Self build. Land in husband's name - my rights?

I am a newly wed. My husband and I plan to build a home on land that his father has given to him. My question is, the land is in his name only. Our plans, that we have nearly complete and almost ready to submit for planning permission, are in his name only.

We have been saving jointly into a joint account and will be applying for a mortgage jointly.

My question is god forbid in years to come if we end up splitting up, would I end up homeless? Will I have any rights to the home if the land is in his name alone?

I know this is easier said than done, but my advice would be to sort this out now. I would ask a solicitor for advice. I don't think the planning application is significant, the joint mortgage is the key. But in a worst case future scenario your husband could have a claim on more than 50% of the house value. Just my 2 cents, best to ask a professional. You will need legal advice anyway when you are signing over your life to your mortgage provider, so ask them at that stage how to go about this.
