Not home yet but flashscore has it down as a Hoban OG. Did he take a penalty they were awarded or something?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭tastyt

Looks like a matter of time, they are on a different level really. That's why it was a pity to gift them such a stupid goal.

Hoban doing very well holding it up though

The Qarabag right winger is really fast but he’s struggling with the playing surface big time

    Dundalk doing very poor.

Boyle done well. Attacking players for Dundalk doing poor.

    Qarabag making mince of Dundalk.

    Men against kids...

16 odd million squad against a 1-2 million squad...

As much as it hurts Dundalk are being outclassed by a better team tonight.

  • Registered Users Posts: 177 ✭✭corkboy38

Dundalk have gone backwards massively since Kenny left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

I think Rovers are a better team than Dundalk with the midfield they have.

Jamie McGrath tonight has been really poor.

Will the third round of the Europa/Champions League be in Tallaght?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭Christy Browne

The hyperbole in this thread is gas. Dundalk are suddenly a Sunday League side because they’re losing 1-0 to a team who have been in the Europa League four times and the Champions League once in the last 5 years.

They held Atletico Madrid to two draws a couple of years ago in the Champions League group stage for God sake. A bit of perspective lads....

Technically it should be as a category 3 stadium is needed for the next round but UEFA have often left smaller clubs use their home grounds even if they fail to meet some of the requirements for the category needed.

Have to hold my hands up, Dundalk have been great 2nd half.

Qarabag are pretty useless at defending long balls.

Tie alive . Hoban needed that.

What a second half.....1-1 half way point. Time to give it a go in Baku.....confidence should be high.

Only saw last 30 mins but Dundalk looked good for the draw prob shoulda won in the end ! Great result Defo nothing to lose in Azerbaijan give it a bash!!

Jayus, fair play to Dundalk they could have folded after 5 minutes, but they kept at it and rode thier luck.
That Quarbag side seem like a great team, Dundalk did very well to get the draw
Although that goal Dundalk conceded was a bit soft, which is a bit annoying at the same time.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,815 ✭✭✭D14Rugby

Tough needing to score away but I think any dundalk fan would have taken that result after 5 minutes. Much improved second half

Really good second half performance from Dundalk. Was worried after the first half as they were outclassed by Qarabag but they fought back excellently in the second half and were unlucky not to score a second. Very good match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

Superb 2nd half from Dundalk. Their fitness levels looked better than Qarabag.

Tough next week but still a chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,383 ✭✭✭topmanamillion

Great performance by Dundalk but falling asleep in the first few minutes and not taking one of the chances at the end will probably be the story of the tie.
Pulling off a win or a high score draw in Baku would top anything they achieved in 2016. Qarabag are around Zenits level from them.
Massive ask. But effectively a free shot at it now over there.

Proud of the boys tonight. They could have melted but they kept at it against a very good and technically better team. In the end they could have won it and they scared their more illustrious opponents.
    We done boys.

Missed the first half but Dundalk played very well in the second half. You'd have to worry about the 30° plus heat over there next week.

More importantly it keeps the coefficients ticking over.

Bray have very little quality in attack. McGlade has been a big disappointment for them. Tim Clancy doing a great job at Drogheda. Seems a good club for young players atm. Mark Doyle Conor Kane and Stephen Meaney all having great season. Ciaran Kelly had a good spell their last season and has been one of Pat's better performers this season
Margins are very tight in the First Division this season, Bray have only scored 6 goals less than Shels and only conceded 5 more than Shels. If Bray had signed a goalscoring striker this season thing may have looked different for them.

Fenn's style and system got the best out of McGlade which Cronin's system doesn't. Longford & McGlade not getting a contract sorted last winter was disaster for both as there is no way Longford would have had only scored 26 goals this season and they would likely be neck and neck with Shels for this run-in.

As if you couldn't have enough respect for Con Murphy, he manages to perform tonight with this in the back of his head.

Think the actual gap between us and Longford is bigger than that. More than a McGlade shaped hole.

McGlade is unreal technically but it remains to be seen if he will ever turn that into being a great footballer at LOI level for a sustained period of time. Certainly wouldn’t rule it out because he has the tools.

Their defenders were way above LOI standard. Dundalk might have looked poor but they kept at it, and in the end could have won it.

McGrath easily the most fouled player on the pitch tonight.Outstanding as White Horse says. How he not in the Championship (or better) I don’t know. But great that he’s still at Dundalk.

Yes. McGrath once again very good. His upper body strength has really come on over the last year. Holds off big defenders with ease. Every Dundalk fan who left Oriel Park tonight would have felt nothing but pride watching that game. Outplayed for an hour.

Hung on and then came on strong in the final quarter. Heroes all over the pitch. Only negative for me is the continuing averageness of McEleney. Don't get me wrong, the guy was solid and worked his bollox off but he's missing that sprinkle of stardust that we all know he possesses. You can see he's really trying to make things happen but it's just not working. Hopefully he finds something in second leg. Massive underdogs going over there but to be still in the tie is fantastic. Well done Vinny and the boys.

Dundalk are well able for this level, and capable of progressing. When they had to knuckle down tonight they proved it. If they had of played like that against Riga they would have put it to bed long before ET/penalties. Concentration and positivity/lack of fear of their opposition is needed again next week.

The Dundalk lads were brilliant last night under immense pressure. Great that the tie is still there.

Best of luck to Rovers tonight!

ok the young man wants a Dundalk Jersey

See online only away kids available and as changing supplier no new ones coming in. May have some in their pop up shop at Xmas did have one last year in the Marshes

    Anywhere else Jerseys are available?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 10,797 Mod ✭✭✭✭artanevilla

I'd imagine a few bricks and mortar sports shops in Dundalk would have them.

Good on the young man! It's great to see how many kids can be seen wearing City jerseys over the last couple of years, although this may be less and less the case now that we're s**t :(

Difference in you Zico and most genuine LOI supporters is they are happy to see good performances by Irish teams in Europe. For instance I and most supporters are hopeful Rovers get through to the next round.
