Stiffer Iron Shafts

I always assumed iron shafts were all the same but a couple of people have mentioned stiffer shafts helping them. Have any of you gone for them and, if you did change, what kind of benefits did you see? After getting really good results from a driver fitting I am wondering where else I can improve on the equipment side.
