A guy who's originally from my homeplace was convicted of blooding greyhounds in the 1990s. Has also been accused of doping. He's still training greyhounds, no bother to him.

it'd give professional cycling a run for it's money

Half the pet ones are owned by Italians. Anytime I meet them being walked I always pet them, and very often the owner would be Italian. Also you see them in Italy during Christmas wearing their red Santa coats.

When my sister was a vet student in UCD she said all the anatomy specimens were greyhounds. The college couldn't get enough of greyhounds because they were perfect for dissection, due to having almost no fat on their bodies.

It seems not to have occured until any of the professors that there might be something unethical about putting-down perfectly healthy dogs. The situation may since have changed, I don't know.

Pity the vet who used to live upstairs, Dr Katz, isn’t still in residence in my block, she’s a professor there in UCD horse dept.

Yep. She, her husband Barry & son Nathan were lovely neighbours. She offered to mind de cat. As my own vet John Bainbridge said “good name for a vet”.

Speaking of UCD vet Dept, that’s where Irish surgeons learned to transplant livers. They practised it on the pigs first. A relative of mine nursed the pigs afterwards to recovery (or demise & autopsy), said they had tons of painkiller given.

Whenever an ad uses an 'annoying' sound like roadworks, alarm bell, phone etc. to illustrate a point, it just serves to turn me off their product.

She and my sister would know one another quite well. Very interestingly, Dr Katz wasn't exposed to horses growing up, as far as I know, and is now one the foremost experts on certain equine disorders in these islands, whereas lots of vets who were reared with horses often never 'unlearn' the bad habits and old wives' tales that are so pervasive among trainers and riders. Anyway that's a bit of a tangent.

Bit of a wet squib of a show today.

Very wet squib, we are more than deserving of gold sometime soon. I should phone in and protest on behalf of the cat about the terms of cat abuse being used freely and loosely on the show.

In the eyes of Bord na gCon, his only real crime was getting caught.
