I'm not entirely convinced this is a bone fide story. The coincidence seems too much.

    Your new here,aren't you.

In 1980 there was a lad in my local pub who had a scar on his leg which he said he had from being shot in 1916. Tourists loved to have their photograph taken with him and take a photograph of the gunshot.......and buy him a pint or two.

Closer to the Liffey was another pub on the Quays where I'd meet a friend of mine after work for a drink and lo and behold this pub had not one but two veterans of 1916 with gunshots wounds on their person and also tourists, photographs and free drink.

Now looking back after all these years, I think they weren't who they say they were at least when it comes to being alive in 1916 never mind getting shot. They all looked mid to late 50's in 1980. Hindsight and all dat.

Even the callers sound bored. How long has this been going on?

    Katie really dragging this out.

Like another poster, I think LL is harder-pressed for callers than we're led to believe

Ten grand's worth of medals wouldn't be going in my bin.

Dung Deal to start with, but possibly Christie's; the Yanks love that stuff.

It's quite depressing when you think of it - Mother nature's final jibe - there's no biological advantage to having an easy death (because then, you're gone anyway) so we've never evolved to have peaceful deaths.

I know some people might but that's the luck of the draw, it's close enough to random.

In fairness to KH, the Production Team has to take the blame for that drivel.

Well its not even drivel exactly, the euthanasia topic was interesting, but the topic seems to have run its course and needs to be laid to rest, sotospeak, at this stage.

Reading the content of this thread, I don't thinks I'm the only one who thinks this Katie Hannon woman is actually a decent broadcaster. Which also gives the lie to the occasional accusation that we the forum users can be too negative or too critical. The lack of criticism of KH (or DO'R) as opposed to Duffy is very interesting.

In de Balkans so to speak, hoping no Gold missed, but far too many nice things here to spend time tending the corpses of broadcasts last and missed.

A song has come into my head, song it loud, sing it slurred (in a salta d’eert accent):

I dreamed I saw Joe Duffy last night,
    Alive in RTE
Says I, "But Joe, you're ten years dead,"
    "I never doyed," says he.
    "I never doyed," says he.

"In Doobalin Joe," says I to him,
    Him standing by a grave,
"They framed you as a broadcaster,"
Says Joe, "But I ain't dead,"
Says Joe, "But I ain't dead."

"The D4bes woman killed you, Joe,
She fired you, Joe," says I.
"Takes more than Forbes to kill a man,"
    Says Joe, "I didn't doy ,"
Says Joe, "I’ll never doy ."

And standing there as big as life
    And piercing with his eyes
Says Joe, "What they forgot to kill
    Went on to organize,
    Went on to organize."

"Joe Duffy ain't dead," he says to me,
    "Joe Duffy ain't never doyed,
Where license payers are out on strike
    Joe Duffy’s at their graveside,
    Joe Duffy’s at their graveside."

    From Ballyer up to Clontarf,
In every bed so fluffy -
Where working men defend their rights
It's there you'll find Joe Duffy,
It's there you'll find Joe Duffy.

I dreamed I saw Joe Duffy last night,
    Alive as you or me
Says I, "But Joe, you're ten years dead",
    "I never doyed," says he.
    "I never doyed," says he.

    You missed nothing.

I was singing that song in my head as I was reading . It reminded me of the night I met Ronnie Drew backstage at a Pogues/Popes gig. I can't remember.

Anyway, I said to Ronnie, "By the way, Luke Kelly was a way better singer than you ever were."

He replied, "Well, it's a good job I'm not depending on c**ts like you to make a living for meself, so."

It was strange that she called it Cabra West rather than just Cabra.

Also Joe's wife from Cabra West.

One caller said he knew Joe's wife.

I was busy at the time and wasn't listening.
