Have about 600 quid to play with(thanks coin jar). Looking to upgrade cpu, motherboard and RAM. My Current specs are:

    Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3 @3.40GHz
    16GB GDDR3 Ram
    MSI Z97 PC Mate
    Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce
    beQuiet! 600W PSU

Any ideas what I should be looking at? Currently have a 1080p 144hz monitor plugged in but might upgrade to 1440p monitor in the future.

Somesort of B450 board or a cheap X570 like the Asus Prime
    Ryzen 3600
    16GB 3200 CL16 DDR4

I'd upgrade GPU first (e.g. RTX 2070 Super).

Your budget isn't big enough to bring broad improvements to 144hz, so as above, the priority could be a GPU upgrade.

Your CPU is still OK, and works well with your current GPU.

To maximise 144hz monitor, you'd need both a new CPU and GPU, though the former requires a new board, CPU, and ram.

There is no easy answer. If you want maximum frames? Get a Ryzen 3600, B450M, 16GB DDR4, and tailor settings on the 1080 accordingly....it's still a very decent card.

Just an upgrade to an RTX2070 Super will give some benefits, but at 144hz, the CPU will still be limiting.

If you want maximum image quality settings? RTX2070 Super no doubt.

If you want maximum framerates? Ryzen 3600/board/16GB 3200mhz and stick with 1080, just adjust settings to suit.
