Has to be Necro (anon) no? Or maybe sKeith :D

I reckon it was Zaph. I think he'd be the type of guy who loves Ed Sheeran :P

Right onto the top 5. These were really hard to separate out. They shifted around as I listened to them.

In fifth place was a song I liked instantly. If I was going based just on first impressions it would have taken top spot but the more I listened to the songs submitted the more others edged it out slightly. It's a great tune and one that has me looking at some of the artists' other work.

    Artist: The Pharcyde
    Song: Passin' Me By

    5th place goes to
    Osh

God this is a really good category. Props to all the entries, they’re fantastic, don’t know if I could have separated some of them ecto fair play to ya

It's been agonising. I reckon on a different week there could be a totally different order.

The next song is the total opposite of the one in 5th place. On first listen I really didn't like it. It went on too long, it felt more like 3 different songs smushed into one. I didn't know the song or the artist. I was fairly sure it was going to finish near the bottom.

So naturally I've been wandering around singing bits of it for the last couple of days. A surprising (to me) 4th place finish

    Artist: Al Stewart
    Song: Nostradamus

    Scooping up 16 points is
    sKeith

His most famous track, The Year of the Cat, also tells a good story - he is a storyteller. Great choice!

Top 3 Now. Hype! Excitement! Fireworks!

    Ok, maybe no fireworks.

Green & Red, Electric Nitwit and Pretzill
all scored highly for different reasons. Which I shall explain as best I can. :)

There's been some cracking songs so far but I have to say I hated the last 2.

Love the little three way love-in in the thanks there!

Third place goes to an absolute belter of a tune. Honestly, top 3 were so difficult to separate out. I love the artist on this one but I only listen to a select few songs and this isn't (wasn't) one of them. I love the intro, I love how concise it is - this was probably one of the shortest tracks submitted for this category. It tells a story perfectly and does it in a short sharp and witty way.

Artist: Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
Song: The Ballad of Robert Moore and Betty Coltrane

    3rd Place goes to
    ElectricNitwit
in a tight fight at the top of the table, scoring 17 points.

    I'll take that :)

It's actually a b-side (to Where The Wild Roses Grow) so no surprise it's not on your rotation

It's a little personal for me, it was on a free cassette from NME. When I was young that's how I discovered music and this was the first time I heard The Bad Seeds, I loved it and it opened a whole new, wonderful world to me!

(...actually, that's what I wrote to Ecto, I since found it and it's a free CD from Vox, but the point still stands!)

Long time since I heard that song, great pick EN

In the tightest of races for the top spot comes an artist whose early work I loved. This song comes from an album that I never actually listened to which is why I don't know it. It reminds me of why I liked Josh Ritter so much to begin with. It's a great narrative song and I loved it.

    Artist: Josh Ritter
    Song: The Curse

Picking up 18 points and a very respectable second place is
    Green&Red

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,426 ✭✭✭✭Green&Red

    Happy with that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,241 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Didn't know The Curse, very good :)
Very quirky, the video is brilliant!

Which brings us to our winner in this category. The first time I heard it I liked it but didn't see it finishing top. The only other song I know by Dan Fogelberg is Same Auld Lang Syne and I thought that this might be a little too sentimental for my tastes. All I can say is, it's an absolute ear worm. I love his voice. It reminds me of the Eagles (I've since found out he hung out/worked with them). I just felt it fitted the category perfectly. It's a little darker than I expected. I loved it.

    Congratulations to
    Pretzill
on your first place finish this evening.

Delighted you liked this Ecto, one of my favourite artists, who went too soon and had more to share musically. This and forefathers two of his best storytelling tracks! Whoop! 1st placed track!
