Any details on the discussions with virgin media for more coverage? Take it that would be from next season

Doubt it, would think it would be this season. It’s not like there’s any huge deal in place at the moment that needs to be ran down.

Given the weather forecast for tomorrow is there any chance of the pitch in Dalymount being unplayable? There is a LOT of rain expected.

Just looking at a detailed forecast here, looks like most of the rain will miss Dublin, and Dalymount doesn't have a history of flooding, I would say at this point it will go ahead but it's the LOI so it'll probably be called off at about 14:05 tomorrow.

There have been a lot of players from outside the league brought in this season, a lot only on loan but it will be interesting to see how they get on. This is probably the most I can remember in one season?

    Dundalk: Patching, Colovic, Smith
    Rovers: Marshall
    Derry: Bakayoko, Lupano, Nielsen
    Pats: King, Rennie, Younger
    Cork: Bossin, Ochieng, Dillon, Dalling
    Sligo: Penningkangas, Seymour
    Waterford: Coote, Smith, Burley, Odimayo

Looking forward to going down the Cross tonight.
Expectations for tonight are high- its only Shels :D

Fully expecting a real change this year from City. Fenn has indeed changed things around big time with the squad, he really had to.
It will of course take time to bed in and start playing like a team and I'm sure the fans will show some patience.
Hoping to be around 6th or 7th by seasons end, but could just as easily be a couple of places lower.
Interesting season ahead either way. First 6 pointer tonight could go either way.

    Leahy and Sloggett for Dundalk.

Looking forward to seeing Dalling for City, seems to be the most exciting of all the new signings. Oluwu seems decent pedigree too. Hopefully Bossin shows lot of consistent solidity in goal, missed that in recent seasons.

As for tonight, could go anyway at all. Could be quick settling team, or it could be the big unfamiliarity with each other showing instantly and conceding a few. Much won't be judged on first few games anyway.

    Leahy and Sloggett for Dundalk.

Leahy signed from Bohs and Sloggett from Derry no?

Didn't know both clubs left the league

Not many goals around tonight. Four 1-0 wins if it stays the same in Ballybofey.

    What were the attendances like?

Attendances will be interesting, definitely seemed less of a buzz about the season starting than previous years, probably just people worn down by the fai shambles and stories like Limerick.

Not much entertainment around tonight either by the sound of it

Cork would normally be a bit chunk of attendances if they were at home too but I doubt many are showing up with the state they’re in now, so that would need to be factored in too.

Unlucky to lost that 1-0. 0-0 would have been a more reflective score. Shels look solid in fairness. The type of match where hard to tell too much really. Was impressed with a few from City, Olowu especially, looks a really good player. Dalling very lively when came on.

Seemed a quiet night all round in the matches. Teams tight not to lose first match I guess.

    Thanks for that.

We are where we are but its a bit disappointing that not one game on the opening weekend can break the 4K Mark.

Heres hoping for a great atmosphere and game tomorrow

Decent game in Cork tonight, Shells edged it for me in terms of chances, post in the 1st, hit the bar in the 2nd and were thru 1 on 1 but a poor finish.

Some positives for city too thou, ochieng, Olowu and Mcglade all looked very comfortable on the ball and will make fine footballers.
Never seen a player get a yellow for rolling onto the pitch from the sideline before!

    Great attendance from Shels

Tomorrow probably could have broke 7k.

For me it's a bad fixture to have first because it will always attract a crowd so you miss out on the bumper opening day.

0-0 was written all over the game tonight. Ball came back off the bar into the right spot for them to score. City look good in places and there is certainly hope for the season ahead, Shels had a good crowd, are compact but will find it equally as tough as the year goes on as City.
City will be bottom of the league for a while due to the next 2 games and tonight's result but I'm a little more confident of possible progress now than I was during last season. Given time I think Fenn will get us back to challenging at the top.

Great crowd of just under 4k considering Valentines night and the rugger around the corner.
Great to be back all the same.

Dundalk struggled to create many chances against a well organised and physically strong Derry side. Derry will do well this season and will over power most sides. The three points is all that mattered and it is nice to start the season with a win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,657 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Thought we were by far the better team in the first half without really creating that much, Cork edged the 2nd and in the end we managed to get the goal in a game that really could have gone either way.

Cork will feel the they could have defo got a result out of that, but I would guess they would probably have been hoping to put their stamp on the game a bit more with home advantage against a probable bottom half rival.

Surprised we changed the lineup so much from the one that won the league last year, especially since we didn’t really lose anyone that we would have been particularly intent on keeping.

Says something about our spirit that I'm kinda disappointed with tonight's defeat.

Devine has instilled a belief again at the club, and that's even with losing the likes of Junior, Parkhouse, McNamee, Sloggett.

Always thought the 1st game of the season would be ideal time to spring a surprise on the champions, but it wasn't to be.

NW derby next week. Hopefully the Brandywell will be buzzing and we can get points on the board.

Its good the refs also think its the #GreatestLeagueInTheWorld

Waterford big and strong witha plan, Pats loads of good players but no plan. king looks very decent.

tv will show the peno decision we didnt get and.......#GreatestLeagueInTheWorld

Just in. Agree with White Horse, Derry were strong tonight and will do overcome most sides. Nielsen looks decent. Smith looked like he might give a fit McEleney competition. Kelly hit the post and Cherrie pulled of a great save before the goal, that said Rogers pulled off a couple of saves. Dundalk denied a couple decent peno claims.

Stadium announcer gave Dane Massey mom , For me it was Andy Boyle but there you go.

Some result for Waterford. Looks like Brian Murphy is back to claim his best keeper in the league mantle.

Very few goals all round again last season.

League is lacking quality attackers last few years.

Thought it was a very poor, very poor technically.

Felt we were marginally the better side, but only just.

Cork were denied a stone wall penalty in the second half at our end. Can't understand how the ref didn't give it. That Cork header in the second half that went wide. Couldn't believe the forward didn't put it away. :o

Didn’t get a proper look at the peno decision but yeah no idea how they didn’t score that header.

It doesn’t help when referees are reluctant to give pens, some clear cut,

Pats fans, Cork fans ( and by an large the media seem to agree) both saying they were denied stonewall penalties. On another nigh Dundalk, different referee, might have been given a pen.
    .
You tube will show if the refs ( who only get one look) were right.

Today’s match will be hairy if it goes ahead or not. Wind will spoil it either way.

Is the Rovers/Bohs game going ahead? Just looking at a social media video from Dalymount and the conditions look a lot more unsafe than it was for the President's Cup that was cancelled last weekend.

Fences and dug outs blown away.

    Ah it should be ok

On another note, Dalymount is brilliant on a Friday night where the darkness hides a lot and under light is a great atmosphere, but its some kip in the cold light of day and storm Dennis!!

Great to get the points last night. We were much better in the second half and deserved the win.
Derry will do well this season. Very impressed with them, Lupano, was excellent until he tired.

Is there still a Premier Division highlight show this season? It’s been quite a while since I’ve had the interest clearly.
