He's been seen with Salah too under disturbing circumstances. When Egypt were based in Chechnya at the World Cup & Salah didn't show up to training he went to the hotel to wake him up & escorted him to the stadium as to be seen with him. Gave him a birthday cake, a banquet & honorary citizenship of Chechnya. I doubt for one second he supported him or felt remotely comfortable about that tbh.

Start of the whole Salah and Egypt FA row

Dont they have a bit of a nack of letting their manager go after we beat them?

He's the greatest gift an opposition fan can hope for. He makes Hodgson look like a genius. Poor lad looks like he has really aged too.

I was just about to post the same thing.

Always nice to see a Utd Legend or 2 in the weeds.....

Anything is possible in that match.

I think the same thing happened to Moyes when he took that job :pac:

Football managers age rapidly as they tend to be going into middle age by the time they are in charge of a high profile team and so in the public gaze where we say "he's really aged since he took this job"!

Salah is not being called up by Egypt for whatever friendly they have coming up in the next international break but he'll be back in their squad for their 2 African cup of Nations qualifier games the next international break in November

Who would the Everton fans support I wonder?

Yep, as soon as that third goal went in Wednesday I wasn't worried and the players weren't either. They woke up and RBS didn't get another sniff on goal from then.

I'm a bit worried about tomorrow's fixture. Somehow we've won our last 3 fixtures when arguably, a draw in all 3 would not have been against the run of play. It feels like our luck might run out.

Rodgers is going to be looking to prove a point and he has Leicester playing some lovely football.

Usually i hate the international break, but for some reason, it feels like it might be coming at a good time for us.

The importance of winning all 3 points before going on a 2-week break cannot be over-stated, even at this early stage in the season.

BTW, major fcujing lols at the pining for Jose in the man u thread :D

It's like you think things just can't get any worse and then they do.

I dislike Jose more than Utd to be honest. It was a match made in heaven for me, I didn't want it to end.

A draw there would not be the end of the world, it's nothing to worry about anyway. I think we will be more circumspect in our shape and will control possession for periods tomorrow. Vardy is there threat to our high line, but if we have the energy to close down their midfield he won't be getting any ball.

    Is Matip back?

Given the Gomez performance the other night, I could see Vardy making hay peeling into that channel between him and Trent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,089 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Ya I think tomorrow's game will be one that Leicester, Rodgers and the likes of Vardy will relish. They will have the full week to prepare, Vardy up against a high line and space to run in behind TAA & Gomez/Matip.

If they score first or the longer it stays 0-0, it will suit them. If we get the first goal, then the game is ours I reckon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,787 ✭✭✭✭Charlie19

50% chance of Matip playing against Leicester according to the physio room.

I think Matip is back but either way I do agree that it's more about cutting off the supply to Vardy than trying to deal with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,089 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Matip won't have an international game, so they might just patch him up or feed him with painkillers for the 2 hours and give him the 10 days off to recover then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Despite the horror show against Salzburg, I still think Gomez is the right man to deal with Vardy and Leicester in general. He hasn't lost his pace, and that matters more against the way they play than most other teams. Joe had a terrible game for the most part, but he looks to be fully fit now so I'd still have him over a Matip that surely won't be 100%.

I really don't fancy our high line up against Vardy if one player is even carrying the slightest of injuries.

You might be right about Gomez but they key will be concentration, not pace, I think. If we nail our offside game tomorrow, we can nullify a lot of what Leicester do in attack. If we don't get it right, they could have quite a few chances with our high line.

Chasing back is all well and good but not having to tear down a striker through on goal is even better!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Oddly I prefer to see Milner in the middle for this, he and Fabby would be best at getting a foot in the midfield to stop the balls for Vardy to get free with - Maddison if he is fit will clearly be the primary through-ball provider

Oh absolutely, that's crucial but I assumed it as a given in any match so didn't bother mentioning it. Matip is certainly better in that aspect and many others, but the pace of Gomez is a much better help to us in this game if Vardy does beat the offside trap. Not to say Matip is slow, but it isn't a strength of his.

I'm just more concerned about the possibility of playing a centre back who isn't fully fit up against one of the quickest and smartest strikers in the league. By the sounds of it, he'd be playing through pain if he appears at all.

    Yeah - that's fair!

I just think Gomez's concentration was an issue against Salzburg so I'm hoping he's either learned his lesson there or that Matip is able to step back in.

And, hopefully, the front 3 are on better form than they were against Sheffield Utd and take their chances.

I'm more worried about Leicester than anyone else we've played yet this season!!
