Is there anything to watch out for in a petrol accord

    Thinking of getting one

    What year?

Usually fairly alright but found them BV quite thirsty to be honest.

Civic 1.8 would be a better buy imo

Ya that or the civic, nothing specific yet but bangernomics territory

Which is the civic the boy racers have?

Spotless 2002 Accord. Too bad I'm not in a marked for bangernomics.
I'd take that in a heartbeat. Interior is like brand new. Apart from being very hard to insure, anything else that could be wrong? Looks very well minded.

Price is a bit saucy I would have thought, regardless of condition.

Prices for early gerMINIs seem to have hit rock bottom. Toying with the idea of getting one as a play thing if I could get it on a classic policy.

A 2004 Cooper here with a fresh NCT for less than €700, might take a bit of negotiation on the classic policy at just under 16 years
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/mini-cooper/23479640

A 2002 One, again with a short but recent NCT for €550, getting closer to the 20 year mark for the classic policy
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/new-nct-mini-one/23214349

I think the earliest examples were 2001, am I deluded in thinking these have to start picking up in value when they're over 20 years old?

They have to get rare first. Then they go up in value.

First step in rarity is rock bottom value, then the scrap yards call, even if there's life left in them

Aren't they supposed to be troublesome the minis

If it's all intact after nearly 20 years of service, it'll either have been fixed already or it'll have been one of the good ones. Everything has a risk at that age but it won't be to do with issues from the factory.

    Too expensive, but lovely!

The SRi models were quick enough cars.

I have a mate with a few of the “new” minis. He told me , something like this; Early ones had a good 1.6 engine but a midland box which isn’t much use. Then there’s a period the midland box was replaced by a getrag box and you still had the good engine. I think about 2004 this happened. Then the good engine was replaced. Not sure when .

So looks like there’s a sweet period with good box and engine. I guess if you’re thinking of getting one a bit of research would be worthwhile.

    That is so BMW.

That's pretty much the summary. Between 04 and 07 you have decent little car. In 07 the 1.6 got replaced with 1.4. Same one as Peugeot 207 after 08. On demand coolant and oil pumps on some of them, some of the valve seats fall out, the chains stretch, heads crack, vanos give trouble, valvetronic issues etc.
Responsive little engine while it works but it's like opening a can of worms when something goes wrong.
I'm sure it got all rectified couple years after, but 07 is the newest one I ever had, so have had no experience with newer ones.

God awful car, 0-100 in about a minute, brother had one and had issues with gearbox and xenon lights. It had low mileage and was well looked after. Got rid of it after that.

Jaysus, that Accord has been up for offers more often than Katie Price.

    E92 320i with NCT til September 2020, €1950

Probably an absolute minefield, but a nice bit of flash for the cash. I don't think we've had one of these in here before

2011 Megane estate, NCT til January 2021, tax til June, claimed low miles, €1995

I see a bit of a mark on the driver's wing, but even still its a fresh enough car for not a lot of money

Tested for a year, tax til February, diesel, hasn't had a load of owners, €1900

I'd say its a clean enough car under the dirt, original floor mats are a good sign after 200k miles. I'd love this

I'd there anyway of checking the mileage' on these cars

Old NCT certs if they are present, or service history.

    Otherwise, not really

That’s about all they’re worth to be honest, especially in bog spec like that one.

Manual with cloth interior doesn't help it either. If you could tidy up the exterior and find a leather interior, it would spruce it up.

Had 190k km back in February as per the nct disc

    I didn't know the e92 320i had a turbo?

'Mint' in an ad puts me off

    'Long NCT' is another one

They seem to be roadside dealer words

Yeah it's feasible it's only covered 18k KLM since last nct.
