Heard from a girl at the Fleadh the other night that now that Oktoberfest Dublin has been axed, they're trying to move it to Drogheda. Can't find anything about this online though. Anyone hear anything?

It was cancelled due to insurance costs making it not worthwhile. Can't imagine moving it to Drogheda will make any odds.

Some idiots burned the Frank the Sean Nós singer figure on Old Abby lane, noticed one of the others along the dual carriage way is missing a leg now too

They could well do, it's Charlie from the black bull who runs it. Didn't hear anything other than insurance costs. Not convinced it'd work in drogs tbh, October is generally pretty grim weather wise and a large part of their business is work parties, and footfall in Dublin isn't comparable. A weekend maybe but even at that. But who knows, I'll leave it to the pros.

Tonight on the other hand will be a great night, loads of musicians and staff out, the Monday and Tuesday last year were brilliant.

Never been to Oktoberfest so no idea if Drogheda would be suitable. Yer woman just brought it up. She said the insurance was half the cost in Drogheda. She wasn't a local.

It's just one big tent, some food stalls and bits and bobs, it'd all fit into the market. It's good to go once, novelty wears off.

Few great sessions on in town this evening as the musicians bid farewell to Drogheda.
Looks like the Fleadh was a major success for everyone including Comhaltas.
Pity about big Frank being destroyed, heard a few reports about it being an accident etc. All in all with the recent bad press, Drogheda done itself proud well done to everyone involved.
    Roll on Mullingar 2020.

FWIW there was a poster up advertising Oktoberfest down outside The Hops.

Well, I take my hat off to everyone involved in the Fleadh in Drogheda - musicians (in every guise known to man - or woman!) organisers, volunteers, council workers, volunteers ( especially the volunteers!) and everyone who went out of their way to make it a great success.

    Thank you, sincerely

Can you elaborate on that by any chance?

I can't imagine how you'd accidentally burn a giant statue to the ground by mistake.

Heard two different reports one was it was arson the other it was an accident.
The statue was made of foam which by the looks of it was highly flammable.
I am in no way condoning what happened, the statues came from the Fleadh in Ennis and its a shame they were destroyed or damaged and not moved onto Mullingar or sent to a childrens hospital or something.

The Fleadh was terrific, that said, certain members of the Fleadh TV crew were obnoxious little $hits, witnessed a few instances were they absolutely horrible to people in Bru.
