranty on the engine and gearbox if they're leaving the country with their family?

They bought it 01/12/2020, so I'm assuming that there's a dealer warranty, that they're assuming will transfer over, but tbh I'd want that confirmation from the dealer, as said warranty may only be for the person that they sold the car to.

Engine bay looks too clean. I distrust very clean engine bays.

Also, "Trade-in Considered" and "moving to another country with family" doesn't really add up, so I'm wondering if he's found a problem that will cost alot further down the road.

Popular enough car for people that hunt or fish, you're right it's well able to handle rugged enough conditions with the right tyres.

Bangernomics family wagon 09 Scudo with fresh test til December, €1600

From a dealer with a money back guarantee no less. Tax is surprisingly expensive

with that mileage and that tax it must be nearly saleproof.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

True, but I suppose if you specifically need something with that much space or so many seats, and you're on a budget, it'll have to do!

I paid 1200 tax on my last vehicle. It was painful.

Has to have been a taxi. Practically unsaleable I'd imagine.

Perfect van conversion or even dodgy crewcab conversion if ya could swing one still.

2000kg towing capacity on them, decent engine and not awful on fuel either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

What is the story with crew cabs now? I know it would fall outside of the bangernomics parameters, but would that not legibly qualify?

If not bad on fuel how the hell is tax €1200

It might actually be possible to legally crewcab it considering its a van I'm not fully sure. The measurements are supposed to be taken using some sort of laser job now and the loadspace and rear hatch opening has to be a certain percentage of the overall interior space.

And none of the usual passenger 4x4s can pass this now if it's done properly. Still plenty supposedly offering the service. Some fella reckoned the passenger nissan patrol could meet the criteria I dunno what ever became of that though.

Factory built crewcab landcruisers and discoveries etc were and are still fine to be sold new however for some reason and then there was those 4 seater commercial ford kugas too. It's all pretty confusing and full of contradictions from what I've seen.

Now not bad in terms of van type things from that era, but old enough style engine in a fairly big lump of a yoke is a good recipe for high co2 based tax.

Is it still an absolute nightmare to convert something like that to a camper? I'm on the lookout for something like this but hadn't considered this before.

Is it still an absolute nightmare to convert something like that to a camper? I'm on the lookout for something like this but hadn't considered this before.

Insurance is tricky on low roof campers, a pop top for that will likely cost a bit more than a VW because they're less popular so less options, still only a few hundred € in the difference. There'd almost certainly be no VRT for the conversion unless it was registered under some kind of VRT exemption. After that you just have to consider the mileage and condition.

Looks alright in the pictures. Biennial NCTs suggests it wasn't a PSV. Respectable car for not a lot of money
