Does the Origi up top/Firmino dropping into the 'eight and a half' role give a hint as to the future of the Liverpool attack? Bobby is 28 today and it's become a feature of this season how well he looks after the ball setting up typically Salah to get in on goal? Might we see a move for another forward (and maybe selling one) but making sure to keep Firmino for years to come.

Lallana and Milner are surely going next summer, might someone join them on the exit list.

    Fabby
    ---(OxKeithGini)
    Firmino
    Mane-Salah-Origi (or new)

or maybe a go for a full blown diamond

    Fabby
    ---OxCham--Keita
    Bobby
    ---Salah---Mane

I think this is the team Klopp sees with Gini swapping in and out with Ox and Keita swapping between a 3 3 and a diamond.

    Goals:

There's no two ways about it this is amateur stuff from Gomez:

    giphy.gif

Trent done Gomez no favours, Gomez points twice to Trent to cover him, Trent wipes his brow, takes eye off the play, and just wanders out like he's on a Sunday stroll, before Trent saw what was happening it was too late.

Hope the scouting department keep an eye on Hwang & Minamino.

Good Asian players for Asian money is all that missing now there is an Irish lad in the squad.

Keita looked decent when he came on hopefully he gets up to full match fitness soon he offers that something different Gini and Henderson don't in attack.

Hard to gauge when he was on the pitch for all of 5 minutes or so but he at least looked interested.

Salah is some bloke.....he scored two goals yet it still feels measly based on how much he's all over the ball in the final 3rd. A lot of stuff didn't come off for him; a terrifying thought for most opposition you would think.

I see that, but it's his man - the only other player in the box is further outside of Trent, so he should be watching him. Gomez just needed to drop back 2 yards and he cuts out any cross.

He was also to blame for the first goal, running out of the line and leaving room for Hwong to step into. And for the 3rd goal, coming miles out of the area to give away a stupid foul and they take the quick free. You could basically put all three goals against him.

Rather than a post mortem after the match about how we blew a 3 nil lead I'm just gonna say fair fcks to Salzburg, admirable performance from them, the absolute temerity of them to not lie down when we were pummeling them in the first half, they completely shocked me how good they are going forward and would not be surprised if they beat us in the return match, will obv expect them to cause Napoli serious bother too, the group is not as much of a gimme as I thought it would be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,417 ✭✭✭.G.

I think Alisson coming back will improve things, he's not just all about the saves. In 17-18 when we got Virg we still leaked goals although not as many as before, same this season so far. The difference last season was we had him and Alisson at the back. Both of them organise that defence. Hope he's ready to go for the United game.

People are still thanking that false Klopp quote. Sometimes I can get quite embarrassed by my fellow Liverpool fans.
He doesn't care about the truth. As long as the thanks roll in :pac:
Migs did well enough. Shocking how bitter some of you are towards him. He is a good keeper and a good person. Hope they can go far this CL.

This sort of divisive posting is unnecessary, affecting the thread and it is increasing in your posts of late. Stop now or you risk being carded or banned from the thread and/or forum.

It is also a general note for the thread. Enough with the questions or memes of who someone supports, please. It is not up for discussion on thread.

Hi folks, looking for a bit of help or to be steered in the right direction here.

My 2 cousins are heading over next month for the Brighton game, I’m looking for info for email address’ or contact info for how I can request for their picture with their recently deceased father (who was booked in to travel with them for the game) outside the Shankley Gates.

Would mean a lot to them.

Has anyone had previous experience of getting their pictures in a programme? Thanks.

No end to Mo Salah's influence!

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/oct/03/mohamed-salah-inspired-me-become-muslim-liverpool-islam
How Mohamed Salah inspired me to become a Muslim

I have gone from hating Islam to becoming a Muslim – and the Liverpool forward is the principal reason for that

When I was in sixth form it was a period where I think I needed someone to blame for my misfortunes. Unfortunately Muslims got the brunt of it and I quickly discovered right-wing media pages. They sort of groomed me by sending me long propaganda pieces and suchlike.

Even though I had these horrible ideas of Islam, I would never say them to a Muslim. At this point I didn’t know any Muslims. My degree in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Leeds changed everything.

We had to do a dissertation and I wanted to do something a bit different. I remember my dyslexia tutor telling me: “What about Mohamed Salah’s song?” I was aware of it and I thought it was fantastic but I hadn’t considered it in those terms.

Mohamed Salah was the first Muslim I could relate to. It’s the way he lives his life, how he talks to people. The other week he posed for a picture with a Liverpool fan who suffered a broken nose chasing after him. I know some other footballers would do that but you expect it now from Salah.
At university I interviewed Egyptian students and when they found out my research was about “Mohamed Salah, a gift from Allah” – which is also another Liverpool song – they would talk to me for hours about how great he is and what he’s done for their country. One million Egyptians spoiled their ballots and voted for him to be president last year.

