You could be forgiven for thinking that there is no racing today as the second Monday is usually a rest day. But today the peloton face another bumpy transition stage. With the sprinters taking it easy yesterday, expect them to contest the finish today.

The GC teams are fearful of crosswinds and potential splits in the peloton

    I love an echelon

Splits, Uran in the second group and possibly Pinot.

EDIT: Fuglsang and Porte there too.

    HTF did that happen?
    Where's Dan?

Dan looks to be there in the leading group, missed it happening but EF were trying to drive it on in and then somehow got caught out in the back when the split happened.

15km to go, the gap is 23 seconds and the leaders in the second group have used up most of their team.

Up to 28 seconds as I type.

Is Dan is the leading group? UAE were doing a lot of chasing

TDF site says he is in front pelton...
    https://racecenter.letour.fr/#/stageprofile

If you click on #1 Pelton, it gives you list of riders in that group in a popup window.

Just saw him number 121 in that front group with 2 team mates with him.

That should do Dan a lot of good.
    Top 10 on GC?

    Up to 9th it seems.

Dan is 2'32" back from Juilian Alaphilippe and 1'20" back from Geraint Thomas. Is it realistic that Alaphilippe is the target or will he fade away and dan is really chasing Tomas (or next best for a potential podium)

WvA went early there and beating that kind of company in his tour debut is something. Good on the lad.

Alaphilippe will eventually fade when they get to the high mountains so Dan is really chasing Thomas

Only 1.20 off Thomas at this stage is a pretty good situation for Dan, he has to be pleased.

Team Time Trial is pretty much the difference between Thomas/Bernal and Quintana and Martin. How much time can Thomas gain on the TT stage next week and how many stages are there for others to maybe eat into that minute so far?

Official site has him 57 seconds back on GT.

Dan was quite candid and relaxed in the interview on Eurosport, clearly happy to be in the position he is currently and looking forward to the pyrenees. Surprised Dan Lloyd didn't have a go at him over the white shorts though.

Even 15-20 minutes after the stage had ended he didn't realise the extent of the time gaps back to Pinot Fuglsang etc. he thought it was only around the minute mark.

Matthews will be sickened looking back on the sprint, the only rider with a leadout and he waits too long to open up his sprint and gets swarmed

Dan Martin is in a great position for a podium ( his goal) but to beat Thomas and Ineos is a big ask ..the team is sooooo strong

So Dan's rivals were the guys caught out today and Steven Kruijswijk /Yates imo

So all good really ...he seemed like a happy man talking to Sean Kelly

Here is Dan & Sean in the breakaway

You'd think Dan, Aru and Henao could surely have it in them to light it up in the mountains. They don't seem to function as well as a team unit, but if they could get it together, who knows.

Aru,Costa & Henao dont seem to be the most gelled group of people

Havent seen Aru do any domestique work yet ...seemed to be up there on GC for most of this week but gone now

It was a crash that did for Landa, didn't see it or hear it mentioned on Eurosport

So thats how he ended up in the Ciccone group.

Poor Pinot and Porte. Never get any luck in this race .

Crashing or being caught behind a crash can be bad luck indeed but being poorly placed amd missing a split when the wind conditions are well known is inexcusable for a top pro rider with podium aspirations and should not be misconstrued as bad luck.

On echelons, there is something beautiful to watch them at work and seeing the yellow jersey at the front of an echelon hammering it is a great sight.

Looks like Landa was taken out by an AG2R rider - video in link below:

Always thought porte was overrated as a leader and gc contender. Being a top super domestique does not make you a potential winner

It was Warren Barguil who made contact with Landa.

Barguil touched wheels with Alaphilippe, then collided into Landa.

I hope those spectators are okay!
