    Funny how we placed such importance on protecting the life of the unborn. Yet the living can be murdered with seeming impunity.

    None of this post makes any sense. How are you connecting abortion with this murder? And who has been murdered with “impunity”???!?

    That's exactly what messageboards like this want. New members signing up in their droves. I'm delighted for Boards.ie

    The chap Willie Maughan and his Lativan? girlfriend who were murdered and dissappeared, does anyone know the background to this? Was Maughan a player on one side who crossed someone in Gormanstown? Why kill his girlfriend too?

    Could it be just the case that he fire bombed the wrong criminals house and they extracted revenge in the most barbaric way imaginable he was up in court for it so it was well known he was doing it and there were a lot of houses that were attacked, I don't buy this nonsense that they were just sending out a message to other dealers they aren't that contrived this sounds like a well orchestrated murder and wasn't just some random henchman that was targeted.

    Word I'm getting locally is he was involved in Keith brannigans murder. And that's not from some fella down the chipper.

    Truth is he was involved in to much . He could of been involved in brannigans, carberry, he could of been present for the video of ruthless , he was involved in extortion, intimidation and supposedly linked to other gangs not just drogheda . It was probably only a matter of time something happened to this young lad.

    Absolutely. For what I know he definitely did I've zero sympathy. My point was it would offer more of a motive than robbing sliders or even being who he was. Its a definite line of enquiry anyhow, got that from the horses mouth.

    Any info on the arrests made last night?

    Any info on the arrests made last night?
    AFAIK there has been no official confirmation of any arrests and is so who was arrested.

    In the absence of a reliable source can posters not refer to possible suspects

    To be clear, other social media outlets are not reliable sources (and indeed rumours can originate from other sites such as this one, making any corroborating "evidence" circular)

    Please see Niamh's warning copied into the OP for further details

    I will shortly remove references made last night and subsequently that do identify (directly or indirectly) people who may have been arrested

    The compound in Gormanstown sounds like quite the operation with the Council too scared to go in there and evict. Article says it is full of caravans and like a small village of criminals living inside it. Also says that they placed spikes in the tarmac of the road outside it and 11 Garda cars ended up with punctures before they found where the spikes were.
    An evil gangster who murdered a young couple is building his own crime compound — and council officials are too frightened to face him down over it, it has emerged. Sources have told The Star that a senior garda made a direct appeal to a local council to evict people the criminal had housed on his land — but they refused.

    “The council was told gardai would go in with them, but they refused to get involved, they were too frightened,” a senior source told The Star. A Star investigation into the criminal — who is now a suspect in three gruesome murders — has found that:

    Gardai fear he is trying to turn his land into a no-go area for officers;
    Officers only venture onto it if they are supported by armed detectives;
    The thug has disabled 11 different garda cars that tried to patrol close to his land and;
    He tried to run one officer down — on the grounds of a garda station.
    The man, who is based in the greater Leinster area, is now regarded as one of the most dangerous and unstable criminals in the country.

    Officers are satisfied he beat missing man Willie Maughan to death in April 2015 before brutally murdering the Dubliner’s partner Ana Varslavane because she had witnessed the killing. They also believe he ordered the murder of Benny Whitehouse (35) in Balbriggan in late 2014.
    But as well as those killings, he has built up a fearsome reputation for violence — and intimidation. Sources have told The Star that the criminal has bought land in the Leinster area and has recently allowed numerous caravans to pitch up there.

    Gardai believe the site has become a so-called criminal enclave — with residents involved in a range of different offences, including theft and violence.

    The attack is two pronged so as they know the guards and council will now be forced to act on this and dismantle the place. Wouldn’t be surprised if the army were brought in.

    I doubt he is afraid of the army - they are his next door neighbours.

    Surely those guys must have been covered with forensics. Gunshot residue, footprints and soil samples matching the yard.

    CP is the owner of the yard so council would have no right to go in to evict

    Don’t want to drag the thread off topic but this beggars belief, earning thousands terrorising the neighbourhood and the ****ing council are putting him up.
