Fcuk it, I can live with what ever the outcome is now, that was a great performance second half, we were the better team, City fortunate not to lose in 90min and they'll know it. YNWA

Clear as day these two teams are still far ahead of the rest.

Glenn Hoddle has only been watching one team all afternoon.

    He's been tedious.

Really hope it carries over to Friday night.

If we play like that on Friday we'll get two or three against Norwich.

I'm feeling very good about this season all of a sudden.

If there's any question we were going to have a hangover or take things for granted you'd hope that has been dismissed.

Granted, it's a bit less glamorous to be playing against Norwich next weekend, but it's a Friday night game and it's at Anfield, so hopefully we can put a marker down and get our momentum up from the word go.

Not to be ‘that’ guy. But what has that got to do with anything?

Think they all post in the Manchester City United FC superthread since the end of last season.

Hope our penalties at least beat that pesky goal line

Great game of football whatever the result.

Two really good pens to start.

    Woeful pen Gini.

    Odd comment

    Decent pens so far

Allison diving for them all, should stand for them all

    Hoddle talks some sh1te.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,424 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

That’s a shame. Should have wrapped it up in normal time when we had chance after chance after chance.

    Anyway onto Norwich.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,398 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Allison should’ve stopped that one...Bravo-esque from him.

    Good peno Salah.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,574 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Disappointed with Allison, looks crap at penalties

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,520 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Really wanted to win the shield, but losing it on penalties means very little to me. Great performance, everyone at the club should be thrilled with how today went.

    No Mourinho treble.

Wonder will FSG be on the phone to Conte? Poor by Klopp there ;)

    Hoddle talks some sh1te.
Checkout what I said about him a few posts back. You might be surprised at just how much sh1te he has talked.

Good performance, way better than anything we saw in full pre-season, which despite all the doom was obviously going to be the case once players started getting back into competitive football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,012 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

    Never rated Ali anyway.

    Get Mignolet back in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,428 ✭✭✭facehugger99

    Nothing to be down about.

We looked great in the second half.

I think these two teams will be streets ahead of the rest.

Couldn’t give a fcuk, we are very close to City now and the rest of the premiership teams are miles behind.

Shame to lose it on Penalties. Great second half performance. Just need to find the scoring touch!

Shame but we are looking so good for the season.

Why on earth are ourselves and City playing the two earliest games of the season? Us on Friday night, them Saturday at noon. You'd think the league would cop on and put us on Sunday considering they've just given us this match to play.

He's not able to get in the perfect position to make the save look easy for a pen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,225 ✭✭✭marklazarcovic

I'm of the opinion that if you step up to take a pen,and do so with such little conviction as Gini did, then you should be bottom of the list for the next one, appalling pen.

But great performance from the lads ,hopes are high.

Pep looked embarrassed by his players' celebrations.

Of course, Bernardo was the first one to grt to Jesus.

    Cant wait for Friday now.

Some game in fairness. City were amazing in the first half but they really tired in the second.

Bravo just did what Dida did in 2005 - dived to his right for every penalty

Thrilled? Really? I know lots on here and in general think it’s a glorified friendly but we still lost a final to City. Creating a winning habit and picking up trophies regardless of their importance should always be the priority.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,407 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Can't argue with that result. We were very good in the second half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,328 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Always good to get the pen defeats in friendly games

Nothing in it, all city first half, all pool 2nd half.

    Good run out before Friday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,012 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Beat Norwich and then on to the real first trophy of the season against Chelsea.

Bit annoyed they couldn't win it. It does feel like a pretend final. It's not the biggest deal, but it's such a great way to start the season.

    Was a very close match.

On the penalties. Really think a GK should be allowed off his line once the player starts his run. I mean there is a MASSIVE advantage for the penalty taker as it is. Making things a little easier for the GK would be a little fairer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,438 ✭✭✭livinginkorea

Glad that it went to penos and not another 30 minutes (although I think we would have won it going on how well we are playing for that half) so that we got some decent training done without killing ourselves. A long session to go after all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,574 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Could have been 6-1 had we taken our chances, 9 shots on target, 57% possession.

Winner of Shield have only went on to win Premier League 8 times. It could be our year stat wise.

Very happy with the performance, especially the 2nd half. Bodes well for the season.

I'm a bit annoyed as well but still.....I'm amazed that Mó was able to put in the shift he did. Gives me hope that he's going to run amok.

Firmino was sharper than I'd thought he'd be too

We look ready, and the bench looked strong, with Brewster to come. A lot to be happy about.
