    Come to Galway!

A cracking spot. Went to see a band in Roisin Dubh a few months ago and it was a bloody great night. Very friendly people in Galway for some reason.

Flannery's from the few times i was dragged there - mind you it was years ago - was awful....packed like sardines and too loud. I'm too old for that sh*t! :D

If it's to be in the Wexford/Camden St area - might I suggest The Bleeding Horse, Solas or Davitts instead?

If elsewhere in town Mulligans on Poolbeg St, O'Neill's on Suffolk St, Bruxelles, Davy Byrnes or Kehoe's all fairly good spots...

I'll be the dashingly suave good looking early 40 something chap drinking non-alcoholic beers.

    Any dates set yet?

I guess we are going to The Roxbury. Venue sorted.

I’m not at all set on Flannery’s, it just happened to be the first place that was suggested.

I’m fine with anywhere on Camden Street/ Wexford Street.

Where’s easiest to reserve a table/ area where we can swap opinions on transgender immigrant leftie Muslims?

    Opium isn't a bad spot.

    Opium isn't a bad spot.

    It's a lovely spot.

The one and only time I was in Flannery's it was to meet a friend's new boyfriend and his mates. The bouncer took one look at me and my friends in our (very ordinary) Saturday night going-out clothes and went "Are you sure yis are in the right place, ladies?"

As I said, GAA jersey central. Those not in their county colours were almost invariably in short-sleeved checked shirts. It was like the Foundry in Carlow had entirely relocated to Dublin.

I've also never seen so many drinks spilled in one place in my entire life. The floor was like the Simpson's bathroom rug. And the beer garden had this weird astro-turfy kind of ground so it was sticky and spongy. If you stood in one place too long you needed a couple of strong mates to pull you off your spot.

Will I sticky this for yis ?

    Go on sure :)

Or, y'know, just go to the Barge. I was at a Boards beers there years ago. Great shout when the weather is nice.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 571 ✭✭✭kikilarue2

    ALRIGHT YOU GUYS!

Revised plan: Cans by the canal. Cheap and cheerful. I’ll be the one with the ridiculously cute puppy.

Anyone who wants to go on to a pub can fight it out about which one in person.

What time are we getting there. I’m going to throw 8pm out there.

Good shout tbh. Let’s see how the bag of cans plan goes down. Or we could easily combine the two.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 13,102 Mod ✭✭✭✭JupiterKid

The Barge sounds pretty good to me...

Best of both worlds - an actual bricks and mortar venue AND cans/drinks by the canal. Win/win! :):D

But what's the weather forecast like for tomorrow evening?

PM each other for phone numbers too?

Capitol Bar was always a good venue for the AH beers. They looked after us with free bubbly too.

    Anyone else?!
I'm in. Cans by the canal actually sounds even better, much reduced noise intrusion, and maybe we can bring our dogs. There's free parking along Dartmouth Square at that time of a weekend evening, if anyone is driving. Dublin bikes stops nearby, so it the Luas, etc.

    Ye olde Outdoor Inn.
and maybe we can bring our dogs.

Now this may be a game-changer...

@Jupiter -- Met Eireann are giving tomorrow night's weather as mild and dry, with showers focused only in the west. Looks like it's going to be a great evening for a boards beers. Oh I love that stretch of the canal, this is very exciting.

It’s... fine. Coppers in pub form.

I actually would love to come along but Like Pat Mustard I keep fathering children and now I have to mind them tomorrow.

It’s not called ‘babysitting’ apparently if they’re your own children. Pffft :pac:

    Cans by the canal....

    Does .... Not ...... Compute

Cultural diversity contradiction overload : Relatively obscure Ancient Grecian referenced username does not consolidate with knacker drinking with a bag of cans on the canal....

Help me. Everything I know is wrong.

The London boards used to have beers meetup a few times a year. But I think the core group moved out of London so that forum kinda died now.

Oh I remember living in London back then, and I never went along to their beers, but they had a great little community going here. Have just gone and checked the UK Forum and sadly, it's all tumbleweed now.

Will ye be chitting in the bushes so? I live in Cork but I might make my way up to have a sniff with a few Q-Tips if ye are. Take a few samples as it were. See how much turf sticks to the cotton, that kind of thing.

Show up with €10 and no bank card.

Keep going on about getting 8 cans of cider for that amount.
