There aren't many of those around now that aren't drove into the ground or rusted to bits and they were a great simple reliable car and easy to work on too

    Very true....

Funny it brings me back as I use to buy heaps to rally, funny thing is got a lovely 91 fiesta full body kit with the double fogs, rallied in field for 4 weeks, it had good test and tax sold for profit.

The Volvo 2.4 rear wheel drive ex doctor car with every extra you could tick was absolutely smashing till a tree got in the way...

Personally I don't get what the obsession was at the time and still apparent obsession is with them Mark III Polo's. I acquired one once for a couple of months and just found it shockingly bad and an inferior product compared to the then equivalent Toyota/ Nissan/ Ford of the time. I know these are city cars but by comparison it seemed downright dangerous to drive at 100 kph also.

Granted they looked fairly smart for their time but I can't see them having much extra going for them.

Nice clean Octavia Estate here. 1.6 Petrol, low mileage, NCT until April next year. If all checks out, not a bad looking car.

Might be worth throwing 3 months tax on it to attract more buyers.

I'm always wary of cars that look bad in the photos - they tend to be infinitely worse in the flesh. Plus, he has my #1 red flag: "no timewaters" This guy has dealt with a lot of disappointment when people view it.

But a 2.4 diesel at 1.6 tax for 1.1 money makes it worth the look if that's what you need.

Edit: actually looking at it again it's not that bad looking.

Not surprisingly he doesn't want anyone wasting his time seeing as he's got 15 other cars listed, must be a busy man!

He would appear to be saving cars from the breakers and then selling them on, I would run a mile.

I just realised that I know the seller of that S80. He isn't buying cars directly out of breakers yards if that is what you are implying. He sells cars that dealers wouldn't exactly sell off of their forecourts

I'm don't think there is anything wrong with that either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,733 ✭✭✭tnegun

Thats fair enough if you know him but being an off the books dealer and the other ads would have me running or at least very sceptical is all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,079 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

Personally unless I’m spending close to five figures I’m not really concerned about the seller, what he does or if he’s a dealer etc. Eyes wide open if course, but if the car fits the bill I’ll but it

Personally, I'd pass on any Fiat Panda's on offer.....worked for awhile in a company which ran a large body shop as part of the business, and they had a few Panda's in the fleet. So I saw at first hand what effect even a small shunt had on them, so Thanks, but no Thanks. But not every one has had the same experience with them, so if they take your fancy, go right ahead !!! ;)

There’s something so honest about a 320d with amber indicators.

I’d love that. I have no room or use for it though.

Is that a Padre Pio sticker I see in the bottom left hand corner of the windscreen too? Another hallmark of a good car :D

They're a great machine when working well. Do near anything a full size 4x4 would do, very good towing capacity and not awful on diesel either if driven handy.

Expensive problems can crop up but at a grand clean ones are worth a punt imo.

A lot of the older ones are starting to die. I know quite a few people that had them for towing and ended up with massive issues. Several needed engine replacements, which were not economical to repair. Crankshaft bolts tend to break.

I think there were several class action suits in the US over them throughout the years.
