Seeing Decky Devine ask one to leave too was strange.

I think deep down he'd wanted to clobber the wee git, but it's a shame the managers and players had to do it. There simply wasn't enough stewards about to control the situation.

It could have been worse had the scumbags on both sides actually been hard enough to fight each other, rather than just stand shouting 'come on' back and forth.

Glad to hear the Dundalk gits were chanted down on their return to their end of the ground.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,254 ✭✭✭joeysoap

As doncarlos posts scumbags, probably already banned in Oriel? Both teams deserved better. Good match in poor conditions, ref was ok too, couldn’t be blamed for sending off,

    To change subject

Sunday Times has an article on the FAI cup draw. ‘ if the FAI had ducks they’d drown’ and goes on to say how bad the draw was, somebody blocking the camera, no visible team names, no swirling the balls.

I'd imagine it was a great match for neutrals. The unstoppable force against the immovable object kind of stuff. Derry really have the measure of Dundalk this season and again we struggled to break them down. I know Duffy got man of the match but I thought that McNamee was outstanding for Derry. Serious engine on him

Just in Dublin airport here and there's a group of Spanish students ahead of me. Two of them are wearing Shamrocks Rovers tops. Part of me likes the idea of it, most of me hates it.

Well hello everyone! We're back baby!!

Delighted for Shels, that sending off appeared a bit harsh.

Having said I didn’t see the first yellow. The Brennan’s (plural) reputation continues.

Definitely not, he was rightly booked initially and really pushed his luck. Was lucky to last on the pitch as long as he did.

Morris doesn't, Hendo does (both Hendos I believe).

I rolled my eyes when I heard Duffy got MOTM.

But the winner has to come from the winning team.

I thought McNamee was the best player on the pitch last night. When his partner was sent off to leave him chasing that talented Dundalk midfield, his heart must have sank.

But he was sensational. Seemed to pop up at nearly every move or bit of danger that Dundalk created. Was everywhere. Would loved to see his KM covered last night.

Is the stat that I read correct, that of the last 28 games Dundalk have W24 and D4, and all the draws are against Derry?

If so, shows you the great work Devine has done this season after the shambles last year. We have it in our hands to go clear in 3rd now on Friday night. Hope we can play v Bohs with the same intensity.

No love for Eoin Toal? I thought he was excellent at the back. Great penalty from him as well. Only 20 years old as well. :)

But yes, it's great to see Barry back playing so well after we did our best to destroy his soul.

Love Eoin Toal, he has come on amazingly this season.
He too was great last night, and ran McNamee a very close 2nd in terms of best Derry player. I just didn't want to start naming Derry players who played well, would have ended up naming too many.

Considering Dundalk had their 4 main strikers all on at the end, Toal and Gilchrist, plus Coll and McDonagh did fantastically.

As for that kung-fu kick. We seen that guy running towards the Dundalk 'fan'. We were just in the stand in front of him in that picture. My bro spotted his run and said he was going to attack the guy. But what an attack, Bruce Lee kick to the shoulder blades! And this same Dundalk fella had earlier been taken to ground by a younger lad who did a sliding tackle on the wet turf and took the legs from under him.

McNamee was outstanding, Duffy scored a cracker and made the other, hard to disagree with your assessment.

Think its 28 now, including two cup matches. Derry have scored 2 against Dundalk 4 times this year.

I was there, and yes there was a fee scumbags after the final whistle, having a go at City fans. Afaik there was at least one of them charged and fined. I doubt if he paid it though.

57K at the ladies all Ireland football final today.

Anyone that watched any of it will tell you it wasn't the quality on show that brought them there. It was beyond terrible.

Amazing what you can achieve with a proper vision and marketing.

Some games are outstanding, some are useless. Same with every sport.

Some of the finals in recent years have been outstanding and heartbreaking, in particular for Dublin. The vision and marketing was based on that.

In 2014 it was 27000, 31000 in 2015, they have put 30000 on the gate in the space of 4 years.

It has very little to do with the quality of finals in between, more to do with lidl, tg4 and the GAA really pushing and promoting it.

