Didn't know they got together. However, Streisand was a great beauty and anyone who says otherwise is just too basic to see it

Just no, I will stay basic thank you.

There are better photos of her than that.
Can see why people may not find her attractive.
IMO she is attractive though. At first glance her nose is overwhelming, however she is one of those people who the longer you look at her the more attractive she becomes.
Also she had very good skin and hair and nice blue eyes- similar to Jennifer Anniston in that regard, who also doesn’t have the best facial features but is attractive overall.
About hair - most female celebs now have extensions or wear hair pieces to make their hair appear fuller. Good natural thick long hair is not that common

I never got the Marilyn Monroe thing. She was very ordinary looking except for the blonde hair.
She also had plastic surgery - nose and chin.
Would understand if she had a great personality or talent. Her speciality seemed to be acting like a “bimbo”
Not saying she was a bimbo in real life or anything.
Her icon status seems to be based on the fact that she was troubled and died young, which is kind of sad really.
I love the supposed quote of hers to Albert einstein.
"If we had a baby albert , with your brains and my looks it could rule the world.
To which he replied " what if they had my looks and your brains "

It is going back to the 1990s but I just never understood how people at the time described Barbra Streisand, what the hell was Andre Agassi thinking?

People tell one of my friends that she looks like Barbara Streisand. She does not take it as a compliment. I think she’s way prettier than Streisand myself personally. I only recently found about Streisand and Agassi. Mad, Ted.

This. For a product of a small gene pool (she wasn’t Royal-born but was an aristocrat), she was good-looking. Highly irritating though, so simpering. And that was probably put on.

Yeah Streisand had pretty eyes and a truly fantastic voice, brains and a forceful personality, all of which made her attractive, but a "great beauty" she was not.

That 70's flic she starred in with Robert Redford, The Way We Were, the difference between his level of near farcically handsome and her quirky look was a very wide one.

    image.jpg

That was a major part of its appeal as a story for many women(who were the principle audience). His character turns down the classically beautiful women for her "quirkiness" and "personality". A rare gender reversal of the near constant Hollywood trope of the very average looking, even below average looking man ending up with the total babe who turns down the handsome and rich blokes. Hell even in cartoon form that's a thing. Homer Simpson is a bald fat oaf and Marge is well outa his league. :D Though the Way We Were ends up a more complex and crafted story than 90% of the average guy ends up with utter babe flics. For a start it's more realistic and they don't end up together. Good film actually and she's very good in it, he just does "him" as usual. But I digress... :D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Streisand is a great beauty- the problem is, you (and others) have been conditioned to think that a cookie cutter type beauty is better than someone who doesn't fit the mould. Jack Nicholson and many others fell in love with her. I stand by my earlier statement- she is a great beauty and anyone who says otherwise is just too basic to see it

No I disagree, you are trying to use reverse physiology and disparage peoples opinions by suggesting they have less refined tastes and I call bull on that. Streisand has always provoked debate of this type and I am glad I brought her into the conversation as it is the classic example.
I have no idea what a cookie cutter is and could care less, I just find Streisand to be distinctly unattractive and actually as someone mentioned earlier she has a similar look to Jennifer Aniston whom I also find unattractive but never made the connection between the two until mentioned in this tread. Is she a cookie cutter?

I didn't say she couldn't be attractive, it appears she was and while beauty can be a movable feast that shifts over time and fashion, at its most basic it's down to and oddly enough, how regular and "average" and masculine or masculine facial features are. Her nose alone skews that and her eyes while pretty are beady with it.

Personally speaking I tend to prefer more kooky features in women, such as what Streisand had. I find them less bland than many more revered types, so I have no skin in that game. That's what I tend to find attractive, but at the same time I wouldn't describe them as "great beauties".

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

So not fancying Barbara Streisand is an unnatural response brought about by conditioning of basic minds? That's a bit much.

Maybe she just has weird, quirky looks which only appeal (but appeal a lot) to a minority.

Disclaimer: Can't stand her or her awful films.

Trust me, a woman who gets told she looks like her is only going to be thinking about her looks. Personality won’t figure.

Wasn’t a big part of ‘The Way We Were’ how mismatched they were? Redford is so bland to me though personally. I don’t care if I couldn’t pull heyday Redford. I wouldn’t want him!

I can never work out what basic means when used this way. Maybe I’m too... basic?

Anyway, anyone who says otherwise simply holds a differing opinion. What makes you the arbiter? I’m sure men did fall in love with her. People of varying looks have people fall in love with them. Otherwise, many of us would never experience love.

There are lots of good-looking, symmetrical women in Mad Men but my husband’s favourite is Rosemarie DeWitt who plays Midge. She has a prominent nose. He doesn’t care and thinks she’s really sexy. He usually likes the more symmetrical celebs. People are well capable of looking beyond the norm. You just fancy who you fancy and that’s it.

    Apparently it means this
A basic person is an individual who is totally deprived of being extraordinary and sophisticated. Basic people are usually boring, average, and willing to settle for less. They are middling in everything they do and they lack flavor and style in their personality. They like what everyone else likes and hates what everyone else hates.

The lotus flower is one of the most ancient and deepest symbols of our planet. The lotus flower grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty. ... Untouched by the impurity, lotus symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor and good luck.

No, if you don't fancy her it's not an unnatural response (that's subjective) but she's certainly not weird or quirky. Having a bigger than average nose does not make someone weird or quirky

I don’t think people would describe Streisand’s looks as “quirky” if they saw her in the street. However her look was very “unusual” in Hollywood.
Most Hollywood actresses (and actors) have had work done to make their nose more photogenic.
eg Ryan Gosling, Blake Lively, Jennifer Anniston, Patrick Dempsey, Angelina Jolie, Benjamin Bratt.... this list goes on.

There’s no such thing as a Jewish nose. That’s just an outdated stereotype and kind of a slur, to be honest. It’s been researched, the supposed Jewish nose shape is just as common in many different ethnicities.

So anyone who thinks Sarah Jessica Parker is horse faced is horrible and mean, and and anyone who disagrees with your opinion of what counts as beautiful is essentially thick.

    Catch yourself on.
