Who the hell could do such a thing?

Two scummers intimidated an elderly lady into handing over €250,000 after carrying out poor-quality work in her home and garden. She can no longer live independently. They already have several convictions to date.

onal McCarthy, barrister for Thomas Coen, said his client wanted to apologise to the woman and he had brought €1,500 compensation into court. He suggested his client was willing to repay €500 a week to the woman if given the opportunity.

    Two questions:

What happpeed to the €250,000 that they stole?

Who would stoop so low as to do that to an elderly and vulnerable person?

We need to toughen up on law and sentencing, the scumbags who did this should be on 23 1/2 hour lockdowns with no contact visits until every penny is paid off. Although, using that method, their families would probably commit more thefts to pay off the debt.

Thomas Coen (46) and Michael Coen (38), of Corrib Park, Newcastle, Galway, pleaded guilty to a combined 61 counts of theft from the woman (76) between June 2014 and November 2015.

Sentencing for crimes against the vulnerable should be doubled. Let it be for kids or senior citizens.

I'd go one step further. 23 1/2 hours in solitary confinement per day with no contact visits with subsistent diets of bread and water, plus slopping out.
No release until money is paid back in full.

Worst part about it is she no longer wants to live in her own house and is currently waiting for a place in a care home. Truly vile stuff.

For the other half hour they should get to enjoy human contact with a boxer in training who gets to use them as a punch bag.

If I had my way the justice system would operate as follows.

First (minor) offence, a warning with a suspended sentence. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Second offence you will serve the applicable sentence in FULL.

Third offence you have two options: You can choose life with no parole OR 10 years minimum with sterilisation (both options will result in the vermin no reproducing any more).

"Mr Rhattigan further explained that the defendant, the sole provider for his family, has had trouble in the past but that there has been nothing in the last six years, and that he just wants to do “an honest day’s work”. "

    What a piece of sh*t

They had previous, or at least one of them.

They are the lowest of the low. The sentence is not near enough.

There needs to be a cull.

How do you get away with so many previous convictions?

Are they availing of free legal aid?

Coen is certainly in the traveller surname stable. Not as common as ward or joyce or some of the others though.

The house next door to Tom Coen is for sale for €250,000. If he owns his own house ( looks like a council estate, but most houses bought out) then CAB should seize it and repay the money.

How did it manage to spend all of the money within days after it robbed the lady?

Why can't we lock it up and leave it in prison until it repays what it stole?
