I was wondering if that was Thunder in Douglas or a lorry going by down the road... I guess that answers my question!

Lightning strike close by and now the power is gone. Durrus area.

I note that although the Shannon rainfall radar is still awol, met eireann’s lightning detector has picked up the recent West Cork strikes and seems more accurate than the alternatives.

The lightening we are getting here on the rural coast near Kinsale is lighting up the entire sky, which is full of dark clouds. But we are not hearing any thunder whatsoever, which I assume means that the strikes are relatively far away. We are enjoying nature’s show tonight sitting with the lights out - it’s spectacular.

Scrap that. Just had very big lightning followed by loud thunder.

Massive lightning strike and the loudest thunder I've heard in Cork just there. Very therapeutic listening to the rain while doing some work on the laptop.

Things have really picked up here near Kinsale. We have had several strikes in just the last few minutes, with thunder too. Must be moving inland,
