Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That'll be a tall order. I've a worrying feeling we'll be back to business as normal this weekend :(

    Details of the circuit:
    First Grand Prix | 1986
    Number of Laps | 70
    Circuit Length | 4.381km
    Race Distance | 306.63 km
    Lap Record | 1:19.071 Michael Schumacher (2004)

    When was the track built?
Work began on the Hungaroring in 1985, and the track was race-ready just nine months later. The Hungarian government had originally considered reviving the old Nepliget park circuit in Budapest in a bid to host Formula 1 in the country, but in the end decided to create a purpose-built facility instead.

When was its first Grand Prix?
The year was 1986. Nelson Piquet won the first F1 race around the Hungaroring, famously slithering his Williams around the outside of Ayrton Senna’s Lotus to take the lead.

    Schedule:
    Friday – 10:00 to 11:30 – Free Practice 1
    Friday – 14:00 to 15:30 – Free Practice 2
    Saturday – 11:00 to 12:00 – Free Practice 3
    Saturday – 14:00 to 15:00 – Qualifying
    Sunday – 14:10 to 16:10 – Race

I too doubt it's going to be the thrill fest that we've been treated to this past few weeks but it might be intriguing rather than exhilarating, which is still fine.
One for a highlights reel I think.
6:30 Saturday for qualifying, 7:00 Sunday for the race.

Supposed to rain for most of the weekend.
Fingers crossed we will have a spiced up race like last week.

Engine blow in F2 earlier. This is looking great for qualifying!

    Big one too:

This is going to be possibly the closest quali of the season.

Williams (well, Russell) look at lot closer to the pack as well, which is nice to see. Hopefully that form moves into qualifying.

Great memories of sitting at the final corner getting pissed on during a thunderstorm for Q1 here last year :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Oof that's a heavy knock on the rear from Leclerc, they have some work to do to get that repaired for Q2. Lucky he's not out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭Cool_CM

Jaysus, good thing LeClerc put in that time early

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

What a lap from Russell, a second faster than Kubica now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

George Russell of all people holds the unofficiall track record (1:15.5) :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭Cool_CM

    Williams in Q2?

    Edit, Hulk just gets it!

    Danny Ric out

Beats both the Racing Points on pure pace. That's a great effort.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Russell knocked out in Q1 again but faster than both Racing Points, Daniel Ricciardo in the Renault and his teammate. Kubica was 1.3 seconds slower!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭Joeface

Driver of the day George Russell

Indeed, probably couldn't do much more in that car. Great try

Another qualifying crash for Leclerc. Starting to become a habit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Looking at the cutoff for Q3 I think Gasly has to go again, they'll have to send him out on softs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,366 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Missed q1 but seems like George Russell had a belter of a qualifying lap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭Cool_CM

    Jaysus, some lap from Max!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,366 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Max on provisional pole with 6 minutes to go in qualifying.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

That was a great fight for pole, what a cracker of a lap from Verstappen. Congrats to him for his first pole!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

    Well that's a popular result.........

    get in there max

Great grid for tomorrow. If Bottas puts up a fight with Hamilton like he did at Silverstone, could play into RB and Ferrari's hands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Well done Max on your first F1 pole, exceptional driving! Hamilton defo not on top form, getting out qualified by Bottas. Should make for a good race tomorrow!

Don't like Verstappen but it is great to see him on pole.

The more variables the better for F1

  • Registered Users Posts: 487 ✭✭BikeRacer

Just watching the highlights, did Lewis forget to enable DRS before the line in Q3 or was there an issue with the car?

Don't like his personality. Can be very petulant. But he's very entertaining on the track. Would love to see him really put it up to the mercs over the long term

Delighted to see something different. And hopefully the race will be something different too. It's better to watch a race (or even qualy) not knowing the likely winner.

Surely Gasly's days in the Red Bull have to be numbered, Kvyat was demoted and was a darn site better in comparison to Gasly, 8 tenths behind in the same machine is terrible, has to be unacceptable to Horner and co?

Issue with the DRS apparently, certainly explains some of the difference, although Merc confirmed it was only in S3 it didn't work.

We might have a repeat of 2017 on our hands tomorrow, remember 2017 when the Mercedes running 3-4 couldn’t go near the Ferrari’s due to overheating when they got close? The car was designed to be out in front, once Verstappen stays ahead into the first corner it should work out.

Aye well in Austria they had to knock off performance due to the heat, so if its hot in Hungary tomorrow they could defo have the same issues.

Ricciardo and Magnussen both aborted their final flying laps in Q1 so that's the only reason Russell finished where he did. P19 & 20 for Williams again tomorrow.
They can't sack Gasly mid season because there is nobody available who would be suitable to replace him. I think he is a good driver who will improve but Verstappen is driving so exceptionally well that anybody who happened to be his teammate at this moment would look inadequate by comparison.

Mercedes-Benz never stay still though, whenever a problem or flaw is found, they have the resources to fix it.
To use a sci-fi reference, they're like The Borg in Star Trek. Expose a weakness and it won't be there next time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,686 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Helmut has said since last week that there'll be no driver changes for the rest of the year for both RB teams. Gasly can rest easy for the remaining races and concentrate on performing.

Well done to George Russel and great lap by Max Verstappen. I did not like him when he came to the sport at first but am glad he is there now as the sport would be much duller without him and Red Bull. Hope they can keep challenging Mercedes for the rest of the season and keep them on there toes. They have had it too easy the last few years Mercedes.

Ricciardo to P20. Renault have given him all new engine parts. Nothing really to loose since its in reality only a 2 place drop.

Yeah, all the fans loving Mick's first F2 win. Nice seeing the orange Verstappen fans saluting the win also!

His personality is probably the reason he can reach this level of performance
