Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ha ha, was at that game! league cup semi final. Got beaten in the first leg 2-1, Clinton Morrison did a shed-load of trash talking after. We won the second leg 5-0 and the kop gave ol clint a nice few songs in return.

He took a fresh-air shot in front of the Kop too, and they gave him hell :pac:

First and only time seeing Litmanen in the flesh, he was seeing things on the pitch I couldn't see from the Stand. Pity we never got him sooner, could have been a Bergkamp-esque player for us.

Crazy to think that of the free signings we picked up that season Gary McAllister ended up being the far greater of the two for us.

New balance failed to meet the demand and doesn't have the same distribution as Nike. Fair enough, I presume they are doing their best to address those issues,it was more of a loss to them than anyone else. If liverpool are to get the same fee from them isn't it the same ?Do liverpool get a different fee based on the amount of sales ? Just wondering why it has to go to court, it's a pity they couldn't sort it out inhouse. On the plus side I suppose it's more publicity for the sponsors.

Nice piece here (I mean, it's all praise so of course I'd like it...) about how we should guard against normalising the consistency we're showing.

    https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool-results-form-record-jurgen-klopp-heavyweights-637605
They weren't even also-rans - but now Liverpool truly are modern day heavyweights.

Jurgen Klopp has turned weaknesses into strengths and taken his side on a remarkable run which we should guard heavily against normalising

It's a free read so click away...

I guess less distribution means less jerseys in shop windows and less people wearing Liverpool jerseys on the streets all around the world. Hurts the global brand.

I'd say Nike have more control over players too. Look at the Couthino move to Barca it was announced by Nike as they wanted a Brazilian in the Barca team to replace Neymar.

Any "Suarez back" talk is just because he's not good enough for Barca anymore. I wouldn't have him after kicking and injuring Robertson in the semi-final anyway.

I shouldn't have downloaded that Athletic app.....the constant alerts broke me down and subscribed first year half price. :pac:

Good article about John Barnes and racism. Never really thought about him being a rent a mouth but I can see why younger black players would be annoyed by him.

Taking Suarez back would be the sign of a weak and desperate club. Liverpool will never do this.

When it comes to these photos, I just can’t get enough (as the Kop would sing about club legend Luis Suarez)...

Talk that the new Nike deal would only be a guaranteed £30m a year.....that's very low. There would be more adder on as bonuses linked to distribution. Liverpool would also receive 20% of the money through sales. Which seems like a first to me.

Especially when the talk was around £70m earlier in the week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Just looking at the run of games we have up to the City game and the run of games they have.

They really do have a easy run compared to us.

£30m a year and 20% of the sales revenue on top of that? That 20% could be huge if so, selling 1m shirts could net you an extra £14m and I'm sure there's more than that many shirts sold every year.

Just focus on your own team. City will have their turn to have it rough. We started ours with Chelsea and came through it. It's wild that we're still on maximum points.

No the team should stay as is but having Suarez as back up would be great. Then there'd be zero pressure on Brewster to get goals if there was an injury to any of the front three and he could use the game time to develop.

Tbf we might not have won without that.

When the Liverpool FC TV channel was free, I recorded their highlights of that game on the Sky box. In normal time the first half an hour approx was insane, in highlight mode it was pure porn.

Then when the channel wasn't free anymore, the recording went off my Sky box. Was distraught for a few weeks after that!! The beginning of that game still gives me goosebumps.

Similar to the Germany Brazil semi-final in 2014 - a bloodbath. Although the WC game was more car-crash TV, I suppose.

Sold Suarez and Coutinho for over 200 million. Would take them back on a free no problem but they would probably be bench players.

Klopp is all about loyalty though. Rightly so. He would never let either of them wear a Liverpool jersey ever again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

You'd take Luis Suarez... on a free... and stick him on the bench. A'ight.

Klopp is all about loyalty though. Rightly so. He would never let either of them wear a Liverpool jersey ever again.

I'm sure Klopp considered taking back Coutinho on loan during the summer. James Pearce did an article on it, stating the reasons it didn't go through were:

    1. finances, his wages are now outside the club's pay structure
    2. wouldn't get the game time as he is no longer starting XI quality for us
    3. Klopp and his staff feared they'd spend the season repairing his confidence issues and then Barca would reap the rewards (either through selling elsewhere or bringing him back into first team)

So Coutinho's career is kinda in disarray right now. His contract at Barca runs til 2023 and already they can't wait to get rid of him. Supposedly Bayern Munich have an option to buy in this loan deal, but I really can't see them springing €120 million for him when he was never worth that much. Barca won't want to be seen taking a substantial haircut on him either, so his future is very uncertain.

I know folks on here get a bit of schadenfreude out of the whole thing, but I'd like to see him return someday. When he was good for us he was exceptional. I can't help myself in wanting a redemption arc, I just don't see how it could ever happen though as he isn't worth what Barca want.

    Class alright, lovely finish too.

Ah good man that's it, pure class that was, I remember being in awe watching it, I don't thing I'd seen an assist like it before or since

Who should he start ahead of?

And he wanted to leave Liverpool. So he's not worth paying anything to take him back. Will be 33 by the next transfer window as well.

The club could be thrown out of the league cup for fielding an ineligible player against MK Dons.

The Carabao Cup is what I'm reading.

    Edit ah yea nevermind.

The club could be thrown out of the league cup for fielding an ineligible player against MK Dons.

Precedent (and the fact that they won't want to lose one of the biggest TV draws) would indicate it'll just be a fine if found guilty..

<edit> Guessing it's Herbie Kane. He's the only one that played that isn't explicitly listed as being an LFC player on here; https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/10/Liverpool/squad
I know home grown youth players are meant to be allowed even if unlisted, but perhaps some extra bit of paperwork is needed that wasn't done.

    Liverpool and paperwork eh?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

If it was any other big club the admin would be sacked for such a mistake.

Because it's us we'll just send Aldridge in to give them a bollicking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,561 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Scandalous for teams to not be kicked out of knockout competitions for fielding ineligible players. If it was a league game it’d be 3-0 to the other team.

And yet apparently there’s a precedent that it will just be a fine.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Apparently Klopp tipped them off. ;)

Chirivella it is, something to do with his botched loan deal last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 781 ✭✭✭davyboy1975

Its chirivella, it relates to his loan in jan to extremadura.
Club believe paperwork was done correctly

Sunderland were only fined for doing the same in 2014 (I'm sure we've all read the same piece on the Athletic, though!) but, tbh, it probably should be a more serious punishment than that.

I don't think too many of us will be bothered if we were kicked out of the League Cup anyway tbh!
