If you think the gas is leaking just light a match close to the leak and you will soon have your answer

That’s how I check, it has never let me down.

Both are electric appliances that do not use gas.
I would think its still a good idea to turn the switch off when not being used.

Your oven and hob are both electrical
No gas feed to either, so I can't understand why your landlord said otherwise.

As a Registered Gas Installer I can categorically confirm that it is Not a Gas Switch..

It could be controlling a gas solenoid, stranger things have happened

And it could be a gas-under-glass hob

The fact that someone posted a 'gas' question under the 'electrical ' forum makes one think that a troll found a keyboard.

Or someone from another country who is unfamiliar with our electrical / gas set up who came on to an electrical forum for advice only to get mocked

Jesus between the state of that oven and complete lack of cop on I'd worry for the OP