One of the Egyptians I talked to told me that Salah encompasses what being a Muslim is, following Islam correctly. He believed that Salah is making people love Muslims again.

If Salah can break his own record of 32 PL goals in a season I'll gladly convert to Islam too.

The like of Salah and Khabib Nurmagomedov have done so much as positive Muslim role models in promoting the religion of Islam. It's great to see.

Trent done Gomez no favours, Gomez points twice to Trent to cover him, Trent wipes his brow, takes eye off the play, and just wanders out like he's on a Sunday stroll, before Trent saw what was happening it was too late.
That was lazy and shambolic from Gomez - the player was his to pick up, he didn't follow the ball and instead wandered forward almost level with Fabinho. As the outside fullback TAA was defending against the potential far post run of the wide player, he couldn't do that and also defend the six yard box because Gomez fancied going for a wander from his position.

When they review the game, I hope the coaching staff ask him what his thought process was in that moment because his mind certainly wasn't on the game.

I'm beginning to think that in some ways not bringing in a new central defender has allowed a bit of complacency to creep into Gomez's game. Lovren is clearly done as a viable option so it's Matip or Gomez to partner Van Dijk. Gomez started the season as the player with the position but he didn't look comfortable in the Charity Shield. He looked like he needed more minutes to get match sharp and he got them against Norwich and also at right back in the Super Cup. He returned to the team and looked good in the League Cup, but that may have been because of the level of the opposition, or the fact that relative to Lovren all of the other defenders look good. I don't think there is enough pressure on his place in the squad to get him to focus on what is needed from him.

The whole play had everyone out of position, Trent was asked twice to help out, and he ignored Gomez, took eyes off of play, and wandered towards edge of box. You would think the far post would be Trent's to defend , just because it's not your man doesn't mean you wander off and leave all the space. Trent thought danger had passed, he switched off, no big deal, but he knows he didn't help the situation.
Number one rule for any defender, you defend the ball first.

Which Gomez himself didn't do. His reaction at each moment during that sequence was just a split second too slow. He knew the forward was there yet didn't throw his leg or body at the ball as it went across the box. He semed to put more effort into gesticulating with his arm afterwards than actually doing the job he was supposed to do.

When a player isn't playing every week, it's human nature to take it easier on yourself. Training is not the same as playing, so I wasn't surprised to see his concentration levels were down.

Not sure what "pressure on his place within the squad" means... If you reckon we need a better 4th option centre half than Lovren to keep pressure on Gomez to maintain a high level of fitness while standing in the wings as 3rd choice centre-half, then you might be over-thinking the squad situation.

When Matip isn't available he gets in by default - Lovren is not a challenge to his position in the squad.

Last week he was talking the talk in an interview, he failed to deliver when the opportunity was presented to him. If there was a better third choice option available then Gomez would be challenged to improve.

Any man that tells women interested in taking up the sport he is involved in to "stay in the home and be a good wife" is a scumbag as well. Top man? Nah, some people have higher standards than that. Mane and Salah are top men. Especially Salah for making numerous posts on instagram praising his wife and telling his fellow Egyptians that women need to be treated better in the country. Khabib does the exact opposite.

Listening to Neil Jones and he mentions an interview he did with Pep before Munich last season.

One comment that didnt make the transcript was the perfect goal that Liverpool have been trying in training would be FB passing to the other FB to score.

You could see the delight on Robertsons celebration that it was someting they had been trying in training.

Also looking back on last night Red bull decided to play 424 and have a mad game of football. They have score 58 goals in 13 games all comps which is absolutely bonkers no matter how inferior the Austrian league is :)

He's been seen with Salah too under disturbing circumstances. When Egypt were based in Chechnya at the World Cup & Salah didn't show up to training he went to the hotel to wake him up & escorted him to the stadium as to be seen with him. Gave him a birthday cake, a banquet & honorary citizenship of Chechnya. I doubt for one second he supported him or felt remotely comfortable about that tbh.

Had my first trip to Anfield in a decade for last night's game. Cracking game, my nerves were shot in the second half. Salzburg look like a really good side. They'll cause Napoli problems - we need to get max points from Genk if we can to put us in control of our own destiny in the group.

Robertson put in a really good shift and I was impressed by Fabinho and Mane too. Firmino never stops moving and Henderson was good in the first half and AWOL after. Origi good too. The bad has been well covered on here so won't redo it.

A word on the stadium too - they've done quite the job on it. Loads going on outside, the refit in the main stand is a really good job. Did the tour today too and its very well done. Its like a totally different place out there from what it was the last time I went.

Hopefully I can get back before the end of the season again. Or at least not wait another ten years.

Sounds like he just swapped one ideology for another....for the better in this case but I wouldn't see that as a healthy thing as general.
