Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hard to believe.

There were gazillions of chat forums around in 1999. Plenty of opportunity to find friends; though obviously not 'Facebook Friends'.

That was the true wild west. Mad places! ASL! :P

Yes believe it or not there were social networks and chat rooms around well before Facebook!
Friends Reunited was created in 1999 and went live in 2000.

I’ve been giggling about this one since I read it. I love when that happens in life! I’m just back from a walk and four different times I walked by people fighting the urge to laugh so they wouldn’t think I was laughing at them or that I was a loony. :D It didn’t work, it never does, laughter cannot be suppressed.

This isn't even the worst housing crisis we've had (yet). 60s one had people importing touring caravans to live in along roads in to Dublin, trailer parks as a thing and even longer queues for rental viewings. Just nobody was keeping count to the same extent as now

This thread is full of people who seem to think that 35 years ago is 20 years ago. It isn't. We're all ancient.

I remember being on Usenet groups (rec.music.beatles was a favourite) in 1992, pre-Netscape / browsers. It was all done over a DOS prompt. I use to print the discussions out on a dot matrix printer.

    I still use Usenet

only if you use the most incredibly broad definition (Janitor shoots himself in his car in the carpark? School shooting. Gangland shooting, a stray bullet falls in a playground? School shooting.)

Every week theres an article celeb x gets insulted on social media .
or celeb x posted a photo that has been photoshopped to look more attractive .
News at 11 ,on a service with a billion users ,some people will be rude ,stupid ,sexist and ignorant .
It seems every week theres a headline ,website x has been hacked ,
millions of users data is exposed .
And user data credit card no,s social security no,s etc are exposed,
is it not time there were basic security standards required for any company
that has a million users or more .
Governments and companys with millions of users seem to be awful at basic online security.
Every 2 months theres some article about the awful things the catholic church did, babys been given up for adoption etc
