Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Clean sheet.

Good game, very enjoyable. Jones and Elliot the stand outs. Kelliher did well too.

    I enjoyed that

Both for Lovren and Gomez, I don't think you can take much from one game.

It's all about the system for CBs. I'm confident in whoever of the three of them partners VVD, so long as they get a run of games.

Gomez had 2 mistakes in the same passage of play. He’s been very comfortable other than that all night. I think anyone saying that he’s well behind Matip were probably saying the opposite this time last season.

Good game. I had a fun night, despite being the victim of some targeted harassment. Lots of positives, look forward to watching these lads again.

We need to be careful with Elliott we have potentially a serious talent here. Should of scored 2 but his movement, touch and general skill is well ahead of his years.

Clean sheet deserved for Kelleher, well played. Elliot unlucky to score and looks very good, Hoever also looks well capable. A bit disappointed with Jones & Brewster but more to come hopefully

Curtis Jones looks VERY nervous on TV. Didn't think he would be the type, he looks very arrogant on looks!

Had a good game to be fair to him, much better than his start against Wolves 9 months ago.

I wonder does he just have a slight stutter.

16 years old coming on to bang in an equaliser at Old Trafford. That kid is living out a dream.

Young lads did great tonight. Elliott in particular to me I'd rather see him than Lallana on the bench.
Disappointed that Milner showed more experience than Gomez, Lallana & Oxlade Chamberlain combined; the latter 3 played as if they were above trying hard as the game drifted on & it was annoying to watch tbh. Keita did his stuff & kept the ball moving.

I was surprised myself and thankfully Milner was there along side him to big him up, another reason why Milner should be kept on for as long as possible.

Elliot has his socks pulled up over his knees.

Brewster the same. Must be a yuff thing.

    Overall a satisfactory night.

Impressive youngsters, returning senior players get a run out, win, clean sheet and no injuries.

Seems to be real talent coming through. Especially Elliot.

I'd say just nerves, not everyone can talk in front of a camera:)

I never liked giving a power point demo and that was only in front of a group of lads.

    Eliott looks a serious prospect.

Academy lost to away Fleetwood on penalties. Unlucky considering so many of tonight's squad would have been eligible.

Could have been easier tbh. Surprised Man City didnt get Oxford at home

    Everton v Watford
    Aston Villa v Wolves
    Manchester City v Southampton
    Burton v Leicester
    Crawley Town v Colchester
    Chelsea v Man Utd
    Oxford v Sunderland
    Liverpool v Arsenal

Two big teams getting knocked out in the next round.

Sun 20th Oct Man Utd (a)
    Wed 23th Oct Genk (a)
    Sunday 27th Spurs (h)
    midweek Arsenal home league cup
    Saturday 2nd Nov Villa (a)
    Tuesday 5th Nov Genk (h)
    Sunday 10th Nov City (h)

A big run of fixtures. Would expect a fairly fringe & youth team to feature in the league cup again. Maybe not as much as tonight, but still a big portion.

    I would've liked a handier one tbh.

That's annoying, while Emery has been happy to play the kids he may change tack so will Klopp?

Milner has now scored a goal in every season since 1919.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,739 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Presume Sheffield utd fielded a second string team as well tonight

Emery will hopefully just accept defeat now and we can play the young lads again.

Ah no, they’ll give us a proper game and could absolutely knock us out if they take it seriously. Can see us playing at least one of the front three, I’d love to see Brewster start alongside two of them though. It’d be a great litmus test for him. Virgil will surely play as well, assuming he’s fit.

It isn’t the hardest trophy to win, so I’d like to see a few strong players involved, but at the same time it isn’t a priority and going out before the semi-finals wouldn’t hugely disappoint me. As long we don’t lose in the two-legged semis or the final, that’d be a right kick in the teeth.

Dilemma for Klopp in that tie.

Not sure what he should do myself, lads did well tonight and maybe deserve their chance.

Maybe he'll play one or two more senior players on the tie.

Yeah, think that's the way to go alright, a slightly stronger starting 11, and a few of the big guns on the bench, since it's at home anyway so no travel needed.

Man U the game before in the league and Spurs the game after.

    Wrong date

It's after the Spurs game and before the Villa game.

Milner really took charge today, involved in everything.

    Goals:

So happy with Elliot tonight, his performance deserved a goal, and he couldn't have come closer (TWICE):

    Jones looked sharp too:

Kelleher's save was great, looked really comfortable on the ball all night too and had that sweeper moment in the first half when he read a run and came out 40 yards to clear the ball. His only issue tonight was dealing with crosses under pressure, flapped at a couple of loose balls but that seems to be a problem for all young keepers making the step up.

Overall, really happy with the performance, a far cry from the past few seasons' youth efforts. Unfortunate that we've Arsenal next, not sure we'll see as many of the young lads.

    Gomez matip lovren Milner
    Hendo
    Ox winji
    Shaq ox Elliot
I’d be happy with that team against Arsenal

Play the kids again, add in Origi and Shaqiri as Jurgs said himself but granted he hadn't seen the draw then.

This competition isn't even on my list of priorities this season never mind down the bottom of it, it's best use is giving the best 11 a break and their understudies some game time.
