For 1440p @ 60Hz you don't need to spend mad money.

Above is a little overkill on SSD & RAM - feel free to drop to 1Tb/2x8Gb respectively.

Next step up would be RTX 2060 Super/2070 or RX 5700.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I would say 32GB is totally overkilling it, and a 1660Ti is very underkill!

With a 1440P monitor, RTX2060 Super or RX5700XT would be my minimums on that budget, you'd still be way below your set budget but no point throwing money at it really beyond that unless you really want to.

Everything else I'd agree with though. 2600 is an incredible CPU for the price for 60hz gaming. You also may not need a 2TB SSD/4TB HDD so only you can decide that part. But better to use the SSD for Windows/apps/games, and the HDD for storage for everything else.

to be honest im ok with overkill, granted i dont want to spend more than i have to but i dont want to have to upgrade it again for a while, i suppose i should mention also i prefer intel to amd, was considering an i9 build with an rtx card but am wary of not having the correct psu or having conflicts etc.

that being said im new to this so want to keep it simple as well, so definetly no rgb nonsense in case i burn my house down.

genuinely appreciate all help you guys are offering also.

The only times you'd need an i9 is if you're trying to run a 240Hz monitor, or 1440p 165Hz.
Any other monitor you'd literally be wasting money. :pac:

A higher spec build with a new monitor to take advantage of it. I wouldn't bother with intel at this stage unless going for an ultra high end build. I would wait for 5700xt's with better coolers coming next month though. The cpu cooler is gigantic as well, not sure if it will fit the case but it's 1 of the best coolers on the market. Beats out most of the AIO's in temps and nosie levels as well.

-Edit- Actually scratch that. Might as well get Ryzen 3000 and x570 with the stock cooler over the expensive Noctua on Ryzen 2000.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I ended up getting a custom build from ccl

Cooler Master MasterBox Q300P Gaming Case
Gigabyte B450M GAMING AMD Socket AM4 Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 3.9GHz Octa Core CPU
    HyperX FURY 8GB (1x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 RAM x4 for 32gb total
Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 120 Liquid CPU Cooler
    Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2 NVMe
Seagate BarraCuda 3TB SATA III 3.5" Hard Drive
    Corsair TX750M 750W Modular 80+ Gold PSU
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080 GAMING 8GB GPU

all for 1900 sterling so over budget a bit but im happy with it.

now heres where im really stumped i want to get a monitor to push 4k and the jargon that goes with it hurts my head, nits, input lag refresh rate ,response rate.

no clue so all advice again super welcome

    Wear well as they say.

Nits is brightness this is only a real issue is you want HDR - but we'll park that for now unless you've another 2K+ to spend.
Refresh and response rate go together. First as high as possible, second as low as possible.
Input lag is the time it take for you to, say, press a button on the mouse and the action happen on screen. Again as low as possible.

4K gaming is great but 1440P is probably the sweet spot. You've more options like higher refresh rate gaming and Ultrawides the latter I personally swear by for immersion.

Another thing to consider is Gsync / Freesync which stop 'tearing' which is basically the top and bottom half of the image going out of sync.

Your build is fine, though it's a little unbalanced for 4K gaming. 4K demands immense GPU power and not so much CPU power; the 2080 will do fine, but the build would be far better for 1440P 144hz.

For example, Ryzen 3600, 2080Ti and 16GB ram would cost similar, and perform a lot better at 4K.

That case is basically an oven. The airflow is atrocious.

Have a look at the cooler master NR400m (I think) if you want an mATX case or maybe the same non m form factor one. Massive airflow and super cooling in them. The NXZT H500 is worth looking at too.

Added to this, the 3800x performs almost exactly the same as the 3700x and is not worth the difference in price.

But you'd be better served buying a 3600 and upgrading the GPU with the saved money or maybe waiting for the 2080 Super that's apparently launching this week. Same price as current 2080 but better performance.

He's already bought the PC guys. All in I don't think he's going to have any troubles at 4k.
I don't know how much you want to spend, so I'm going to recommend my monitor: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-pg279q-rog-swift-27-2560x1440-ips-g-sync-165hz-gaming-widescreen-led-monitor-black-red-mo-088-as.html

Or a more expensive widescreen: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-pg348q-rog-swift-34-3440x1440-ips-g-sync-100hz-gaming-widescreen-curved-led-monitor-mo-089-as.html

Or the "I hate my money, and really want 4k" option: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-pg27uq-rog-swift-27-3840x2160-4k-144hz-g-sync-ips-widescreen-led-gaming-monitor-mo-09q-as.html

Or even "No seriously, f**k money, I want HDR and widescreen and 200Hz": https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-rog-swift-pg35vq-35-3440x1440-200hz-va-g-sync-ultimate-hdr1000-ultra-wide-gaming-monitor-mo-0a5-as.html

But seriously, go to tftcentral.co.uk and look up their reviews and articles. You'll figure it out pretty quick.

Probably overlooked the case a bit now that you point it out, i just liked the aesthetic of it, probably should have researched it a bit more, but live and learn, im cautiously optimistic it will be ok though as it will be placed in an open area which is cool and well ventilated to start with, there is a cpu cooler in the build as well and some extra fans , but if it becomes an issue down the line i can always replace the case if needed. ( hope not though as I really like the way it looks).

Thanks for the tips some sweet looking screens there, I probably want to stay in the 500-700 region to be honest so i/m aware ive a choice between refresh rate or 4k not both.

i'd probably go to a thousand but it would need to be something special tbh(as in a sale price etc) to justify that price jump.

So final update its all here and set up finally, massive thanks to all of you here for pointing me in the right direction of what to look for, greatly appreciated.

got the tower custom from ccl and, it arrived when the said it would and was really well insulated in the box lots of foam around it and foam packaging inside the system to keep everything secured, had one small issue with the activation key from windows missing but the live chat on the website had looked into and emailed me the code within an hour so all in all very happy with them. specs -

Cooler Master MasterBox Q300P Gaming Case
    Gigabyte B450M AORUS M
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 3.9GHz Octa Core CPU
    HyperX FURY 8GB (1x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 RAM x4 for 32gb total

    Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2 NVMe
Seagate BarraCuda 3TB SATA III 3.5" Hard Drive
    Corsair TX750M 750W Modular 80+ Gold PSU
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080 GAMING 8GB GPU

for the monitor i ended up getting the acer predator x34p.

this was the delay first one arrived but had a inch long about 5mm deep gouge into screen and was generally rough really took some abuse, got that returned through amazon but its a long process to get your money back.
2nd one arrived yesterday and is night and day diffwernt huge packaging and well supported in box.

tried out gtav on max settings and from playing it on ps4 all i can say is wow.. you could never go back, i think my trusty ps4 has finnaly been but in the shade.

    so all in system- 2200euro
    panel- 870 euro
