Really bad WiFi signal upstairs

Hi I'm with pure telecom and the WiFi signal upstairs is really bad, Im guessing that the modem they supply is not a very good one. The house is an old one with big brick walls. How do I know what kind of modem I Need if I want to buy a new one? We definitely don't have fiber. Can anyone recommend a modem that will give me good signal with out braking the bank? I'm clueless about this stuff

Repeaters are a terrible idea. A repeater halves the speed (because it shares a frequency with your existing wifi)

If you cannot run a cable you could get away with using something like this that uses your electrical power cables.

Or look into mesh system like Google wifi, Orbi or Eero that have dedicated frequency for backhaul
