Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'll be there, following on from Cat's reconnaissance visit to Bloom, to catalogue the goings-on in real time and to shout various guttersnipe epithets at our plush-clad emcee in red velour.

One observation/question on today's programme, following on from Duffy's most recent book plug: is this some way of deflecting from his own ’free’ advertisements of his work, by showing that he's also promoting the work of other authors? It's a weak gesture, if so, because there are hundreds of publications of an historical nature vying for public attention, and he's being very selective in those which he's advertising -- the previous author had worked on an RTE documentary.

Strange. He's either deflecting or whetting the public appetite for historical moordors. This content is completely out-of-place on (mar dhea) caller-driven Liveline, regardless.

And certain posters say I’m cynical about Mr. Duffy and his motives....:pac:

Certain posters have been warned by more authoritative mods.

It is bizarre, is it not? Two random book-plugs (concerning historical murders) in two consecutive weeks. I don't think we're exaggerating in observing such a strange coincidece, right on the eve of the release of another book on a similar topic by Duffy himself.

I didn't hear last Friday's programme, where I think a book was also mentioned. That would make it three plugs* and presumably, none of them caller-driven.

*Unless today's plug was the same book as Friday's.

As for all these ones on moaning about the child busking. Call the police and stop this crap of ringing Joe to complain. Gob****es.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 199 ✭✭Conor84

Yeah Friday had another book plug too.

But like rules change all the time on Liveline. Only last week the 16 year old who was at the cinema seeing the couples expressing their devotion for each other was OBVIOUSLY too young to be on the show where 14 year old Busker Ali was fine today.

Always wondered what it was like to be home schooled. Sure we all would have loved that especially if you didn't have to do the Junior Cert. She must have missed out on the CPSE class during her home schooling as Mr Duffy had ro check her on her use of offensive terms.

Was Friday's plug different to today's plug?

If so, that makes 3 book plugs (unsolicited) in 2 weeks.

    Odd.

As someone else remarked here recently (I am stealing your quip) we usually have to wait until Christmas eve to hear about those books nobody else wants to read. So what's Duffy playing at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

Friday's buke was about a postman who was moordered in Waaherford on xmas day back in the mists of time. Joe referenced it today before he moved onto the buke about Fr Philip Eno.

What's the betting RTE have a show coming up about unsolved murders?

Subliminal advertising or "advertising leakage" (c) D4bes. One or the other, cos it's not caller driven.

I haven't had time to comment here much lately due to circumstances beyond my control but I have to make time for this.

First of all nobody seems to have noticed (including Duffy, but the only thing on his EYE-pad is probably recordings of his own shìte) that Radio 1's Doc On One originally aired a programme about the postman murder 10 years ago and it has been repeated at least twice since.
Also, one if not more books have been published about the incident.
Unless this is a reprint why has Joe taken a sudden interest in the subject??

    Addicts fighting over a "Turk-in-ay."

    Child buskers

Students in digs have to remove belongings at weekends to facilitate Air BnB.

Comedy about the famine. Is it too soon.

Something about the rose of Tralee and dog poo on Dublin jerseys.

He corrected the girl yesterday when she called them junkies, started off with “people with a drug addiction” and realising this was a bit long-winded changed to “drug addicts”. “Unwell” would have been a bit of a leap for the teenager on line 1, but I’m quite sure he wanted to use the term.

Theres an ulterior motive for this I'm convinced of it. The versatis epic went on for ages but it actually effected a large number of people. But this is just beyond belief.

The guards are right. No drinking in public. I'm sick of everyone breaking the rules. It remains to be seen if it will be enforced

Dublin local news topic maybe? This show has been now reduced to local pub levels. Do people in tipp or Kerry care?

Ah an eloquent description of the area. Why does he think that this makes it any way relevant to people?