It was really poor. Looked like it might be nil all at half time at one stage. As the above posts all say marketing , marketing, marketing. Something the FAI know fcuk all about.

Dublin being in those finals, losing by a point to Cork, in consecutive finals and then doing a 3 in a row was a huge deciding factor in those attendances.

I very much doubt those attendance figures would be so good had it been Tip, Limerick, Offaly etc in those finals and not Dublin.

It has a huge amount to do with the support Lidl have given to it. They must have kitted out every womens GAA team in the country at this stage. As well as national advertisements and promotion.
The league needs a professional management board to go out and chase these sponsors the same as the GAA have.
At the minute it doesn't even have a person in charge of running it. Alot of people point to Fran Gavin but he's actually director of competitions which means he's in charge of every kick about in the country with an FAI sticker on it.

Ladies Football has dreadful attendances in general though. And it was free in I think? As a one off event though it's pretty good. The FAI Cup final should be trying to do similar.

The FAI cup final is only a tenner. I think the FAI does a decent job of promoting it. RTE are the culprits in my eyes. They've only taken on the league to get the international rights. I think the best thing the FAI could do is release RTE of any obligation to show live league of Ireland. I liked soccer republic before they moved it to highlights only and I think the team behind it did care but those at the top of the food chain despise it.

Still a bit gutted from Saturday night but also very proud. We threw everything at the Dundalk and think we can be pretty happy with holding on for over an hour with 10 men. appointed with our 2 missed penalties, should really be hitting the target.

Poor form by both sets of "fans" but I would question why the stewards hadn't anticipated a pitch invasion happening either. Should have had a line of them at both ends of the southend stand.

Their was max 10 Stewards for 800 Dundalk fans.

What were they meant to do when over 100 ran onto the pitch?

It was an FAI event, so its their fault wasn't more stewards.

In saying all this, If Derry cant guarantee other fans safety when leaving the car park beside the ground (We had to be escorted out on the buses a longer way as kids were wating with stones for the buses) Serious consideration is going to be needed to allow them continue playing games there.

Agreed there should have been more but they could have sent stewards from the Mark Farren stand over too. There was always going to be more need for them over at the other side.

    Two points here.

Where else are Derry going to play?

This was the first bother this year at the Brandywell. And that also includes Institute FC playing their Irish league games there, including the visit of Linfield, Glentoran etc.

And I suggest this wouldn't have happened had Dundalk fans been able to control themselves from invading the pitch and goading Derry fans.

Correct the little scumbags from Dundalk, stated anything that happened the other night.

    Why did it happen previously?

If Derry cant prevent youths in area attacking away fans as they are leaving the Brandywell (or the cops cant prevent it) they shouldn't be playing there.

I don’t think there is a big gap between LOI first div sides and Intermediate sides! crumlin would more than hold their own in the first div they have some good players, players that don’t have to trek halfway around the country on a Friday night so playing with Crumlin suits them otherwise they would be still playing LOI!

Bohs should be more than enough for them however with the injuries this is a banana skin

The EA Sports Cup is an FAI event. The FAI may have passed on responsibility however that does not free them of responsibility. They should have cross checked everything with Derry, end off.

And before you come back...the FAI are specialists at organising security and stewards...plenty of photos of the singing area at the Aviva being overly stewarded or searches home fans underwent entering the Aviva when it fitted into certain peoples agenda.

This is an ongoing debate in Derry, believe me.

Yes, there has been bother outside the Brandywell in the past. But to expect Derry City FC to police the area is a stretch. They have done a lot of good work, as have a lot of local politicians, to try to stop any bother.

No other club in Ireland or the UK would be held responsible for trouble outside their stadium. Once its in the streets of a town or city, its a problem for the forces of law and order. We have the added issue with having the PSNI in the area around the stadium of course, but throwing the blame on to the club is harsh. Who exactly should try to stop wee hoods outside the ground attacking buses or fans? The chairman, the players, the admin staff?

I would have been an advocate for building a new stadium in a more neutral part of town, but that ship has sailed I'm afraid.

And finally, I'll say it again. Had there been no trouble in the ground on Saturday night, I don't think there would have been trouble outside. When young people with drink on board get their blood up, they are hard to stop.
