Not huge sums but got a small payrise - is it better to add an addtional €50 per month to the mortgage and overpay (already overpaying by €50) or pay the extra as an AVC (20% tax payer).

Depends on a lot of things. How much is your mortgage, what are your savings, how much is in your pension? A balance between the two is generally good.
