Where will the associated monorail station be located?

Oh that'll be next to Nandos. Just across from Five Guys. It'll be so convenient :D

It’s going into the area that’s currently Arthur’s Quay Park.

I’ve heard that from a very good source.
Be interesting to see if this happens

How on earth would they get planning approval to build there? The most suitable location is the abandoned site adjacent to the Parkway.

No way in hell would they be allowed there, would continue to take away from the city centre.

Ah! Arthur’s Quay Park where all good rumors go to die. There is more chance IO being elected mayor of limerick and replacing the treaty stone with a statue of a swan.

I saw that on the LL facebook. Some people don't understand what the 2030 means, they just assumed it would arrive maybe on the 31st December 2030. :D

If it's in the City centre then likely it will be small like the one in Galway, Clonmel, Athlone or Newbridge. This would be a shame because previously we were dangled the largest Flagship for Parkway Valley.

Ah well, percy pigs will be here soon.

Arthurs Quay SC is being redeveloped. To be finished by 2022. It's being discussed in the Business Opening thread.

M&S will be the anchor tenant. I presume this means Tesco will be closing.

I'm not familiar with M&S stores, but do they ALWAYS have a grocery? If not, and it is a smaller store, they may be focusing on the clothing side. I don't imagine Tesco would move out of the city centre, unless it was losing money hand over fist.

Well the developer mentions no tenant other than M&S. I'd be interested to hear Tescos thoughts on this development. If they're talking about a 2022 opening, you'd be looking at demolition as soon as planning has been granted. That's not much notice.

It wouldn’t be unheard of to have a Tesco and M&S on one site but Arthur’s Quay is too small for that I think.

Anyways as someone who has moved back to Limerick I would be delighted to se them in Limerick but they have to have food. I need to get my Colin caterpillar sweet fix.

How would that work in regards to connecting a new build unit in the park to the existing AQ centre - a skybridge across the road?

I saw a proposal some years ago that apparently is still the only game in town, the owners , MT and another have an agreement with M&S for that location.
That was the only realistic site that was ever discussed in relation to M&S opening a store in Limerick.

My understanding is AQ will be wholly or partly demolished.

Didn't M&S want to make Limerick their flagship store? Arthur's Quay is way too small for that surely, even if Tesco closes (which I doubt) and they move in there.

They're not going in to the existing shopping centre. The store will be in a new building. Most likely incorporating the site of the former tourist office.

...not according to the CEO of Tiernan Properties, speaking today. The existing site will be redeveloped to incorporate M&S, that's all. Talk of a "flagship" outlet may be misleading. It is likely they will sell clothing only.

If it's a multi floor unit (like their Merchant's Quay shop in Cork), then I'd say they can fit their full product range (clothes/food etc). Their food halls can often be quiet small and I believe their food sections are way more profitable and a bigger draw than their clothes so they'd never open a store without a food section. People travel miles for their crumpets...not their knickers! :D

It will be interesting to see how the future state AQ centre will look. I'm pretty sure Tesco will resist any move out of their city centre location so it is a bit puzzling how both an M&S and Tesco and these other new big name retailers they want to attract will all fit in a fairly small land bank....

Great to hear about these plans but has this been confirmed by Marks and Spencer yet?

I don't like any of them to be honest, but those little tubs of crispy bites and rocky road, now that's a different matter entirely. I've tried the Aldi knockoffs but they just don't cut it. Not to mention the fact that they're almost as expensive
