Googled loads on Tryus Cobb and nothing like a phrase hitting me.

Same here , just lots of long winded quotes .

    Closer.

Ty Cobb?? I had to Google him! Is that someone Irish people would know? And how would anyone have guessed that without all the additional clues?

Ty Cobb is well known. Besides, there are some Alan Turing-like code breakers following this thread and I thought I'd offer a small workout.

I'm off this one, not being a code breaker or Alan Turing

But Ty was short for Tyrus not Tyler?

Yes, so why did I use Tyler instead of Tyrus?

    Cos you're mean

Is the 132 significant? Or the fact that it's all written 192 times?

    A whole load of waffle!

Close. Say the same thing differently.

The 132 is significant in a way as it helps make one word in the phrase.

    So 132 = a lot of?

Nope. 132 is the age Ty Cobb would be if he were alive today but I could have chosen a lot of numbers.

No number involved. The catchphrase is five words. Working it out involves a famous person.
    Sheridan81 wrote: »
Good guess but no. The number(s) are important in a way too.
    Sheridan81 wrote: »
    That is a wild guess.:D

It's probably quite hard so another clue: the famous person that helps solve the riddle is long dead.
    Sheridan81 wrote: »
No. This guy was regarded as an asshole by a lot of people. It's a bit hard alright but there were a few easy ones recently and I wasn't 'aving that.
    Sheridan81 wrote: »
The first word in the phrase is 'A'.
    Sheridan81 wrote: »
Another word in the catchphrase is 'Of'.

This famous person I'm talking about---

    died in the sixties.
starred in a silent movie but wasn't a movie star.
was mentioned in a poem by a well-known poet.
had his name used as the title of a song by a famous rock band.
    Sheridan81 wrote: »
Yeah, well done. Once you've figured that out it shouldn't be too hard.

cobblers is correct, but onlt has 4 words.

    a whole load of cobblers

    a poxy load of cobblers

if first word was NOT a 'a' then 'what a load of cobblers' fits.

I just know the phrase a load of old cobblers but I have absolutely zero understanding of how Tyler is 132 written a bunch of times becomes that. Can you please assume I'm very stupid (which I fear I am! :D ) and explain it to me in a very dumbed down way!!!

Actually it's ok. I suppose I get it reading back through skeith. You said he's regarded as an asshole.. so A-hole is a whole... You wrote it looks of times. A whole load. Ty's surname is Cobb... So a whole load of Cobb. You changed Tyrus to Tyler. Ler. Cobbler. Ty Cobb would have been 132 this year. That's old.. so a whole load of old cobblers???

Would that not have been impossible without all the added clues. Like my first thought was what does 132 represent? Acb? ... Then second thought.. oh maybe this Tyler person would have been 132 this year so I started googling dead Tyler's who would be that age and obviously nothing stood out since he wasnt tyler but Tyrus.

Sorry not critisizing just really trying to understand.
